OEM antenna replacement for Range extender?

Any one replace there OEM radio antenna for Cell booster antenna? I'm pondering at the idea it seems every one I see people mount it to the roof rack an don't use any of the extensions for the antenna. I for one don't use nor listen to radio I just use streaming services or downloads. So a radio antenna is kinda not needed was thinking at one point of getting a bullet antenna for looks but the thought of repurposing the hole and mounting area kinda has me giddy.

 

Me too. I replaced the antenna with a "stubby", (don't know about cell phone boosters etc), so no need to remove antenna when going through the car wash.....

 

I have a stubby antenna too. I ran my cell booster antenna up through the 3rd brake light and it’s mounted magnetically on the roof.

 

Where did you buy the stubby antenna? I replaced my OEM radio with a BOSS head unit, the original antenna is plugged in but it seems like the reception is worse.

 

I think the thing to do is get a stubby for the FM/AM antenna whether you use it or not and mount a range extender antenna as high as you can which is where it should work best anyway.
It sort of defeats the purpose of the range extender to not get that one as high and away from other metal as possible.

 

If your reception is worse with the long antenna the stubby sure is not going to help that.
I wonder if the antenna is connected solidly to the new radio or maybe the new radio just sucks for reception?
