What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Curious about this. I ran fel-pro on everything, but as I thought about it, that was Chevy as well. Never changed a Toyota seal. But, it's a gasket and steel or aluminum, can OEM be better for Toyota than fel-pro is for Chevy? Hmmm.

Haven't done bearings. All I did was the brush. Super simple. I'll see if I can find pics.

I mean, honestly, I wish I could link a video for you on it, but when I poked around there were so many bullshit videos full of weird tips, tricks and info that I can't really offer up anything. Actually, I take that back. I just looked again. As annoying as this guy was to listen to, he got it most of the way right and was clearly plugging around blindly to make it work. I think if you can suffer through watching the full video, you'll be more than prepared. (see vid at end of this post)

RE: Gapping, I see it was covered - I'd always heard the same, only reason I asked. I also totally trust you know what you're doing.

RE: RCF TB, it showed up in Google's Shopping results when I searched on 22030-38050 actually. The Bosch part was around 130, Hitachi around 190, Aisin was around 230. Sadly, I can't seem to get the same results now? Everything is coming back in the 500-700 range other than those I mentioned. Bizarre.

Nice! I really need to get on my suspension stuff. While I'm happy getting greasy with anything electric or engine, I think I may end up hitting one of the 4x4 shops near Atlanta and have them do everything though, and get them to slap tires on at the same time. I'm not excited about the $3k-4k price tag, but I definitely know that's a beast I eventually need to slay.

Yea I can't even find any RCF, GSF OR LC500 TB for sale on Rockauto. Definitely want to find an affordable one.

I have to go to the starter and alternator shop tomorrow to bring them a tractor alternator and I'll ask them. Lot's of kits for sale and plenty of videos too.

 

I took my ammo cans out. I have to help a cousin move some crap for a wedding Wednesday and help a neighbor move next weekend. I'm thinking of putting nutserts into the bed rather than the bolt through style that I've been using. I'm also thinking while the cans are out I may as well roll some Monstaliner in bed.

 

Are nutserts and rivnuts the same thing? Just asking cause I don't know. I've always has a lid on my bed and never needed a liner - I just have a rubber mat which was a great $40 spent way back.

Ordered me some 'Yota lower ball joint kit, and some Beck Arnley valve cover gaskets. Noticed oil leak on both side when I was crawling around greasing the joints.

 

I've had fel-pro on for about 2 years. Still no leaks.

 

I would. It's cheap insurance and since you're already there may as well.

 

my experience with felpro has been MEH. OEM tube seals and cover gaskets cost a bit more. but they will last another 15 years.

 

What grease did you use for doing this? Ill have to give this a try too. My steering seems fine but probably not bad to keep things greased up

 

Just a standard chassis grease is fine but unless you've swapped out your original parts, you might not have any grease zerks on those particular ones.

 

Birds of a feather, eh? Yeah, it's weird. Mine popped up literally out of nowhere and managed to dump quite a bit out before I noticed it. I noticed the classic smell before I saw any leakage. A couple of months passed and a few more whiffs, I saw small spot on the garage floor, then started poking around.

AT-205 definitely helped to an extent. And I have no doubt it rejuvenated or firmed up some other internal seals, but I think my VC are just old, hard, and cracked at this point.

Right on. Good point on the longevity. I may go that route. I need to toss together a parts kit. I think it's 9 bolts per VC, plus washers, 8 tube seals, L and R VC gaskets, and FIPG 3.0?

@NWPirate one other point to add.

In my notes, I mention how it's worthwhile to pop off the passenger side splash guard just to save pain and suffering and busted knuckles. This pic will explain why - easy access to literally all the alternator connections where you can clearly see and reach them.

I guess the guy who put in my 100A alt couldn't be bothered to reinstall my splash guard, nor re-mount the harness to the alt housing, nor install the correct amp alternator for that matter (at least they used Denso like I asked). I'm glad I went back to a 130A to find this stuff, but sad I paid them $330 (parts+labor) to do the work, in hindsight. But their inability to replace the splash guard shaved about 10 minutes and probably a few cracked fasteners, looking at the positive.

 

Just finished fixing my cracked thermostat housing. It was spraying coolant on the belt causing it to squeal. I knew I smelled coolant a few days ago

 

I've got those on my truck. Fair warning that they are very slippery in the rain and the finish on them sucks. I've had 2 sets replaced under warranty.

 

So I heard a loud pop when pulling into a parking spot at work today. The ride up here got kinda iffy with the truck wandering on the highway at 75. I turned the wheel a few times and lunch and heard some pops and find these. I think I drops my balls.








So the great thing is that I'm 65 miles from my house. I don't know if I can drive with a completley busted cv axle. It feels wobbly even at slow speeds.

Goodies from @shifty` and @daveeasa showed up today. Planning to start on radiator replacement today but going to hook up this fog light harness adapter and see if it works as we hope. I'll give more details if it does.
