Sorry to revive an old thread. I planned on wrapping the scoop on mine and wanted to ask how fragile those heat shield/sound dampening clips under the hood were. If they break easily I'll order spares just in case.

 

Great job....Do you still have the template? I would pay you for a copy of it. Plus I have two options. Either fly you to Philly to help me or drive to CA to get help from .you. I think flying you is easier. Please let me know about the template. What lights did you use in the scoop?

sorry a little late ,but just got my tundra and putting on this scoop,so the only thing really holing this on is them little bolts?,and you just grinded down or off those 3 hood standers ,thats what i would call them so the scoop doesnt warp,from heat or anything. what about the 4 plastic white holders? thanks for the help your truck looks great

 

Alright guys. I’m just about done blacking out my 2020 limited. Thanks to Roman, it’s worked out great. The last step (other than suspension) is to install the TRD Pro hood scoop. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but I’m a little confused on the install. I purchased 8 nuts and 4 clips per Roman’s instructions. The front piece came with two T bolts. I’m confused. I’m assuming the 4 clips go in the green locations. The yellow spots look like they need the T studs and nuts. The blue spots look like they do also but are slightly different. Finally, do I just cut off the red tabs? I’ve looked high and low and can’t find this level of detail. I want to make sure I get it right before I start drilling. Thanks for any help!

 

Yes, you need to cut them off.
I also sanded them and added a double sided tape.

Is there a reason why the scoop can't be attached with 3M tape that automotive body shops use to adhere decals and badges?

Second, is there room to mount an Air intake below the scoop? It seems like a good place for forced induction.

Grrr. Why don't they ever build any trucks right.? Sry..that Q was redundant.

 

Possibly due to the amount of drag it incurs, the tape may not hold the air that is hitting the scoop.

For your second, right below it is the the top of the motor, so no not really. Even if you could, the belief that ram air would do something for an EFI modern motor needs to be dispelled. To entertain the idea would require tuning, any increase in intake air velocity or mass would be accounted for by timing adjustments automatically. Hence the need for aftermarket tuning. In the event that you were to someone achieve this, the gains would be small enough that you essentially wouldn't be able to tell. It's never going to accomplish FI power gains, it never has.

The reality of a ram air scoop would be more dirt, debris and water in the intake area, more maintenance. I've had 2 vehicles in my life with ram air hoods, it was just an additional inconvenience. The 2nd of those two was a modern vehicle, a s2000, prior to tuning with and exhaust and intake to accompany that hood it saw I think ~5 or 8hp at peak. Tuning bolstered the mid range, but the end outcome was the same as my friends running stock hoods. I eventually sold the hood because I got tired of cleaning the filter and box out.

Every time I hear a complaint regarding how the scoop isnt functional It wouldn't make a difference if it was.

Hey marine! Are you in CA? Near sac. I could use help with my scoop project. Did you just improvise adapt and overcome to drill the holes. I’m nervous about doing that to a 50k dollar truck. Any tips would be great!

 

I’m about to pull the trigger and order it , but it says I doesn’t fit 2021 , I’m assuming it’s going to fit , because hoods are the same from +14 and up?

I was going to say Sparks parts alot of people are using now since Roman is AWOL.

 

If my buddy’s Toyota doesn’t have it , I’m going Sparks for sure !

 

Anyone ever laid one of these on a 07-13 hood and see if it lines up with the indention? If not, any chance someone could measure the tidth of the scoop at the front and at the rear?

Would love to see one of the scoops sitting on the hood of a early gen 2 to see if there is any possibility of fitting one. #Roman. Cough cough.

 

I have a question here: What do the flange nuts attach to? I've studied all posts on here and watch the 2 YouTube videos of quality installs and can't understand why there are only 2 of the mounting studs but 8 flange nuts. Wouldn't we need 8 flange nuts AND mounting studs to bolt it down after we drill?

This seems like the worlds greatest mystery. Did you ever figure out the part number for those mounting "t style" bolts?
