I had a factory 2 tone Dodge Ram D50 long ago. Black and "used to be bronze", think a Duracell battery that sat in the sun for 15 years.

The only way to avoid being someone's pawn is to retire. Someone always owns you, whether it's the customer, the board, citizens of the USA, or a single idiot.

Oddly, the crimping stuff I'm doing on the side has the most freedom I've ever experienced. It's probably pleasant precisely because I limit my target customers to enthusiasts. But that's also the reason why it's not actually a viable business.

Side job in the corner of pain! Tight squeeze for everything involved. The new compressor had screw on terminals instead of stakon terminals. Luckily there was a homies in the same shopping center to get ring terminals. 7CF32CFF-4D8F-41D4-B64F-C85D844B71D9.jpg 713BFA91-E2A0-476E-A78D-F448BB4E6347.jpg BB517CBF-A36A-41B2-9F50-68712C21A45A.jpg 84537CC9-D52D-4D72-BB71-DA05F30F3FA2.jpg

I agree with this @bmf4069. Change like that is always scary. Give it some time and see how you feel. It sounds like you left your job on great terms so I'm sure you can always return if you absolutely have to.

First thing you need to understand: Humans are naturally averted to change. We hate changes, ESPECIALLY when things feel familiar and even remotely comfortable. The thing about it is, change is when growth happens. Most humans don't ask to grow, though. Growing can hurt, nobody likes hurt. Everything you're feeling is normal.

Shit might be frustrating for the next 6-12 months. You may need to change in order to adapt. But you'll eventually settle into a new routine, and may find after growing, you're happier with how you've grown. And if not, it definitely ain't gonna hurt to move, and you'll move. Hell, you might even move back to your old gig, with more opportunity, more money, you never know.

I think part of your issue right now is your emotional attachment, either to how you've been living and working the last decade, the people you work with. You're not leaving them in a bind. They put you in this bind by making you do shit you didn't personally want to do. Not trying to tell you what to do, but would advise you to flip your perspective on that one thing to help you better focus on the real catalyst for this change you're going through....

No stepside, but here's mine, sold about a year before I got my Tundra, also '98, fully loaded, same color combo? Plastic dash in these damn things sucked f'n balls. 12"x12" hole above the radio. Edit: Actually everything plastic in this truck sucked balls. Damn near everything snapped. When I re-did the headliner, each piece I had to remove broke or cracked in places, the actual part, not the plastic connectors. The entire 80s and 90s were a boon for plastics problems for Chevy and Ford if you live in the SE USA. And there was a huge flaw in the cowl, cabin air intake box that sits above the blower motor had a foam gasket that would disintegrate, leaving the floarboard to get soaked, but there was no easy fix for it like our 1st gens, which have a similar issue. When the hell will manufacturers learn not to put put the air intake facing upward?

Had mine for about 18 months. Bought it, overhauled it, realized what a pain in the ass it'd be to replace the dash, got tired of the damn cowl water leak, ditched it for more than I bought it.

Got back from the Outer Banks last night. The drive takes around 9.5 hours and I averaged 17.2 MPG which is pretty good given how much crap I was hauling. This is a great place to visit but there is so much work and planning required it isn't the most relaxing. I'm not sure I could do it a 3rd time. I'm still amazed there are places left like this which haven't been ruined by tourists. The closest camper wasn't even visible. It really does feel like you're on a deserted island at times.

We did have a good time and the dogs seemed to enjoy it. Both our dogs are getting older and one is in stage 4 kidney failure so this is likely our last adventure with him. My wife and I were both thankful for the time spent with him. Our 12 year old Husky became obsessed with the crabs and eventually caught and decapitated one. She looked unapologetic.

    Looks like a awesome trip!
What is so stressful about the trip? The permits and planning?

The permit is easy. The planning is a lot. It's an island with no stores so if you forget something you're SOL. Then I was constantly having to adjust the solar to try and keep the Jackery and fridge fed and charged. I ran the truck battery some but didn't want to kill it. That fridge seemed a lot less efficient this trip. We don't have a road shower so by the 3rd day we started to feel nasty especially when trying to sleep on things that are covered in sand. No matter how hard we tried the tent was a sand trap. It was also a giant game of Tetris to pack the truck with that much stuff while leaving half the bed for the dogs. Firewood burns fast on the beach so we had to bring a LOT and that takes up a ton of space. It's just a ton of work to make sure it goes smooth.

Here is a question I've been meaning to ask. When we were working on JPink's DC we noticed that when we jacked up the rear axle, we could spin the tires freely even when it was in park. Neither @Tundra2 or myself could understand how this is possible. When I'm adjusting my rear drums I have to make sure my truck is in neutral to spin the tires.

Is there something unique to 2WD DC's? I can't understand how his truck doesn't roll away when in park.

The wheels will roll freely when both rears are jacked up because of the open differential. One wheel will spin forwards, the other backwards, with the drive shaft stationary.
