    HitchPod install complete!

Also set up a custom wiring harness that when the truck goes into reverse the license plate lights go out and the HitchPod turns on. NO MORE BACKUP CAMERA GLARE! :bananadance::dancingbacon:

That wiring harness sounds intriguing. Is more information on it available?

    Chrome mirror caps SWAPPED.

INSTALL NOTE: The Sparks video recommends starting on the outside edge. I found that going from the inside lower corner against the truck was far easier to work the removal tool in. Added benefit - If you slip off you won't be marring up anything that's readily visible

Diode Dynamics SS42 light bar INSTALLED - Driving pattern is admittedly not the ideal pattern to go down low, but I'll be swapping lenses anyway

No glamour shots at the moment, but they'll come eventually!

I was eyeing it up for the sale going on this weekend, but we're going up north for truck races this weekend, and I'd rather have the spendong cash for that. How'd the mouthing go?

Side note - Frame studs WILL NOT allow for 2 Coachbuilder bumper shims PLUS the DD light bar. Just a lot of add'l metal that Toyota did not anticipate

Have my sights set on suspension install next week!
    • Elka Remote Resi F/R
    • Coachbuilder Shackles
    • SPC UCAs
    • FN BFD 18" Wheels
    • Falken Wildpeak Tires
My back and hands are already aching in anticipation as I will be doing the work from the floor with jacks and not with a lift! First world problems. :annoyed:

I'll see what kind of clearance issues I run into in the front bumper area and make a game-plan from there. I MAY get my cab mount chop done this weekend.

Looks like you quoted weird, but I pulled out what you were after!

Mounting went fine. I actually filmed the entire thing so that'll come out on the Youtubes here eventually! Clearance was tight getting the nuts loose so I was lying on the ground for a bit to get them out. I wasn't caught off guard with any surprises aside form the lower plastic grille piece was NOT interested in coming out. Had to get a little mean with it.

    INSTALL NOTES -
    • Even if you have a brand new truck USE PB BLASTER! One of the leaf spring sleeves wanted nothing to do with being out. Air hammer, sawzall, heat... It successfully fought off all of it lol. Atop that the bushing press that I had did not have the jaw width to be able to accept both the leaf spring AND the bushing. I had to make a receiving sleeve out of some steel pipe that was the exact size of the bushing to allow for the press to get over both pieces. This whole process took some time.
    • UCAs were surprisingly simple to install. On this Tundra (unlike my Tacoma) I didn't have to bend any metal or uninstall any big bits. Unclipped a couple of wiring harnesses to make some room for the bolt head, but that was all.
    • I planned to install the Coachbuilder shim on the driver's side, but there's a catch. The Elka shocks use a different thread bolt than ADS, King, Fox, etc so the optional bolt kit that I purchased from CB did not work. I had to install the shocks as delivered. I'll let everything settle and then see how much I need to lift, and where.
    • Coachbuilder shackles need to be installed with the bolt going from inside to outside. I went the opposite way and the tolerances are tight enough where the stock spare won't go back under the truck! Well not without the shackles impacting it upon articulation... I'll spin the lower bolts around one of these days here to get the spare back under.
    • Elka seems to have addressed the front coilover problem with the reservoir hose brought forth by @jberry813. The tubing goes down quite a bit further before it turns the corner towards where the resi mounts up.
    • I have a LOT of trimming left to do to be able to fully articulate the new wheel/tire setup. I'll see if I can salvage the front mud flap, but odds are not good! The truck is drivable, but I'll need to tackle that eventually here.
    • In order for the front coilovers to fully seat top and bottom I had to cut a small section of LCA out. The section I cut out was approx 3"x3/4". Can post pics if necessary. Picked up a paint pen to seal back up the bare metal that I revealed.
    DRIVING IMPRESSIONS -
    • Highway - Surprisingly similar to stock. The truck feels very planted (I left the sway bar on), and does not track hardly at all. 80mph cruising is stable.
    • Off-Road - Haven't had a chance to really shake it out yet, but the other day I went and checked out some property that had dirt road for about 5 miles. I pushed the truck pretty good and am quite pleased thus far. I hammered through some washboard sections that would normally kick your fillings out, and it felt BUTTERY. Planted and stable. There's plenty of time to put this pig through the paces off road, but she's real solid even right now.
    • Adjustments - I have not yet even touched the adjusters. I want to get a good feel for how the truck responds in different situations. It's a land leviathan compared to my Tacoma so it just does things differently. I let Elka take their best guess on it for now.
My press tool that I made... :D

I'll be covering them up with Bushwacker color-matched flares. This Tundra has the most delicate paint I have ever seen so I can't run these baddies sticking out forever. My PPF film should be here this week sometime and I'll wrap up the body underneath the flares to hopefully salvage it a bit.

Just wait for the fun when you go to put that S8 in the bulge. I installed mine a little different and reinstalled the screen portion of the insert.

It looks better than having the big gap at the front and I couldn't get the height centered in the opening until I pushed the bar back.

Without the screen there is a pretty large gap between the front edge of the bar and the bottom of the bulge. I couldn't get the bar centered. I took the bulge on and off probably 50 times lol. If you go the screen route, I have a few tips that will make life alot easier.

I wouldn’t have thought those wheels would look that good, but they do. Didn’t know FN made those, solid choice.
