The affected vehicles are being held "at port" wherever that is, pending availability and replacement of defective steering rack etc. in Feb time frame. If the dealer is really receiving the vehicle on their inbound list, they can and do hold vehicles. Call and speak with the highest level in Sales at the dealer and say you want to put a deposit on the vehicle. Of course after you agree on price.
I made the same decision and got one of the last ones in October. Mine is also affected by the recall. 3k miles and no issues or symptoms yet. Good luck!

Agreed. My new 2021 vs my previous 2016 I've noticed several improvements. It feels more refined. Drives and shifts smoother and throttle response is improved. Finally got rid of the old school antenna and the new integrated satellite/radio shark fin has improved reception. The Android auto and phone interface much better with improved functionality. Have not towed yet, but told that the new brake controllers work well and similar to Tekonsha. Previous OEM controller was inadequate and unsafe.
The 2021 will be a collectors item down the road. The last of the best. (My personal forecast).

Trouble is the dealers that have the 2021 model are not local to me and they will probably up the price.

Maybe i should get my local dealer to find a slightly used one.

Is there a chart that shows changes and improvements over the years?

Go on cars.com and buy one from a dealer here (New England) and drive it back home. I have yet to even see a 22 up here but have seen msrp 21’s still on the lots.

Have your dealer search the network for a new one, or do it yourself online. Then start calling.
Not aware of a summary chart of changes.

Priority in Springfield has a white SR5 they’ll sell after the warranty fix. I got a SR5 double cab 4x4 from Koons Arlington for 44k OTD on Dec 31st. Chesapeake MD Toyota has a few SR5s.

I had a similar dilemma. I had a little Speed3 racecar and needed a truck. Was wanting to get a 2021 but there were none in my area. Was on a waiting list for a 2022 but they are just so damn ugly and I wanted to get away from turbo and premium gas as my previous two cars were turbo. Was looking at used Tundras and the market sucks so bad now but ended up getting a 2014 with only 64k miles and it is in excellent condition. I've had it for a month and I love it. I really wanted to grab a V8 before they go extinct. Even RAM is doing away with their 5.7 Hemi soon. They will replace with an inline 6 turbo to save that measly 3 mpg.

Man unfortunately this isn't even a choice they can really deny. The EPA has mpg guidelines and they need to meet X mpg by Y year and the only way is cutting out the bigger engines in favor of more fuel efficient models. I think it's called corporate average fuel economy or something that.

2021 TRD Pro in the MGM Master Race!
I’m in Stafford and had the same problem. I really liked the upgrades to the ‘22 but not the appearance. I started looking at used and couldn’t find what I wanted (a ‘20 or ‘21 TRD Pro in MGM with low miles) within 100 miles of me at Toyota or other dealers. I went to Toyota’s site and found a ‘21 SR5 TRD at port in MGM. I sent a note to my local dealer who said they had it in stock. Drove the 3 miles to find out they didn’t and wanted to sell me a ‘22 instead. They did “look” in their system but could not find the ‘21 in port.

I left and found this forum with the threads on the rack recall so I sent the dealer a note asking if it would be available once the issue was fixed, never heard back from Sheehy. I kept looking and found four used TRDs in MGM, one at a Toyota dealer, one at a Porsche dealer, one at BMW and one at Nissan. I emailed each and started the bid against one another process. Some played, one really played. I ended up buying a ‘21 TRD Pro with 5K miles from a Nissan place 90 minutes from me the day after Xmas. They gave me a great price on my ‘14 Taco (only 19K miles so I’m like you, low miles and keep it forever), came down on the TRDs price and they beat my Credit Union’s financing rate. It took me longer to drive to the dealership than to complete the deal.

Good luck and I’d be pestering that dealer to get that one at port locked in for you.

I bought my 21 TRD OR CM MGM in September, rack failed mid october. My misadventures are chronicled in the top link.

Dealer shop fixed it in a few days. mechanic warned that this would be a bigger (recall) issue and that I was "lucky" because it wasn't considered recall worthy when mine when out.

I guess you could call my truck one of the whistle blowers.

It sucks you can't buy a truck being aware of the potential issues.

Went to my local dealer today asked if i could order a 21 model since toyota.com was showing 15 of the ones i wanted in stock. I was told this dealership can only order the 22 models the young salesman told me how great the 22 model is i said i didn't like it and wanted a V8 he told me how the V6 is more powerful. I asked him why they are on toyotas website for sale then. He did not know.

Even a young salesman knows he wants to sell you something and he can’t sell you a ‘21 right now but you should be able to ask the Sales Manager if you can place a deposit on one of the ‘21s at the port as those will be avail for sale at some point (probably in Feb) and you would like to “reserve” one with a personal check -
Keep up the good fight and get a V8 if at all possible…

What mileage are you expecting to pit on a truck you don’t trust a V6TT? Over 300k miles?

I'd definitely go for the 2021 if you want new, and now is the time. My plan is to keep my 2017 for the next 20-25 years. I'll be 79 when that happens. I wouldn't own another truck. Even so, the Gen2.5 TRD PRO is the only Tundra I'd own. Was and is (for me) the perfect truck.

I was recently tempted by the new Jeep Wagoneer, to get back in a Jeep and get 3 row seating back for family convenience and 10K towing, but it is far too luxobarge.

I found a brand new 21 CrewMax SR5 Off Road about 7 hours from me. After just a couple days of haggling, they accepted my offer of $1,800 less than sticker so I jumped on it. It's crazy I got a better deal on this than I could find on used 19's or 20's. HOWEVER, I can't get it until the power steering recall has been fixed. Keep trying and widen your search area.

I must be the strange one since i want a double cab. There is not as many of them out there.

There is a lot more crewcabs to pick from that is for sure but a 5.5 bed is kinda small.

I found that to be true as well. I wanted a double cab and saw most dealers had all crew cabs. More difficult to find, but they are out there.

I was looking to purchase a DC for my business. I talked to about 50 dealers over the past 2 weeks with most adding a $5K market adjustment. That would put an SR5 price up into Limited Territory. I did find a handful that would sell at MSRP with 2 being Limited models. I was able to secure a 21 DC Limited Premium Off Road in Cement for MSRP. It's currently at the port waiting for the steering recall but at least I know it will eventually show up.

Yeah i never understood the crew cabs, i always thought they where for people that didn't really need a truck. I do see the appeal to them.

    Too many, but not enough....
Everyone needs a truck! Question is to what degree. I use my CM like a truck all the time but I figured its not possible to add interior space but I can always get a bed extender, tow hitch bed extender or open the rear window to fit something long if need be to make up for the 1 foot loss in bed length.
