Official 2022 Tundra 3rd Gen Thread

Read all my posts. Ditto issues. Toyota refused to resolve other than wait for parts. Dealership (Findlay Toyoto/Henderson NV) came thru with new truck at their sole expense

 

I haven't been on here in a minute, been a busy holiday season for me. I did get the chance to pick up my 2022 CrewMax SR5 TRD Sport this weekend and put a couple hundred miles on her. Loving it already.

 

This is the combination of airbags, bed cover and spray on bed liner. I believe it's a programming issue with the PSI preset in the airbags. If you have airbags you do not have Springs. Every little dip the truck buttoms out. Anyone else with this combination and problem? This it a picture of where the truck sits with nothing in it. I Put 3 bags of dirt which weighed 300 pounds and it was sitting on the axle. This is not ok.

 

What else would you have them do? If they don't know how widespread the issue is, what would be the point of giving you a new truck that may have the same issue?

How do you adjust the psi in the system? Shouldn't it be auto load leveling? I don't know enough about the new system in these.

 

The only way it auto levels have it on tow+haul. I believe it has a preset psi and they didn't calculate for bed covers and bedliner weight. I'm not going to get in my truck every day and press tow+haul so that I can have a better ride. I shouldn't have to do that.

 

That can't possibly be the way the system is setup. That's terrible if so. It should auto-level regardless of tow haul.

 

That's not the case ,like I stated I threw 3 bags of sand which weighed 100 pounds each and I rode from Lowe's to my house with the bump stops on the axle. Of course I eventually pushed the tow+haul button and it did self level. Either way the 1st picture I posted is where it sits with nothing in the car and just for daily driving with nothing in the back I shouldn't have to push tow+ haul. You can manually increase the PSI but only up to 18 miles an hour, then auto switches to normal height over 18mph.

You have a manual toggle switch underneath the air conditioning settings with a plus and negative.. Handbook States you can deflate airbags for onloading and you can increase PSI for rock crawling and off roading up to 18 mph on both settings..

 

So on the normal setting, with 300 measly pounds in the bed, you're riding on the bumpstops. That's terrible

 

Yes my thoughts exactly! Toyota wants me to bring it in but I know there's nothing they're going to do about it. I'll wait until enough people have the same complaint then maybe the programmer can increase the normal ride setting PSI.

 

They at least need to separate the auto-level from the tow/haul feature. I wouldn't want to drive around in aggressive mapping mode all the time just because I have a truck topper and some gear in the back.

 

Correct once you press the tow+ haul button it changes your programming like gearing, breaking and acceleration....

 

Uh, hopefully doesn't increase "breaking" seems enough is already broken...

 

I am shocked that the Tundra doesn't use a ride height sensor, just relies on dead reckoning?

I’m glad I left off the advanced package on the platinum. Seems like the bags and AVS are more trouble.

 

Absolutely why only on the tow+ haul setting does it have the ride height adjustment. What if I just had suitcases and a load for traveling , that would mean I'd have to put it on tow+ haul to accommodate for the load which changes gearing and most likely bad gas mileage.

 

Toyotas attempt at air bag systems and ride leveling systems etc have always been garbage, its usually the most and sometimes the only problematic feature on any of the vehicles they have put them on. (Lexus etc)....I laughed when I saw that they were offering it on the truck.

Sorry about your troubles, but while Toyota does build some things better than others, some things they are really terrible at...(I'm looking at you infotainment systems and navigation...lol)

 

Well damn. I thought the air suspension was supplemental for the rear coils, not the primary.

 

I remember trying to find a lightly used LS460 a few years ago. Everyone suggested to find the versions with the "steel suspension" meaning coil springs and not the air ride option. The air ride was very prone to issues.
Turns out, since I wanted AWD, those with coil springs were like unicorns. I eventually gave up and bought an Infiniti instead....

 

They should have just used the AHC system off the lx570. It's relatively trouble free if you keep up with maintenance and it's stout. Many people pulling travel trailers and boats well over the rating as well as cargo loads over with no issues.

 

gnc1017 posted that you can manually set the psi with an adjustable screw. I'm going to look into this.

 

While it may be stouter than some, a quick google search of LX570 AHC system yields forum pages upon pages of AHC system problem threads and issues as well.

What they should have done (if they wanted to keep the tundra legendary reliability in tact) is offered a payload package with better springs to compensate for the toyota notoriously inadequate soft springs and leafs. Or they could have done what Ram did with their 2500 coil spring set up and added a shock in the middle.

 

There might be hope yet for achieving rated fuel economy.

Sorry if I caused confusion. The screw adjust picture I posted was for headlight adjustment, not for the air ride. Hopefully, that screw adjustment will allow resetting of the headlight height (especially for those with the auto-level feature) when a front leveling kit is installed.

They've got to fix the auto-level when not in tow mode. Only reasonable option.
