Buying wheels and tires/tpms off a ‘19 and want to put them on my ‘16. Will the tpms work with my older truck or do I need to order new ones? New wheels are bbs pro old tires are ballistic aftermarket

Just curious to see what are some common corrosion-prone areas on the 2.5 generation tundra's?

The '19 tpms unfortunately won't work with your '16 Tundra. They change them starting in 2019. Make sure you order the sensors that will have the proper angle to fit your rims. The steel sensors have a greater angle the the aluminum wheel sensors.

Frame rust was a concern in areas of high road salt use but can easily be prevented by washing. There is a campaign where rust inhibitors are strayed into and on the frame. Rear backing plates tend to rust, front caliper pins can seize, pads can bind in the bracket from rust so brakes should be serviced once a year. Parking brake pivot mounted on the driver's frame rail can seize and cause baking brakes to stick. Easily prevented with a little spray grease when changing the oil. The ends of the parking brake were it goes into the backing plate can corrode, apply spray grease under the rubber housing cover. The rest of the truck is very good at resisting corrosion. Toyota did a good job at protecting the body.

Thank you so very much. My brake reservoir was low and at the minimum line. I added some fluid and seems good to go. Thanks again.

    Pretty things
Hopefully your brake pads aren't about at their minimum, or you may have a mess pressing the pistons back in to fit fresh pads... Container could overflow.

Next time I would put eyes on brake wear before topping off the reservoir.

Good to hear but as already suggested have the brakes inspected for wear. As your brake pads wear the calipers move out and your brake fluid drops.

Yes TOO Dam far to help him out with any issues gets me very frustrated

He sent me this photo of a hard plastic block that fell out of his RAV4 after backing off his Ramps from an oil change
He says there are some push pin fasteners missing out of his lower bumper guard to skid plate area

I believe it could be some kind of isolation block between frame and guards ??
Any ideas / help with what the part is and were it goes would be GREATLY be APPRECIATED !!

I would bet he has plastic ramps...There is a plastic foot on the bottom of those that look just like that.

I don't recognize the part. Hard to see what size it is because there is nothing to reference it to. It's probably not for the vehicle. He noticed the push pins missing and thought and the plastic plate hanging and though that they were related. Those pins go missing all the time. People tend hit the plastics from when backing up and catch the plastics and pull the pins out. Around here it's usually snow banks but I could see a set of ramps catching them.

That is the grip foot insert for the ramps.

Although not a mechanic I can tell you changing brake fluid when the color starts to get dark or simply just when your maintenance schedule recommends it is often overlooked. Brake fliud holds moisture and if not changed often enough can cause rust to form on any ferrous metal inside the system.

Exactly. Most leaks at calipers, wheel cylinders (not Tundra) and master cylinders are caused by water in the system that corrodes the inside wall and allows brake fluid to get by the sealing surface. Using a brake fluid test strips is a good method to show water absorption.

Do the test strips work well?

I picked some up off Amazon and tried one last weekend. Since my truck lives outside, I expected the fluid to be more contaminated after 2+ years. 6C662803-9B19-4ED1-A71D-7ABD44A98DB2.jpg

Question, I am getting an intermittent burning smell when the A/C is on. Smells almost electrical, or rubber burning, not sure if the belt is slipping or any chance the clutch on the compressor is wearing out?

Additionally last week I caught a bearing failure type sound behind the radiator. Maybe the idler pulley.

Have someone start the truck and operate the AC while you're listening for the sound and smell at the front of the truck. Remove the serpentine belt and spin all the pulley wheels and listen and feel for any roughness in the bearings. Check the belt for cracks and if it looks worn with a alot of cracking replace it along with the tensioner. The tensioners are known to get weak.

They do work. Your brake system is a sealed system so after only two years it's unlikely the fluid would be contaminated even with the truck outside. Usually after 5 years I would start testing.

    Hi!
I've been dealing with ignition start problem since I had my autostart fail.

When I purchased my truck, I had the dealer install an autostart at the time of purchase. Looking at what they did, it seems that they used an aftermarket autostart and used a "hack" to install it. :(

When my mechanic opened up the steering column and looked at where the wires connected. My mechanic managed to straighten out the mess there, but we were still getting the intermitten start. When checking the engine compartment main fuse box, it was discovered that the wires for fuse's "ECU-B1" and "AM2" were short. They were not making 100 percent contact with the contacts. Also it seemed the contacts themselves seemed to be damaged at some point. The mechanic added and replaced wire/fuse's. So after that was done, I was still getting the intermitten start.

When I mention intermittent start, I'm meaning when the key is inserted and turn to start the truck. I'm not getting any instrument gauge lights. Accesories turn on such as the radio. The engine will crank but no fuel is running. If I jiggle the wire with the connector that I've circled in red in the attached pic. It will eventually allow the instrument cluster lights to turn on allowing me to start the truck. So I'm on my wits end. Would you have any suggestions on how I can fix this? Did I overlook something? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If a Toyota dealer did this, they need to be reported to Corporate. That's ridiculous!

I will do that tomorrow.... serpentine is done, been done..... I do have a tensioner pulley, but will need to acquire the idler pulley. The water pump is on the list to be replaced as it started leaking. I did notice the burning smell was strongest with the heater on... Been having literal headaches this whole week over it, I just didn't put 2 and 2 together till yesterday..

Yeh the smell from the engine compartment can be drawn in from the cowl when the heater is running. When you installed the new belt are you sure you got the belt routed correctly? It's a bit tricky and confusing.

It would be really tough for me to diag this on a forum. Since the problem seems to be related to the power distribution box and it's damaged anyways can you find a used one and replace it?

Truck failed to start (using the button, not the fob)

    Weirdness this morning...

A little background on my barely-okay remote start... It doesn't always work. I get signal probably has to be strong, and if I turn the fob this way or that it gets better; but sometimes it takes two or three tries, and a few times I've just had to go manually start the truck. Remote start seems to work fine afterward when the truck is similarly situated, so it makes my face pinch up a bit that it's an okay feature on a great truck. That's the whole two years since she was born.

This morning I remote started it. Again, had to go at it twice, but didn't think anything of it. There's a closed metal garage door between me and the truck, even if it's only 30 feet away.

Go to put my wife in the truck, and it didn't shut off when I opened the door. Engine kept running. That's not the way the factory remote start is supposed to work, and the first time it's done it since I owned it.

Her seat warmer wouldn't come on. Maybe the computer just got confused, so I shut her down, waited a second, and hit the button again. Nothing. Not a single noise.

I spent the following five minutes cycling through all the things - foot off the brake to cycle through accessory, then 'ignition on' w/o the engine being on, then foot on the brake and hit start. Sometimes 'ignition on' and accessory would come on, sometimes not. Seat would move (memory seats), then they wouldn't. Finally I stopped to take a breath, and I'm not sure if a capacitor unloaded, gods smiled in my favor, or the truck just got tired of trolling me, but it started. Everything worked, everything was fine. Off to Starbucks to retrieve the wife's coffe with no problems. Got home and spent a few minutes reading the latest posts on the ToyoMafia Clubhouse thread, then here to whine to you guys.

I just jotted out and started the truck (not remotely) - everything seems fine.

    Anyone have similar trouble?

Does the truck have a Toyota remote start? When multiple thing go wrong always look at the grounds. Are the terminals at the battery clean and secure? Even if they look clean remove the terminals and clean the connectors and battery posts. Always remove the negative battery terminal first and always connect the negative terminal last. How old is the battery? Report back.

Thank you sir. Battery is 2 years old (along with the rest of the truck). I'll get under the hood and clean those terminals as soon as the weather isn't hostile. It's started 4 times today since the failure. If there's a short, I'd bet it'll have something to do with the Toyota remote start, but I'll have it at the dealer for an inspection this week, and they can lift her skirt up while it's there.

Very unlikely it's the remote start. The only issues I've seen with them is that they will set a code and the short range remote doesn't work but the long range continues to work. Do you not have any warranty left or are you over on mileage?

A failure of the battery is not uncommon after two years on the Tundra.
