What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Without long travel you are gonna look real stupid with narrow suspension and wide glass. Also Glass is a lot of work to fit and make look nice so know that going in. Its definitly more aimed at those of us hanging it off Tube work than factory body mounts. Not impossible but lot of work, Something like that 1 piece would require custom fab though.

 

What condition are the motor mounts in, do you know? Specifically the trans mount.

 

It seems I have stumped even the parts guys at McGeorge. I called them yesterday and explained neither hose they sent me have matched the original. He did say that a vacuum hose is a vacuum hose meaning if it fits, it should be fine. Maybe he's right. They have no other part numbers to try.

 

I'm not sure. I'm going to check them out when I pull the truck in the garage for the rotor job.

How did you take the mirror caps off or did you just spray it on the truck?

 

mirror caps are held in by 5 or 6 little clips behind the mirror glass. without taking the glass off, they’re almost impossible to get out without breaking

 

Alrighty, so how do you take the glass out? Pull on it?

 

I'm really happy with how my mirrors turned out after spray painting them. Plasti-Dip looked good for a year or so but I went with a more permanent approach this time. Technically I sprayed right over the old Plasti-Dip so I could possibly return to chrome if I wanted to.

That looks great! I was thinking of line-Xing the caps but this might be a better option.

Does it need to be shaped in a peculiar way? Any sharp turns or angles a straight piece can't do? If not I'd say fuck it and get a piece longer than what you think you'll need at the zone.

 

Ya, ive always broken the glass though. How I did it is moving the mirror and getting all clips besides the bottom and sacrificing those by breaking them. Ive never put the same caps back in though, Ive always replaced them so it didnt matter for me

 

I should have mentioned that I used Rust-Oleum truck bed coating.

 

No weird bends. It just has to flare at the end which it seems to. Maybe I'll just roll with it!

 

Exactly how I've done it twice.

First time I did reuse them after painting. @2006Tundra get a few nickels handy when you pop your caps off. I found it helpful to move the mirror around, get a tool in there to push the tab, put a nickel between the cap and the housing to prevent it from snapping back in when you move to the next. Bottom ones I gave up on, one on each side busted. They still held in fine.

 

Doing rotors and pads today. Running into a problem though. When I get the pads in, the rotor rubs on the pads. Normal?

Rotors and pads are OEM from the dealership.

 

Rubbing is normal, is it hanging up or just rubbing?

 

Just rubbing. I can rotate the rotor without much resistance.

Don’t take the glass out. I use a pick tool and can access 5/6 of the clips just from moving the glass around. You need to keep constant pressure on the caps while releasing the clips.

Some goodies showed up for the truck, a mount for the scan gauge, and some wheel well splash guards from ARK, they are localish

It’s perfect for me… doesn’t hinder much sight from the window, but I can see my temps without taking my eyes off the road

Since I'm buying it seems, are their hood struts for 3rd gen Taco OK? I am tired of prying my hood open.

Rotors and pads are done. Still chasing that vibration. I put the winter tires on and went for a drive. Vibration seemed a little less. Next step is to get my tires balanced I guess. Of course while I was putting the summer tires back on I stripped a lug nut and buggered the first couple threads on the stud. So fuck me. Calling tire shop tomorrow to hopefully get the truck in for that and the balancing.
