Any good frame oiling recipes out there?

I only cleaned the axle and differential as they were visible using brake cleaner. I used just under 3 cans of Amsoil MP HD on my 2020 Crewmax.

FWIW, Krown is ok for the environment, it was developed for use on sea planes. Corn oil would definitelybe the more enviro choice though.

 

Any rustproofing is better than nothing!

I finally had a chance to spray the truck with corrosion free my self ..I will never ever complaining about the $189 they charge up here again. To do a thorough job it’s takes time a fare bit of time.

 

Started the PHM method of rust prevention the last couple days...it's not that bad if you take your time. I'm using microfiber to rub down the frame. The top side of frame where ya can't get fingers and towel, just feed a corner over and drag back and forth down as far as ya can. This obviously after the rag has a good amount of grease left on it. Don't forget safety glasses there's a lot of shit up in there, flakes and what not on mine. Where clothes you don't mind tossing.

I made my rod from a fish stick, 4 microfiber towels and tape because I forgot a sponge. Tried to run a fish tape the whole U shape of boxed portion but I don't think it's doable. Any where I can't get my hand with that rag is getting fluid film sprayed on it. I made it from front to leaf springs in about 1.5hrs Will take more pictures when done.

Don't forget some sort of pliers to grab that rod you will not get it out with just your hands after grease.

A quick question from a new member and my first post. August of 2019 I bought a 2003 RCLB. Colorado being as dry as it is I've noticed a squeaking on the right side just behind the cab. I suspect it has something to do with where the bed is attached to the frame rail and this subject matter of this thread may help.

I realize that this was brought up to help rust proof the frame but will this also possibly help my situation? If not, I may a have another common issue. Thanks for any insight.

 

Welcome to the club FJ. Grease will always help a squeaky situation. My suggestion would be to remove the 6 bolts that hold the bed onto the frame, raise the bed up a couple inches and grease all the areas where the Bed contacts the frame. I assume you're not dealing with much of a rust issue?
The other thing to check would be the condition of the body mounts. If they're starting to deteriorate, that will cause some squeaks as well.

 

Thank you. I appreciate the advice. I love this truck and I'm going through it to make it like new. Thankfully the truck appears to have only surface rust but I may have to look at the body mounts as a possible solution. IMHO the first gen Tundras are the best.

I wanted to revive this thread because it's nasty weather season and I'm thinking about it. I just saw this on the youtube and wanted to get people's input. Wondering if anyone has had any experience with this new product from B'Laster.



A few questions for a noob that's never undercoated. What does one do with an older rig that's never been under coated? Pressure wash and wirewheel to get it reasonably clean then spray it? It's getting colder; don't bother now with the lower temps? Also, what under the rig do you want to stay away from coating? The only thing that really comes to mind would be the exhaust. Anything else?

 

I've read before there was fluid film, there was Bar & Chain oil which people used up North (Canada) and whereabouts to coat their frames in the winter time to keep them from rusting.

 

I sprayed mine down with a salt away and a pressure washer and then coated the shit out of mine with fluid film. Probably wasn’t a good idea to spray exhaust and all but was easier that way lol

 

I'm willing to cheat on Fluid Film and try this new product but it doesn't appear to be on any shelves near me. Even online I only see an option to buy 6 cans. I only need 2-3.

Ideally you would pressure wash off the dirt and grime first that way this can penetrate directly into the metal but spraying over that dirt won't hurt anything. Supposedly you should avoid spraying rubber with Fluid Film but I'm not usually that careful.

My homedepot has about 10 cand supposedly. I'm going to have to try this out. If I can be a help to any one I can pick some up and ship it.

 

I’ve still got a pretty good coat of fluid film from last year but some spots that need to be re-sprayed. Can I just spray over the top of what’s there or does it need to be cleaned and re-applied?

 

Spray it right over the old layer.

 

Any of these products are going to help (except for undercoating as stated). I'm using NH oil on my Tundra and have it applied annually although there is enough built up I could probably skip this year. But I've used grease in the past and nothing lasts longer than that. If you had an old vehicle that required greasing the ball joints, the excess grease on the control arms stays there forever and if you remove it the metal is like new underneath. Spread it everywhere and it does the same thing.

 

What I like about the PB surface shield is that it's seems like the power washer doesn't effect it. During the winter I usually try to hit the car wash that has underbody sparys to wash as much salt off. So I believe fluid film comes off with a power washer.

First time user here. It leaves a slimey residue on the surface.

I bought the 4L jug and cheap sprayer.

 

I am having a local shop apply fluid film this week. Takes them 3 hours. As long as you get something under there you will be good. Plenty of applications to pick from.
