You'll need some really good soldering skills.

The 05/06 has SMD style LEDs directly mounted on the instrument cluster circuit board.

There was one member that posted a while ago about swapping them but I can't remember who.

being an 06 your truck will require modifications to the circuit board to change the color from what it is. the LEDs under the gauge faces are white. the face is what makes them green, if you sand the green off the back of the gauge faces, white will shine through. i did mine, left some green in too.. looks good

Is it painted onto the overlay, like, where one could wipe off w/acetone?

Sand it off. Acetone would probably eat the whole face

Did you have to remove the needles to get the instrument face off? Is that as simple as removing from the center poles?

You need to remove the needles. Getting the needles reinstalled properly is a total bitch. Have fun!

That's the only reason I haven't done mine.

I’ve removed needles using a pice of electrical tape on the face and the tangs of a dinner fork under the base of the needle.

It's reinstalling them correctly on the later-model trucks that's tough. Remember, with the '05 - '06 cluster, all gauges (except gas) sit in near the middle of the range when running, so getting the position correct on reinstall, knowing the gauges are going to drop past the stop if able. It makes getting it spot-on a difficult task.

I've seen a lot of tips on how to ballpark it, but honestly, accuracy is important to me, knowing my luck, I'll get it wrong.

I remember reading a post by @whodatschrome about tracking his speed with gps and trying to put the needle back in the speedo at 55mph while doing 55mph

It was fairly easy and worked (still works) perfectly on my 2004 AC. I’m tempted to readjust my oil pressure gauge needle now. I have no idea how the 2005-06 trucks are different.

I’ve also did the same speedo needle adjustment on my old vespa P200. I hopped on the highway and kept my speed at 60mph. I held my left hand on the throttle tube (yes, the right hand side of the handlebar). I then set my right arm on top of my left arm (in order to steady myself) and pushed the speedo needle back on its post, while staring at the GPS. Kinda sketchy, but it did the trick.
