01 4runner wheels with 265/70/16 tires fit?

Seen a lot of combinations on here by can't find this one. Long story short, the wheels and tires that came with 'Ol Gnar Gnar are really old and not in good shape. It's got plenty of other issues but found this set cheap locally with 2018 dated tires and lots of tread. (Much better than my bent wheels, caked in spray paint and 2013 tires).

Question is will they fit without issue? Seeing potential offset differences and the current tires are 245/70/16 whereas the ones I'm looking at are 265/70/16.

Well, I just want to tag this so I can see what the truck looks like if installed because I suspect that'll look f'n awesome on a 1st gen

 

Haha thanks, I'm sure the bolts will line up and it'll look fine, just worried about the taller tires and whatever the difference is in the offsets not fitting.

 

Gen-1 Tundra brake upgrades are popular on Gen-3 4Runners ('96 - 02) which is where those wheels come from. I believe those wheels gave some guys problems when fitting Tundra brake calipers. Sorry I can't be more specifics, I don't have any first hand experience. Check out T4R.com for more specifics.

 

Will likely need some spacers for those tires to clear properly.

 

I believe you got some numbers mixed up. Tires on 4runner wheels are 265/70/16 not the 275/70/16 you stated. A lot of tundras come with the 265/70/16 tires stock on the 'starfish' wheels. The offset of these 4runner wheels might cause an issue but the tire size itself shouldn't. Biggest thing is if they just flat out won't clear your brakes and I can't make any comment on that. Really thought I had seen a pic of these wheels on a tundra but I could be wrong.

 

Thanks, had it right in the title but mixed it up in the post. Going to pass on them in that case, don't want to mess with running spacers, etc.

 

Shame, 275/70/16's on 8" wide wheels are pretty cool combo. Believe that's factory size for Land Cruisers.

 

Agree but the goal was to find a set of wheels and tires for cheap that I could just bolt up. Adding the complexity and cost of swapping them onto the wheels I've got (which are in terrible shape) doesn't really make sense for me

 

You can use 4runner and Tacoma wheels but they have a different offset and sit closer in to the suspension components and frame. May have some rubbing. My not have enough to bother you. Many will run a wheel spacer to fix the backspacing difference.

Let's see 1st gen with Toyota Rims

I ran 17" 4runner wheels on my Gen 1 for quite a while. If I recall correctly they were with 245mm wide tires, not 265. see link above.

I have those 4runner wheels on my Sequoia and had no problems with fitting. No spacers or anything. I have the 13we calipers though so maybe the 13wl don't fit.

Still on th hunt for a decent set of used wheels, any chance there's a list somewhere of what factory wheels will fit? Looking at this set of 4runner wheels and not sure they'll fit, hoping someone here may know.

 

Seems like maybe either wheel listed in this thread will work on your earlier 1st gen. As long as it has 13we not 13wl calipers.

Sorry but not seeing anything in that thread about wheels or calipers, can you clarify?

 

Earlier trucks only came with 13we (as far as I know) this truck has the wheels you originally posted about. I know what they say about assuming but, assuming this truck has stock brakes which are 13we and your truck also has 13we then it seems as if original wheels you posted would fit and most likely the wheels you just posted about earlier.

 

Which calipers do you have? Those wheels should fit, but will the seller just let you test fit one wheel? At least where I'm at 4runners rims are dirt cheap and plentiful.

 

Ya these are pretty cheap, reason I was looking at them and I'd guess he would. Just not really excited to be dropping a wheel away from home...given every time I pull anything off this truck it's usually an ordeal that involves needing a tow truck

 

Do you have the larger WL calipers? If so, I'd be interested to know if those wheels fit. These are my favorite OEM Toyota wheels for 2000's vintage Tundra and Tacoma trucks. To me there's just something about them that looks right on the trucks. Oddly, I never liked them on 4Runners -- which I think is the only vehicle on which they were available. I've been hunting for a set, but everything I've found has been in poor shape.

 

So I scored these tonight for $300 and they're a little bigger than I wanted being 17" but they came with tires that look almost new and have 2018 date codes and they were on a Tundra so I know they fit. They need to be repainted so I've got some work to do on them but seems one is missing a center cap so hoping someone knows what model they are or what center cap I need to replace it with. Thanks in advance.

 

Wait - you're putting these on a working vehicle? They look like the metal has been heavily compromised and the wheel could snap in half at any moment. Or am I missing something?

 

The finish is peeling a bit but they look to be fine otherwise, pretty par for the course for anything in the northeast. Just need to sand them down and repaint was the plan but needed to know what to search for to find a spare center cap as they came missing one.
