Thanks @AccuTune Offroad for the insight. If anyone wants to better understand shocks and tuning, the Accutune website is a great resource.

Thanks for the diagram and explanation. For those of us lifting the rear, it seems the off the shelf shock options don’t actually have the necessary length to take full advantage of lift. King OEM rear shocks are for 0-1” lift. Many of us have 2” of lift or more. Should we measure full droop without shock and buy a shock that long? Or should we allow the shock to be the item that limits droop? Which seems like a bad idea. I don’t want my shock topping out.

You don't want the shocks to be bump stops. Sometimes people extend bump stops front or rear, but that limits up travel. It's best to use a shock that does not bump or limit up-travel. That can be very damaging. If it's going to limit anything, it should be droop. Most trucks are like that. If you run hard, you attach limit straps adjusted to your application, so the straps hold the axle / rear end and the shocks aren't holding that weight if your truck is bumping or flying off the ground.

You can run limit straps if you are concerned about the shock being the limiting factor. Unfortunately Fox/King only have one length rear shock for a Tundra.

I called King and they confirmed they are the same exact shaft and housing and do contain a spacer. So I’ll be taking my spacer out and I’ll be sure to shoot a video.

It's a 1/4" spacer that yields 1/2" more down travel at the hub.
Edit: on that shock may be a 3/8-1/2” spacer.

Where are you seeing the rears are for 0-1”? Filthy says up to 2”.

Not sure, but I’d seen 1”, 1.5”, and now 2”. Like my first fish, it keeps gettin bigger. ;-). I’m glad to see they’re saying 2”, since I have 3” right now with my Deaver U748 installed last weekend. I’m told It will settle down a bit.

:boom:Well thats fun. Aside from the email response I have from King about this, our Techs confirmed this also. I will be interested to see what you find, maybe they changed it? Would love to see some photos of the piston rod/piston assembly before and after you remove the "spacer".

It’ll be a while. It’s my only ride, so it’s going to be a big day of removing coilovers, installing Camburg UCAs, rebuilding coilovers, and changing to 650lb springs, and a make shift alignment before getting it in for a proper alignment.
You folks might be able to answer a question. I’m only up 1” or so front and back. When I hit bumps and whoops it feels great. When I hit pot holes above 15mph, it sounds and feels terrible. Top out?

    UPDATE.
Luckily we have a set of 2.5 DIA King Coilovers for a 07+ Tundra in stock (KRS-25001-143) so I personally went in back to open up the shock. See attached photo, there is in fact no spacer in these coilovers.

I've been in talks with @Keithbickford about this as well. Hopefully he can report back if he finds something different on his shocks when he does a rebuild (fingers crossed thats not the case).

If anyone else has personally seen something different with their own two eyes, please feel free to chime in. Hopefully we can squash this rumor once and for all.

Thanks for looking into this. The lower portion of mine is silver. I’ll let you know if/when I open them up.
