I wonder if you could have a tune developed that would pass CARB? then flash back to fun?

Could one develop a CARB tune that remaps the gas pedal/throttle to make it 40% at top...mega weak throttle. This would work, no? Then the motor would act like a 381/401 motor.

    just ruminating....

    The nature of Stage 2.

I appreciate the Tundra acting like a pussy cat as I cruise down the hwy @ 60mph - getting ~17mpg. (used to be 18 - we'll see when I run a tank)

    and

lumbering around town without any indication of massive TQ.

    and

have the ability to summon a LOT of power by simply pressing the gas.

    it is quite intoxicating.

Yes, I could push the limits of the motor, but I generally behave. The truck abides.

This comforts me - as I know if I break something, it's because I did not behave.

behaving is tough when even light throttle nudges you back in the seat.

Stage 1 was very nice - probably all I really needed. it checked all the boxes.
I imagine Stage 1 tuned would be Primo.
Stage 2 goes to the second page.

    Cruise control -
Stage 1 going up hills, the trans rarely downshifted. boost bypass closed and lumbered up the hill.

Stage 2 going up hills, the trans rarely downshifts. Boost bypass closes and it accelerates faster than stage 1, then back off & adjusts speed. nice.

I can’t wait to join the club! My intake is getting built as we speak. Hopefully will ship out this week. Looking good NobodyinTexas!!! I was guessing mine was at about 440-450 after stage one tune. Mine transmission was acting crazy on the one- two shift while on the stock calibration also! I thought it could be where I leveled it but even after doing a ZPC it was still happening. Had it tuned and no problems since. I believe 600 crank hp is max from what I’ve been told. Hopefully I won’t blow it up! I only get a heavy foot every once in a while.

    damn it.
please post pictures of said intake when you get it all installed. I was hoping I was done!

glad to hear your stage 1 tune cured similar issues. Validates issues for others to see.

I enjoy the stewardship this forum brings to the folks that do this kind of stuff.

Will do. Aluminum shortage has held mine up. Yeah I like the idea that we can share our experiences and knowledge with others! I’m not to good to take advice or get good information from other people! Hell I’m almost 50 years old and learn something new everyday!

what number are you shooting for on Stage 2?

with a larger intake you could probably hit 520/560 at the wheels with ease.

@nobodyintexas Did you change out your spark plugs from the factory ones? I’ve read that at the higher power levels we should be running colder IKH24 plugs I just installed new standard iridium plugs when I went stage 1, I should have just waited cause I’ll have to change them again for stage 2.

Yes. I'm not familiar with Cali law on this. From what I understand the Harrop is CARB certified but the issue lies with modified ECUs now. It appears a recent law requires the ECU needs to be CARB approved as well.

I am refraining from stating that states/Gov should not be able to control the modifications to a vehicle.

Let's guess numbers - I say 507/532 accounting for larger drive loss of your 4wd system

    you'll need a rollcage!

Never mind I found it in a terrible news article. Guess my car will never pass smog again.

To be honest my goal is not to get the most hp I can. I just feel after spending 8k on a blower I want it to run the best efficient way it can. I don’t like it being held back or things turned down to make it work. Something over 500 to the wheels is good for me! Now later on if something happens to my engine I going forged block and I’m turning it up! Does anyone know the max wheel hp?

Man this thread is a bad influence. Finally pushed me over the edge and I ordered my remote DAP tune using HP tuners and the MVPI2. Also ordered the 650cc injectors and the IKH24 plugs. Now to decide if I really need the 80mm pulley! So many things to buy for the truck yet, including a limited slip diff to put all this power to the ground. It’s a real rabbit hole.

I asked my installer about Stage 2 and he said as long as you change the Pulley and injectors back to original and then reflash to original ECU, that should be enough to pass SMOG.
