I have to question his calculations considering how many times he screwed up the test. I believe 20 but 24+ going 70? I really doubt that.

No problem at all, you encourage me to dig a little deeper. I found a video on YouTube on how to adjust your air suspension preset. The picture you took shows a bracket arm with a nut, that's the preset . Thanks gnc1017

Knock on wood, our 2012 Lexus GX460 premium has auto leveling and AVS shocks and it has always worked awesome. Love it, especially on road trips when heavily loaded and windy out. It's more of a handful and tiring until I put it in sport mode and then it's 100% better and less fatiguing to drive. Main reason I'm looking forward to it on a new Tundra, with hopes it will then be our road trip vehicle going forward. Sure hoping Toyota didn't screw up the Tundra's implementation in such a way it can't be corrected.

Also have it on my 2015 GS450h F-Sport and it's been reliable and works great on it too but with only 25k miles, it's had more age than use...

For those in TX, almost all interstate highway has 80 MPH speed limit, and most go 5 mph over so realistic cruising speed is 85 MPH

would you really go 70 MPH in TX in order to save gas but have 18-wheelers passing you constantly?

I did some test myself, at 85 mph I get 15mpg, and around 70 mph I get 22 mpg, it's crazy just 15 mph difference it wastes so much more fuel. It makes me suspect if big oil was behind the push to increase speed limit as they stand to benefit a lot

    New 2022 Tundra Suspension:

✅newly developed double wishbone front suspension

✅ front suspension benefits from a kingpin offset angle reduction to enhance straight-line stability and high-speed driving

✅ caster trail has been enlarged from 25.4mm (1 inch) on the previous generation to 34.1 mm (1.34 inches) for added stability

✅ roll steer has been reduced by 25% compared to the benchmarks, and the roll height center has been elevated (152mm compared to 104mm, or roughly 6 inches compared to 4 inches) to reduce body roll, especially when cornering

✅ Beefy NEW aluminum forged knuckles for reduced weight , prevents corrosion & stress cracks and there are steel inserts to reinforce ball joints

✅Air springs: Available on the SR5, Limited, Platinum and 1794 Edition, rear air springs replace the coils. They can vary rear suspension height up to 2.5 inches, but you can’t pair them with any TRD package. All TRD models, including the TRD Pro, have coils.

✅Air springs and adaptive shocks: Available on the Platinum and 1794 are adaptive shocks, marketed as Toyota’s Adaptive Variable Suspension system. They replace the passive shocks but pair only with the air springs.

✅ Tundra will feature standard twin-tube shocks at the front and rear of each truck

✅ TRD Off-Road package provides monotube Bilstein shocks improve damping for on-and-off highway driving

✅ TRD Pro gets even beefier diameter Fox internal-bypass shocks (2.5 inches versus the 1.8 inches for the Bilsteins) plus a 1.1-inch front suspension lift and a thicker front stabilizer bar that’s 20% stiffer.

✅AVS system (REMEMBER can only pair with Air Shocks) is designed to adjust damping force based , the AVS features built-in actuators in the FRONT and REAR shock absorbers to continuously change damping force based on the conditions, all to enhance handling, stability and comfort

✅ The Tundra hybrid (not available yet) gets unique suspension tuning due to weight differences

Note you could have air shocks alone except with TRD OR package or combine them with AVS package again not with TRD package

It won't be that bad or going 120 would be normal plus 20L/100km (around 35L/100km) and even my 2020 doesn't get that bad mileage. Every 10kms over maybe.

Doubt it. But in Montana I know they never had a speed limit but the feds told them they had to have one so they set it to 80 as that was the highest they could. 80 mph is basically no speed limit imo lol

    That doesn't seem right. At 100km/h, I average 13.5L/100km. At 120, about 15L/100km. This is in my '05 with the 4.7L V8.

This is CO2 emissions per mile. Tim kept saying NOx but that’s another story…
Carbon Dioxide grams/mile is directly correlated to miles/gallon. So as mpg goes up, CO2 grams/mile goes down. We can calculate how much CO2 is produced in the combustion process due to the stoichiometric air/fuel ratio. So 460 grams/mile is about 19 mpg.

There's no perfect formula for how many mpg's you'll lose over 60mph. Depends on a number of factors, like gearing, aerodynamics, engine setup etc. But you are correct that aerodynamic drag really starts to kick in around 60mph and it will take significantly more energy to increase and maintain 60mph or greater. That's why during the oil embargo in the 70's the speed limit was set at 55mph. Safety would be a secondary factor for those speeds, but fuel efficiency was number one.

If you watch the video he discloses that he passed through a few towns where he had to slow down to 40 or 25 mph and was not doing 70 the entire route - so not all highway speeds and not stop and go traffic but promising nonetheless

I seriously doubt it's a linear scale anyway. I'm sure the mpg drops much faster with a smaller and smaller increase in speed once you get above a certain speed, especially with the size and shape of a pickup.

Yes, most modern day vehicles are designed to be most efficient at 55-60 mph since that is common highway speed. There's tons of studies out there about it and while every engine is slightly different and has its own nuances, they all have the same relative efficiency graphs.

You can’t really apply a catch-all formula to highway efficiency. The aero resistance, rolling resistance, driveline friction, and engine operating efficiency at any given speed can be hugely different from on brand truck to another (even same model with different powertrains). I’d be really curious to see 70 mph vs 80 mph highway cruising mpg.

Yeah, it's exponential. The formula for velocity vs weight vs frontal area is about three sentences long.

Just spoke with my dealer in Canada who had the training course on the TRD Pro today, he stated the combined fuel economy is 11.2L/100km or 21mpg-ish.
