My problem started with a battery drain, then went to not being able to operate the power windows, and now the truck won't start. The accessories will work, but the ignition will not even try to start the truck.

    1. I am looking for help as how to confirm it is the ignition switch causing the problem, or if it is something else.
    2. If it is the ignition switch, I need help/links to a good tutorial on how to replace it. Is the ignition switch just one component or multiple? Which should I replace? Also, what are the issues with using my old keys vs. new keys? Will the new ignition come with new keys? Will those new keys work in the door lock? Are there other components I should replace if I have the column open?

I am mechanically inclined, but clueless on this one.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

If the key turns the lock is not the issue.

Open the steering column, unscrew the wire harness from behind the lock and see if it can be made to work properly with the tip of the key or a screw driver. Most likely the issue is the contacts inside the switch and you need that harness.

I am dealing with the exact same issue. The battery is good. Cables good. Fuses good. Tried to hook it up to a code reader and the reader won't connect.
My initial thought is something is blown. My son had tried to jump it with no success after draining the battery.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

Maybe crossed the terminals burning those big blocked relays.... I am not trying to be a smart ass, but a Triple A tow truck driver did this to my truck.. I was paying attention at the time and noticed some smoking from the battery and was able to rip out the cables before he got back in his truck and hit the gas... Didn't do any damage, but was struggling with batteries at the time.....
