'17 SR5 crewmax, 3 knob HVAC:

When HVAC controls are turned to full heat and console/floor vent, the controls will override to windshield vents with very little flow coming from console/floor vents. When I turn the heat to straight up halfway, full flow to console/floor as selected. Turn only heat up a little bit, and I will hear vents redirecting flow back to the windshield?

What gives?! It seems the HVAC controls are set to not allow anything over middle temp selection to the console/floor vents. If anything over middle temp is selected, the controls force flow to the windshield?

recent update: when max AC (recirc selected) and vent knob on console only, i get a mixed flow between console and windshield vent!

I'm pissed because i should have taken this in for warrantly before my 3/36, but i didnt want to be that annoying guy. now im at 4/42 and probably wont be able to get any warranty...

 

I would still try for the warranty. Just explain that it’s been happening for awhile. You might get them to fix it.
For the repair Techstream would be required. Check for codes and if none are found there is an option in Techstream that allows you to “home” all the HVAC door actuators.

Yes sir. Easy to do but read codes first and correct any issues. You could try and disconnect the battery overnight. I’m not sure if that would cause the module to home the actuators, I’ve never done it that way but no harm in trying.

Pick your dongle carefully. Many won’t give you full access to the modules.

I use this dongle. It’s the same one OV tuning uses and available on obdii365.com and is around $30. The Mini VCI won’t give you full access.

Curious....what changed from a year ago when you initially recommended and then pulled recommnedation ? Have had a Mini VCI for a few years and it's held up well but always looking for better suggestions if they exist !

I have both but the mini VCI was inconsistent in providing all the data. It was very much a hit and miss. The Openport is very reliable and is also the one OVtune uses in their programming.

 

Pull the code using Techstream and go from there.

There are clones of the Openport that are junk. They work perfect for about a month then go dead. The one I bought from obdii365.com has been going strong for more than a year.

 

Do you know if I should worry about this? Its behind the harmonic balancer 1uzfe.. doesn't appear to leak anything, then again the pan is caked..

 

Honestly… no. It shouldn’t hurt anything unless the covers rubbing the pulley. The cracks typically are there if the little sleeve has gone missing from previous timing belt replacements

 

If the leak is antifreeze the water pump is probably leaking and you should deal with it. If the leak is oil and it is just sweating it’s nothing to be concerned about but monitor it. If it’s leaking and forming a drip the timing belt can become contaminated and should be dealt with. The crack in the plastic is from a missing spacer that was left out when the timing belt was changed, as already mentioned. If it was mine I would find the correct spacer and install. The bolt tightening up to the spacer is what keeps the bolt tight. If the bolt falls out the plastic cover could come out and contact with the harmonic balancer. The spacer is cheap, not so cheap for the timing cover.

 

Awesome will look for the spacer... anti-freeze was scattered out by the fan.. that's next on the to-do list.. leaks when its cold..

 

I have a p2714 code and it looks like its a pedel and or throttle body issue. Other than the normal wire/connector/corrosion check issues is there a process to test the two using a vom meter?

 

Are you sure p2714 is a throttle/ pedal actuator code?

I’m glad you read my post before I edited it. The throttle/pedal correlation code means that the voltages on one circuit are not “correlating” to the other. Basically one circuit reads high while the other reads low. As the throttle is depressed the the voltage on on circuit drops and the other climbs and they end up the exact opposite when full throttle. Clean the connectors I previously mentioned then look at doing the Techstream if it doesn’t work.

Do a forum search on Techstream to obtain a free copy. You will need an obd2 dongle. Some won’t work properly but look back a little on this thread and I’ve listed one that works perfect. GL.

At first when backing, warning beeps were In line with objects coming close, now when backing no beeping. I must have turned this option off, but as a newbie I’m at a lost what I turned off.

 

Sorry but I don’t have the parking sensors on my 2020 and don’t recall where the switch is. Have a look in the owners manual. I’m thinkinking it’s under the heater controls.

 

Hi I got the tactrix cable now, but seem to have issues with getting the right driver to work. Using techstream 64bit patched on wind 64bit. The mvci driver fails to install. Or do I just use openport 2.0 driver?

 

Go to the Orange Virus Tuning website and download the software for the openport. That what I have been using since I had his tune for my Tacoma. When you open up Techstream you should see the option for the openport. The MVCI won't work.
