What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

@FirstGenVol Tell me about your sliders. Where did you get them, and do they function well as a step?

 

Interesting enough, I'm not seeing it in my exploded parts for either picture.

Maybe it's like the 3rd brake light and they don't give you a gasket unless you buy the whole cowl cover assembly? That would suck. It seems like it's a common-ish looking part, maybe possible to source 3rd party?

However, I see the cowl push pins and their little white hat-shaped receivers are there. I'm just going to order a handful of each. Those things are bastards. I think I may just replace them all.

They were made by White Knuckle Offroad. Pricey, but there aren't a ton of options for our trucks. And yes, they work great as a step which is part of the reason why I picked these. Some people prefer sliders that hug the body but I wanted this style.

 

Today I successfully created more work for myself installing a Ram Mount. Ram Mount is in but cab lights don’t turn on when I open the driver side door. Driver side back door and both passenger side doors will turn cab lights on when opened. And for some reason my headlights don’t turn off on their own when I turn off the engine now.

 

The head lights shut off when you open the drivers door so it's the same problem.

Chances are the switch is just crapped up.

I went and looked at mine, they may've changed the function in later models. My plunger is about halfway up the rear suicide door, and it doesn't seem like there's a plunger for the rear suicide door. So weird.

 

Honest question - why would one need a ground plunger on a suicide door when the main door has to be open for the suicide door to be open?

 

It’s the plunger on the rear door. After taking all the molding off again to check if I cut any wires, I played with the plunger and the cab lights flickered on and off. Seems I need a new one.

Pretty weird indeed! The plunger on the rear door is for the front door. At least he one where the 2 doors meet. There’s another separate one somewhere for the back door I would think since my cab lights turn on once the back door is open.

 

On my '06, the front side of the rear door acts as the jamb for the driver door. All amenities for the driver door are mounted on the rear door: The loop the driver's door latches onto, the courtesy light plunger for the driver's door , and who knows what else. I couldn't find a plunger for the rear door anywhere.

But I don't know what's on the pre-'05 models. They may be different. Or I may've missed where the rear plunger was, or maybe it's not a plunger after all? I didn't try pushing in the driver's door plunger and opening the rear door.

Yeah. Looks like that’s the whole ID. BTW the truck is a 2000, I just put ‘99 cuz I have yet to find anyone with an earlier manufacture date. Mine’s 06/99

 

IIRC they come apart pretty easily to clean up. It's literally nothing besides a spring loaded metal disk so a long as the spring works it's just dirty.

 

After a lot of looking and seeing some in person, along with testimonials, I think those are the best 1st gen option. Probably other rides as well. Of course I went a different route, lol, I'm working in left field.

 

I'm looking for some rear mud flaps.

 

If the light comes on once the rear door is open - might be a bit of a frayed wire, or loose wire to the switch. Opening the door would flex the wire.
But i'm with others, try cleaning/inspecting your switch. I don't think anyone opens the back door enough to fray those wires.

My install was bumped due to rain from 12/27 to 1/18. I’ll definitely post photos once it’s done. I’m curious how I will like them. Intended primarily as a ridiculously overpriced step for my undeserving children

Who’s welded something attached to their truck? Disconnect battery and extra ground to earth?

ive always been able to remove whatever im welding and amn’t comfortable welding on an efi vehicle. Not welding ‘to’ the truck, but tacking to brackets in place.

 

I’ve welded on it plenty of times without touching the battery………
But yes just remove the negative cable on the battery

 

Once I’ve seen with my eyes, you too can see. This is all I have so far. When I picked it up it was already off. He does a test fit and tack weld, then finish welds and powder coat which is all done so just waiting on final weld in.

 

Me too on accident. Scares me every time I realize it, but no problems.

 

Maybe @Outbound could explain better, but I’m sure if your welder wasn’t working properly or properly grounded, it might cause issues, but I haven’t fried anything…….. yet

 

Ok. Looks like I have just tested positive for the beginning stages of slider fever. Can’t afford those awesome White Nucs. Quick search on Summit turned up some Trail Gear components. What I have come up with is their 58 inch slider and legs, L brackets and gussets and a $10 oversized fee for ~$350 shipped. Going all bolt on. Gotta sleep on it a few nights.

 

CBI ditch light bracket mounting today. Not bolt up on 05 DC, but I think they will be. Progression and my makes sense to me math.
I think if I get the brackets 3/16 more forward I’m good.

Haven’t test fit yet, but I’m feeling good about my amateur mill skills.



2nd Edit:
I have a bit of rear hood lift. I’m going to let it wear in. Currently matches my front hood lift after I adjusted my bumps to eliminate rattle.
