Instead of watering down my massive post I decided to start a new one for the 2022. Before the new year I plan to have a prototype made for at least the cat plate for the 2022 tundra. Once I get under one, I will be able to better plan the rest of the plates. The front skid plate I have planned WILL HAVE TOW HOOKS BUILT IN!! I just gotta make sure it is durable enough for some abuse.

Just like my other post, I am very open to suggestions and ideas. This is kinda an open forum, so as long as you stay on topic, go for it

I am going to go measure a 2022 for the cat plate today, I hope to have the measurements sent to my plasma cutter so he can cut out a prototype for me to test fit this week.

That's awesome! Glad these Tundras only have 2 cats as I've seen from the video. Maybe just one cat plate to protect both.

    A bunch
They still have 4, but only 2 are exposed (unless 5 year old are stealing cats). And I'm sure a cat plate would stop any access to the higher 2 as well.

I just got done measuring for the front cat plate, I am going to have a cheap prototype made and I will test fit it this week hopefully.

I also spent a lot of time measuring for the front tow hooks! This is 100% happening. Instead of having a separate non skid plate option, I am going to make a short skid that will go between the bumper and the current plastic engine cover. I will eventually build off this for a full skid

Shackle mounts have my vote. You probably know this too, but a critical thing is to be able to tug from an acute angle without destroying the plastic. I haven't got in person with a '22 though so the specifics of making this possible I'm unsure on.

So I would be making the plate flush with the bottom of the bumper, so the shackle or tow hook would be further below the bumper. It will only be a few inches back from the bumper. But in any case, a large upgrade from nothing.

I am leaning towards a weld on shackle mount. Unlike all my other plates, this one will likely be 3/16 steel without options, but I might make the actual plate that goes across available in aluminum. Although technically the plate itself is not needed, it will add strength to side loads. Plus it will aid in aerodynamics by creating a flatter bottom to the truck and will lead into the front skid plate I will be designing. I want to have this tow hook piece and the cat plate completed so I can make sure the piece that goes between fits nicely as a package.

Please ignore the 3 bolts holding it up and how it is hanging down a bit, but I get you the cardboard template for the gen 3 tundra cat plate!! I am going to spend tomorrow making a good drawing and sending it off to be made so I can test fit a production plate.

I also made a crappy cardboard template for the tow hook mounts.

Very cool. The idea with the integration of tow hooks is perfect.

Quick bolt up of the plate, I need to make some changes, but this was very close to a production version.

Sorry, the new prototype is cut, but needs to be bent, I should have it Monday or Tuesday

Will the tow hook placement be visible on this prototype?

Oh, tow hooks won’t be on the cat plate. I need to pull the front bumper and grill off one to make a solid tow hook prototype

Prototype 2! It is welded just to make it easy to bend, the production version won’t need the welds

Alittle hick up last night… plus the roads in Houston got bad this afternoon… the plate is going to get fixed, but the prototype is done and will be bolted up soon.

As far as pricing, it is safe to assume it will be very close to the 07-21 front cat plate.

I am about to add it to the website

If it got hot via the cats, it would burn off paint/powder coat/bed liner off the plates, I have zero stories of this happening. Transmission temps have been data logged and it seems like there might be a few degree difference, but it is so close it could just be the way it was tested. Either way, safe to run

So, there was something that made me uncomfortable after reviewing the install of the front cat plate on the 2022, the truck it went on was 4x4, and the nut was a bit closer to the 4x4 half shaft yoke than I liked, I don’t think it would cause an issue, but I don’t like relying on I hope.

So, I will be adding a nut plate option for 4x4’s, it will be just like my TRD PRO nut plate, but it will have the nuts pointing down so I can use a shorter bolt to prevent issues. Also, getting the nut and bolts started with the front diff right there was a bit of a PITA.
