LOL, this guy forgot about the February 1st information reveal on the hybrid fuel economy.

22 MPG combined, 24 MPG Highway for the iForceMax Tundra according to him. No numbers given to the press at the event for Sequoia fuel economy though.

    Not mentioned, I won’t speculate.

Do we even know if the iForceMax will be offered with 4X2 Tundra’s?

So yeah probably 21/23 combined and highway for a 4X4.

That’s not great, but it’s not terrible. Depends on how it is priced, I do the vast majority of my mileage cruising along on two lane highways at 70MPH or so and an honest 23-24MPG with a 32 gallon fuel tank means less filling up during the week. Which would be a win for me, because often when I return from a trip I don’t want to get gas, and it’s no fun working on call and getting in the truck realizing you need to get gas before you go to work.

LOL... I am currently watching it, I guess I got in before it went down. And I did see the 19/22/21 overall MPG graphic.

19/22/21 not great but about what I expected for this thing that is designed to tow and haul, not MPG. In fact that is a little better than my Tacoma, at least on the city end of things. With a 32 gallon tank I could probably make my 1000 mile run to FL on 1 gas stop, at least without trailer. Maybe a second stop for a splash if necessary. For me the hybrid version is where I will be focused, of course depending on the pricing.

I thought the Pro would be at least $70k.

I read in another thread that the above does not include destination. So close to $70k for Pro.

At first I was put off by the unimpressive mpg and the eye-opening price difference of the hybrid. But looking at it in terms of relative value:
    HP: +12%
    Torque: +21%
    MPG combined: +10%
    Price: +5.6% (for the Platinum)

So for roughly 5% more money you get over 10% more horsepower and fuel efficiency, and over 20% more torque. I guess if you squint real hard you could justify it. Or maybe I'm just trying to justify it to myself.

Silly me. That's another WTF Toyota thing I had not even thought consider yet. LOL. I was just assuming the bed choices would be the same.

iForce Max is Limited and up, no SR5, with CrewMax 5.5 and 6.5 ft bed only.

Again, I am looking to hybrid as an offset for lift, 35's and additional weight. These numbers are decent enough that they should be golden, especially the city mpg.

I’m hoping the lift package Toyota is offering this summer is available for trd pros as well?

Not what I was hoping for. Not really in the market for another year and a half. There is still hope.

Yeah he mentioned that too, but I think he landed on 28. Either way completely unrealistic.

The only hope would be that Toyota offers a Prime plug in version with a much bigger battery. More EV mode for DD city use would be great. But Toyota moves very slow. And... I am not totally up on all the hardware such as the air conditioning and heating. For extended EV mode those would need to be electric powered and IIRC the AC is belt driven and the heat is conventional heater core and warmed from coolant. Would really need a bigger, or more, motors, too. These would be major changes so I am not holding my breath for this to happen.

The Tundra hybrid at least has an electric AC compressor (seen in the bare frame videos on driver side) so I think they just need to either figure out a more powerful front motor OR adding rear motors OR both. There are a few manufacturers that make e-axles. Dana, Bosch, a few others. If a plug-in is coming, I wouldn’t expect it until 2025 or 2026.

IIRC AMD's tech review video showed the AC compressor powered from a separate belt from the main serpentine belt, not electric. But that wasn't the hybrid version Tundra. Interesting that they made it electric for the hybrid. But yes, that and some extra motors along with a bigger battery would mostly do it. Adding an electric heat strip would be easy enough. Also agree that not gonna be soon... if ever.

Pretty weaksauce for how much more complicated a hybrid power train is compared to a standard powertrain.

I get what your saying, but "hybrid" usually is synonymous with better gas mileage. I wasn't thinking it would get 30MPG, but at least make the pack big enough to do something.

Maybe that’s why they branded it iForce Max instead of hybrid?
