Toyota recommends 75w-85 but I hear it's better to go with 75w-90 for our trucks if you use it heavily. Since AMSOIL is so hard to find and expensive, I'm thinking about going with one of these..

    https://www.amazon.com/Mobil-104361...000ONZXPK/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

    Transmission

I'll probably lean toward sticking with OEM fluid unless someone knows of a better alternative but I saw two Toyota fluids out there..

    Do I go with this:
    https://www.amazon.com/Toyota-Genui...&qid=1496686378&sr=8-1&keywords=toyota+75w-85

    ..or this:
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004SKRLGE/ref=psdc_15719351_t3_B004SL9HP6

I'm at almost 55k and am going to do a drain/fill maintenance on it.

Just a heads up if you do your 4.88 gears soon. When I spoke with Auburn gears they recommend Non synthetic oil
80-90 Weight oil with additive. They also said not to use Aimsoil on the gears.

I'm curious, when does Toyota recommend transmission service?

I do my diffs every 10k because I'm so hard on them

If you look at the back of your service manual it gives you the mileage points for different services.

I'm most likely going with an ARB air locker instead of Auburn LSD -- does that change things (with Nitro gears)?

jeezuz man I know this. I was just wondering if I could get a quick answer to satisfy my curiosity instead of driving all the way home and digging through my manual.

    but thanks anyway

Sorry bro misunderstood your question. I called Toyota service and they said any Tundra 2006 to current the transmission oil change is at 100k miles. They said differential fluid change is every 30k miles.

I don't want to mislead you on this one. I'm not completely sure. I would suggest you call ARB and ask them what they suggest then. That way you don't void any warranties or cause excessive wear to your gears.

Has anyone used RAVENOL J1C1003 SAE 75W Manual Transmission Fluid - MTF-3 Full Synthetic in place of the OEM 75W transfer case oil #08885-81080? The Ravenol is supposed to be the equivalent to Toyota 08885-81081, which is supposedly the same as 08885-81080, but packaged for Euro/Asian markets according to some Tacoma and 4Runner forums. The Ravenol is $15 on Amazon, as opposed to $55 for the Toyota fluid. Amazon reviews claim it is an exact match for 2014+ Tundra transfer case fluid.

Apparently there are a couple postings in Russian forums showing that 08885-81081 is actually a can of 08885-81080 with a new label slapped on for Toyota Motor Europe.

The Ravenol application guide on their website recommends their SAE 75W Manual Transmission Fluid - MTF-3 for 2014+ 5.7L (3UR-FBE) transfer case. http://www.ravenol.de/en/oil-guide.html

I have not. I know some have used the Royal Purple Synchromax in the transfer case. From what I've read, it's a better option than the 75W-90 that some people use, but still slightly different from a 75W.

I did use Ravenol about 6000 miles ago. Have not noticed any difference from the OEM fluid. I know there's been a few other guys running Ravenol as well.

I use Redline 75w85. You can usually find it online for $13-15 per quart.

I used royal purple about 17,000 miles 75w90 in everything.
I’m thinking of ordering that ravenol for the TC. Because now I’m worried. I went off an old thread a couple years ago when I did it.
Figuring the 07 through 15 we’re all the same. I’m pretty sure the royal purple was probably OK in the diffs. But I’m thinking of changing them again too. I wonder how critical it is to use 75w85?

Have you noticed anything running the Royal in the TC? I’ve heard the RP Synchromax is suitable for the TC, but still thicker than a 75w. Sounds like many dealers are still using 75w-90.

No it seems fine engages quickly. Disengagement is quick unless I continue straight, then the 4hi flashes until I make a turn. I changed the fluids so early in the life of the truck (3k) that I honestly don’t remember how it was before. Im at 20k now.

I’m actually probably running 75w-90 in the front right now. I had 4.88 gears installed last week. I brought a case of Redline with to refill the diffs, but the installer only used it in the rear so that I would have enough of it to do the 500 mile drain and fill of the rear with Redline.
