I'm not sure. The top of mine looks/feels the same as what I showed in the photos. Maybe he grabbed in a different spot? I can't believe there's another component above it. I'd think that piece is composite.

The dealer will still check it out next week I figured. Who knows? Appreciate all of your replies.

That's the attachment point for the front recovery points. They just velcro on.

Funny to see everyone freaking out over this. My Expedition had the same of course it went away and was replaced with an RCI skid plate.

Just like the OP should be doing any way.

    WTF!!!
Hell NO!! Take that shit back!!
Code RED!! That material will Catch Oil and become a Flaming FIRE HAZARD if below the engine.

I am honestly hoping you are just trolling us because THAT SHIT is UNACCEPTABLE!! It is a blanket ready to catch oil and any flame spark will burn your truck to the Ground.

Don’t walk, Run to the Dealer and Return that Shit.

It’s not a blanket. It is an infused, plastic like skid plate with some sort of a fabric or deadening material. Flimsy, yes. Ugly, yes. Incorrect blanket component, no. I have the same on my Limited. Also, here’s a screenshot from Care Care Nut’s video.

It’s certainly odd looking. Semi-Rigid would be a good way to describe the construction also.

I’ll probably leave mine alone and if it breaks, whatever! Only off roading I do is occasional beach fishing in NC and maybe a few times a year to camping/fishing spots off the beaten path.

My Limited has the same thing. Semi-rigid is a good way to describe it. It's not at all like the felt/blanket material that it looks like in the pictures. I'm leaving mine alone until aftermarket companies release their skid plates, then Ill replace it.

ETA: It's interesting that in the 2 videos Mattedfred posted, in The Car Care Nut's video, that cover looks the same as the one we are talking about. In thetopalovic's video, the cover is smooth black plastic. It's also strange that he mentions removing the front airdam to access the 2 front bolts (he says he's not going to do it), and doesn't mention putting the front airdam into maintenance mode/position.

Just read the comments on thetopalovic's video. His is a TRD OR, not a Limited. Maybe that's why his is plastic, and not fiber? And someone informed him regarding service mode for the front airdam.

I hope it is not absorbent and will shed water and other liquids. My guess is that it is there as part of the aerodynamics intended to help increase fuel economy and not to protect the components above.

That’s what she said with a disgusted look on her face.

The undercarriage and fenderliners on my wife’s highlander is covered in similar fabric covered panels. Pisses me off every time it drags in 3 extra gallons of rainwater to drip all over the garage floor.

These fiber/fabric style covers are for NVH purposes. It helps reduce road noise and also helps with exterior noise requirements automakers need to meet. It doesn’t really have any aerodynamic effect since the front air dam is there to reduce flow under the car. So if you don’t like it just remove it.

That pic makes it look a bit better. The OP's pics are hard to pic out the details as well.
    Still seems crappy of Toyota.

That material sucks. Some manufacturers use it in the wheel wells too. Everything sticks to it. It’s a pain in the ass to clean.

now if they had a hard plastic cover below to cover it, that would be fine.

Started looking at how hard or easy it will be to change the Tundra's motor oil today.

Had to put the front spoiler down by turning engine off and holding wiper mist lever up for 2 seconds or more. Removed 4 bolts securing the deflector under the cooler/front engine area. Looks like the same material the front wheel wells are lined with. I don't plan to do off pavement driving with the Tundra, so this light weight deflector will do fine for me, easy to remove/install, too.

I like the drain under the spin-on oil filter:

This deflector is super light, flexible, and easy to remove/install. You will probably need metal skid plates mentioned earlier for serious off road driving.

Looks like this will be an easy oil/filter change.

Just a question for us DIY oil changers... can you get under there and get that job done without having it up on ramps? I can do that easily on my Tacoma but perhaps that Tundra retract spoiler in the down position makes it too tight?

I'm 6' and 200 pounds and can slide/squeeze under the front of the pickup when not on ramps when the spoiler is in the retracted/up position. The spoiler has be in the down position to remove the lightweight deflector, makes it easier removing the two front screws.

The question is can you get under there with the spoiler in the down position since that is where it needs to be to remove the panel and to access the filter?

I could not slide under the spoiler in the down position without ramps with my size.

I am about your size... less maybe 10 pounds... so I guess I couldn't make under it either. Damn, that's a shame. Needing ramps to change oil on a pickup truck is tragic.

Probably could reach around/under the spoiler in down position to remove front two screws to remove panel then retract the spoiler while changing oil/filter if a ramp is not used, but I did not retract the spoiler to see what it blocks with panel removed. Probably could work around spoiler in the retracted/up position with panel removed without a ramp.

IIRC AMD in his "tech review" video said that the retracted spoiler covered 2 of the panel bolts... so that might work, even if you had to do get those bolts by feel. Then retract it and get the other 2 bolts from under. I don't like using ramps because in addition to the inconvenience the vehicle is tilted backwards and might not drain as completely. I have a QuickJack 7000 SLX in my garage that would lift the Tundra... but the Tundra won't fit in my garage! And in my neighborhood jacking and ramping in the driveway is "frowned upon" by the HOA. I could get away with doing quick oil changes more easily if I can just crawl under.
