Forgive me if I missed mention of it but while the motor is out I would strongly consider replacing the alt, starter and oil pump since they are much more easily accessed at this time. At minimum the starter and oil pump.

I’m guessing here but hopeful I got these right?

Starter (EDITED): 28100-50100-84 $108.68 (McGeorge) or $112.70 (Decatur)
Oil pump: 15100-50050 $290.75 (McGeorge) or $303.97 (Decatur)

I’m thinking the starter would be a good to replace normal wear item but unsure about the oil pump. Is that something worth preemptively replacing without any symptoms of trouble?

    Try parts.mcgeorgetoyota.com:

    https://parts.mcgeorgetoyota.com/oem-parts/toyota-engine-oil-pump-1510050050

    https://parts.mcgeorgetoyota.com/oem-parts/toyota-starter-motor-281005010084?c=cT0yODEwMC01MDEwMA==

Also, check your p/n's against the VIN...the starter comes up wrong

I asked about the oil pump a few times in the past but it didn't seem to be an issue. I've never seen anyone replace theirs on here but it does seem like a good idea for a truck with 300k miles. I read a few reports on the Tacoma forum about oil pumps failing and taking the engine with them. Doesn't seem very common though.

Is insurance worth having if you've never had an accident?

I would have thought the engine was mounted to the frame, not the cab. In my mind the cab, fenders, hood, radiator support, bumpers and bed all have to come off. Then you have a rolling chassis with engine, trans and fuel tank attached. Then The parts would be transferred from old frame to new frame. Then body parts and and bumpers placed onto new frame.

The way most dealers do it is engine support to keep the engine in the cab. Chain to hold the trans end. Works faster because all the wiring and stuff can be left alone. A/c too

If that turns out to be the case it would obviously force me to rethink. If it turns out the way @NickB_01TRD job was done I would follow through with the items I mentioned, but that's just me.

I'm working on the assumption of a voluntary, mutually beneficial transaction, so that misses the point. But I'm OK with your scenario. ;)

If they pull the engine all the way out like the pic showed, show up that day and put a cleaning on it. Hop the fence, steal the cart its sitting on and find a waterhose. Spray it with degreaser while running for the hose.

If i was having a frame swapped, 65% of my time and effort would be towards cleaning and inspecting. Camp in the bed in the service bay kinda hoverhands.

bring some stiff bristled brushes, a spray bottle or two of cleaner. And a bag of rags.

Lots of ideas have been discussed here. Decided to just go down the Toyota list first. Knock out one category at a time.

In my mcgeorge-fu search I've found all the left side body mounts, body mount sleeves, bolts, and everything circled in this picture below.
    Screenshot_20210906-075717_Chrome.jpg

Here is a link to the page if anyone else wants to help me confirm.

The parts listed on that page all say front left, center left, and rear left, etc... I'm assuming that these are universal like sway bar links. Never seen a Left/Right designation on sway links!

My mcgeorge-fu is weak this AM. At the time of this post, I've only got the engine mounts, and te transmission mounts in my cart at McGeorge.

I believe you got it correct. It is slightly confusing that they designate a left but not a right. If in doubt though, ask them to verify.

Your diagram screenshot is much more clear than mine! Looks like @jpink 's steering rack bushings. Scary! But yes, looks to be very two piece like...

I've sent an email to Mcgeorge staff. Thank you for reminding me about rusty Wallace also. Should really compare prices...

While I have expressed positives in past about McGeorge, I’ll be trying Decatur Toyota Alybamy next time, since they are closer to me and offer free shipping. While not McGeorge’s fault, for some reason FedEx can’t get correct route from VA to my neck of the woods in lower middle TN….last 3 times….VA, NC, Nashville TN, Olive Branch MS, back to Humbolt Tn, down to me….as much as 4 days late from initial posted schedule !

shorter story….look at places closer to you if it works

Just FYI, you can get free shipping from McGeorge too. That said, I placed an order from them a week ago that still hasn't shipped. Not thrilled about that. I may give Decatur a shot.

If you order through Toyota and select McGeorge as the servicing dealer, they still have the FREESHIP code.

true but when comparing prices last three times, straight from McGeorge were somewhat cheaper even with $16 shipping from McGeorge…damn you do, damn you don’t

There are in fact TWO McGeorge Toyata parts sites...one honors the FREESHIP code (toyotaonlineparts.mcgeorgetoyota.com), and of course the unit prices are a couple bucks higher, and the other site (parts.mcgeorgetoyota.com) which has the lowest prices. Several times I've run the same parts list through both, and only one time did it pay to get the FREESHIP. Your mileage may vary...

I'm three orders deep w/Serra Decatur Alabama Toyota, and every time, they've shipped it out next business day and I've had it within 48-72 hours.

You'll save a couple percent with McGeorge, You'll save at least 10-15% using either McGeorge or Serra of Decatur AL over walk-in at your local stealership. But sounds like the service may not be as good for everyone at McGeorge, despite the better price.

I'd rather pay a couple extra $$ and get the faster, better svc. Just my 2¢.

If I really, really need it fast, I'll just order for local pickup at a dealership 30min away. I save about 5% less and pay tax every time, but when you need it now, you need it now.

My nearest dealer that participates in the pick up program is where I dropped the truck off for the frame. That's 2 hours from me. Lol

I'll look at Decatur, and see about both McGeorge websites?

You don't have to pick up in person through the program. I use the program and select McGeorge. Sounds like it's cheaper to just order direct though.
