LED hyper flash problem

I know I’m connected to the right wires because I had retros hooked up before which used an led strip, and the same resistors fixed the hyperflash for those. I’ll try again tonight. The resistors are 6ohm.

 

If the retros used LED strips for the turn signal and this was the only LED in the turn signal circuit (considering front and back) on each side, then 6 ohms is appropriate. If this LED strip was the turn signal for the front and there is another LED in the turn signal in the back, then 3 ohms is appropriate. There may be some characteristic of the switchback that is different from the retro causing the issue or a connection issue.

 

Okay. Call me crazy. But take the 6 ohm you have in out. If for some reason the cheepy Amazon lights have a 6 ohm load and you have a 6 ohm resistor and a normal bulb. The circuit impedance is 2 ohms and your hyper flash condition would be because of too low resistance

Sorry dude. I sold the retros and went with 2018 LED headlights.

The problem never went away and left me stumped since it worked fine with the led strip switchback but not the bulb. :shrug:

 

Ok so I'm new to changing light bulbs. I've tried to different sets of LED turn signals. I have the load resistors attached. They seem to work fine when my headlights are off, but the minute I turn my headlights on I get a hyperflash. 2012 CM. Any ideas what could be causing this?

My Wife's 2004 Sequoia has hyperflash problems with the LEDS i installed.
Is there an inline resistor available?

I found my 09 Tundra for all 4 turn signal bulbs switched to LED is if you solder In 0.15 ohm resistors in place of the metal bars in the flasher relay you get no hyper flash and no need to use load resistors. If you do this mod when soldering in the resistors leave about inch of the leads above the board. Here is link to the resistors I used.

Did you have any success resolving this issue? I have the same issue with my truck.

 

The vled switchback harness is tricky. There is a specific way you need to connect it. It seems intuitive but it’s not. Check the wiring diagram on the vled site... I had this problem and when I called vled they sent me the wiring diagram and it worked perfect.

 

I just purchased the 2019 trd pro led headlights is it 7443 now for the front turns do I need the ck or no

 

So pretty much what your saying is, if you have LED bulbs on both the front and rear, then you need 3ohm resistors, otherwise 6ohm resistors?

 

Also, "rear" refers to LED brake lights or reverse lights?

I’m wondering also ..read the entire thread but it’s like in language I dont understand. I have AlphaRex front & rear Aftermarket lights. Now I have the annoying hyper flash problem. Obviously I now need resistors...so the 3 or 6? Can someone post a link of them?

Alright so I got resistors now that Alpha Rex company set. Nooooow to install in tail lights which colored wires in rear am I tapping into?! Anyone?!

 

I realize this is old. But I did try this on my 2014 and it worked like a charm.

 

i do have a platinum so the front signal does not function as a running light. I don’t know if that will make a difference or not.

 

Have either of you hooked up to a trailer to see what happens? I’m interested to know if the extra load from trailer bulbs will cause some sort of an issue.

Thanks for the quick response! I like the idea of using this method instead of the load resistors only because I don’t like cutting into the factory wiring if I can avoid it.

The lights in your trailer, are they LED or incandescent bulbs?

 

That’s the same reason I did it.

it has incandescent bulbs. It shouldn't make a difference. I don’t think your truck checks trailer turn signal load like it does for turn signals on the truck.

I went to do this mod today but the 2021 doesn’t have this flasher relay. I tried 6ohm 50W load resistors which weren’t enough for 2 LED replacement lights. I would still get hyperflash. I’ve ordered some 3ohm 50W load resistors to try out as it said on the VLED’s site that I’d need 3ohm resistors for multiple LED lights.

 

Maybe the flasher relay is different in the models that come with factory LED headlights. It must have a flasher relay somewhere though. If you turn the signals on you could try and locate where the clicking noise comes from, that would be the relay.

 

It’s computer controlled by the BCM I think, you can hear the noise from that area but I don’t think there’s any relay or module. You can tell this because if you put the flasher stalk in the down or up position and press the start button twice, the first several seconds of flashing is completely silent in the cab while the ignition beeping is occurring. It only starts making an audible ticking sound once all the ignition beeping has stopped. If it were controlled by a mechanical or thermal flasher relay, it would make the noise all the time. The noise is definitely coming from that same area, but there’s no module to be found.
