I have the Y-pipe too! But only because when My cat was stolen, they cut the flange on the stock y-pipe.

Im getting nervous, they are running out of headers fast on JBA's website. Only 6 silver ceramic left, all the others are sold out. :bananadead:

So the JBA ypipe has been in for a bit and for me personally, I prefer the stock ypipe. Butt dyno says no bueno. (REALLY DEPENDS ON YOUR PREFERENCE THO) After the headers install, I had incredible low end torque. Just a tap and she was up n at it. Now the low end(under 1,500RPM) torque I had has moved to higher end torque(2k+RPM). She was a beast between 1-20MPH but kinda sluggish after that point till I hit 45mph+ before. Now she’s ok between 1-20 and a beast! after 20. Also, 70mph+ there is no resistance at all. I’m talking hitting 90 in a matter of seconds and peddle is only half way down. Love that she’s better/amazing after start offs but I drive like a grandpa and really liked how she would JUMP with just a tap at starts b4. So personal preference really comes into play here, starts vs everything else.

One thing I am noticing now is the glug glug sound from the headers @Darkness even with the resonator… and boy oh boy does she YELL even with peddle only half way down.

One thing I’m contemplating now is if removing the resonator would bring back some of the low end torque. I have an aftermarket resonator that’s wider than stock and it’s right up against the ypipe. Wonder if I may be losing a little umph cause the ypipe exits into such a wide space. The resonator is like 8” wide.

That's possible. When I went to the jba y pipe I had already cut out the resonator, I think. I didn't notice any real change with the Y.

That glug glug is nice huh.

It sure is and a lot more noticeable with the AC on/higher RPMs. I have a gut feeling the resonator needs to moved farther back at least. I’m just tired of paying the muffler dude $$$ lol. Wish I could weld it up myself

I picked up a small welder recently for a bit of exhaust work. Other things too, but exhaust first.

I remember the aeroturbine muffler having some sort of directions that suggested at least a foot of straight pipe should be present before and after the muffler to reduce turbulence. It might be applicable to your situation, but our stock system doesn't have much room between the Y and resonator if I recall. Maybe more for sound reduction than power.

I found them at Jegs. It was $12 for shipping though.

Why did you go with the Doug Thorley's over the JBA shorties? I'm looking at those two also. Unfortunately, I bought the JBA long tubes, but after talking to a couple of muffler shops about hooking up the cats, I found out that Colorado went to the California emissions crap this year. They won't touch them and it looks like I can't get away with long tubes, so JBA or DT shorties.

@dinosaur thx for the link. Are the “Taylor” gaskets the same as the “Percy”?

my buddy is a former Toyota tech and he recommended the thorleys over the jba’s. Not sure why. But he does all my work for me and I trust his word haha.

I believe they are the same. I googled Percy/Taylor header gaskets and multiple places came up. Then called the shops for the specific one needed for my truck

You know, glad I read this again. After the new Y pipe went in, I get a little bit of rattle when I punch it in lower speeds. Under 35mph. After that, she’s a lot smoother.

Like Voss said, I think Taylor/Percy are the same. One thing is I noticed that you have a 2006, so the gaskets that I linked may not work for you, with the SAIS.

Hate to thread jack but take these back if you can and get OEM (would be my preference). Never had good luck with MOOG on any of my trucks, on the tundra the outer TRE bolt was so soft (pot metal) I couldnt even torque the nut off before the threads deformed. If you are set on using them re-use your OEM TRE bolt that attaches it to the knuckle.

Great feedback on the headers! I also noticed a gain with my Doug Thorleys, funny thing is I thought I had an exhuast leak which is why I did them, come to find out that it was the firewall steering boot that disintegrated that was letting the noise in. Oh well, got headers out of it!
