Door lock failure

Has anyone here had their electric door locks go out ? Mine went out slowly one door at a time and even started working again for brief periods. Now all 4 have quit. Replacing the switch was not successful.

 

Some have indeed had to replace actuators.

 

My neighbors Tundra has issues with his locks when the temps drop below 50 degrees. When the temp is higher, they work normally

Two of mine went out. It was a weird intermittent thing at first.

finally took the plunge and went with replacing actuators.

I had both of my front doors go out. 3 dealerships told me it was $800-1100 to replace both. I ended up fixing it myself by replacing the motors inside the actuators for $12 total.

The motor part number was

I did my two door for under $100 and about 15 min each. Depending on how fast you can get door panels off.

I have had mine off more than a few times and it’s easy at this point

 

I have replaced 2 of my motors and will soon have to do the 3rd. I bought a 4 pack of motors on Amazon for about $20 and replace them as needed. It's a little bit of a pain to pull the actuator apart, but it takes about 30 minutes total for me to replace one so it's well worth the savings from taking it to be done.

I also got all four of mine through Actuatorsplus. I tried my hand at disassembling the acutator motor and cleaning it and ended up boning the whole thing. If you like taking apart stuff and snapping clips, buy the motors and replace them. If you just want to take out the old actuator and replace it with a refurbed unit, just buy 'em from actuatorsplus on ebay. It'll run you about $50-60 per unit, but it's way quicker and easier than futzing with disassembling the whole thing to swap the motor.

 

Mine had 2 bad ones when I bought it-made the dealer fix it before I bought it. As soon as I got the truck, I had the automatic door lock feature (when you hit a certain speed) and automatic unlock feature (when you put it in park) disabled. I figured the constant locking and unlocking of all 4 doors is a major wear and tear issue, and in my case, I don’t want it anyway. I’m usually by myself in the truck, and can very easily just lock the door manually once I get going somewhere. And the doors open from the inside without needing to unlock it.

 

You bring up a good point. However, I’m guilty of hitting my lock and unlock button 2X when I’m either locking or unlocking the truck. I’m sure that adds excessive wear and tear on those mechanisms. I’m not sure why I do it, it’s probably my OCD. I do have mine set to either lock or unlock all the doors with one push on the fob. Being is usually just me as well, I could probably set it the other way to save wear and tear on the other 3 mechanisms. If they where a lot harder to replace ( like my old Denali) I’d probably do that.
