Project Double Gnar : P0441 and some missing hoses

The overhead pic @Sirfive posted in post # 35 shows how it should be, which has actually been posted more than once and even the FSM schematic is showing the same. I know it’s frustrating and all but if things are still not running good, it won’t be because those few vac lines.

 

Ok and to me I think mine currently matches that, do you agree? Concerned because that smaller hose closer to the front of the truck really doesn't want to fit over that outlet.

What I don't agree with or perhaps don't quite understand how hooking those vac lines the right way caused this massive fuel leak.

 

Taking a stab in the dark, someone else mentioned doing this wrong pressurized the fuel tank, which was probably more than enough to pop an old hose on that end.

 

Took a look at mine and you can see it in @Sirfive pic also, the original hose comes somewhat belled on that end or once on, it definitely should not leak

 

Sorry but none of that made any sense. What is 'bellied'? And no idea which hose you're talking about.

 

Belled means it's bigger on one end, like the belled pipe below.

The one "closer to the front of the truck" that you were concerned about

 

Appreciate that, and mine seems to be one size all the way through, is it getting "bellied" just the result of fitting it on and it being a tight fit? Or is the end supposed to be larger?

 

Ok so I've taken it around the neighborhood a few times, and was feeling brave so I went to the gas station farther away ahead of th hurricane last week and made it there & back without issue (10 miles each way). So cause I hadn't driven it in maybe a week I took it to the store tonight, maybe 5 miles away, and popped a CEL on the way back. Codes (P0441 & P0446) are both for EVAP and I'm about at my wits end here. Any idea on what the hell is wrong with it?

*Edit - Confirmed none of the hoses detached.
*Edit 2 - Replaced the gas cap last week and just confirmed it was plenty tight

Given it's a 2000 that rules out a charcoal canister near the fuel tank right?

 

Any ideas what to check or replace next?

 

Time for a shop to smoke test maybe?

 

Ya kinda where I was leaning, but was hoping there may just be something in the system I can replace instead. Figure the cost of labor/diag is gonna be more than the cost of parts if I can just do it myself.

 

Possibly so. You just need to find the leak in the system. Could even be cheaper than expected or way more expensive if you need a gas tank.

Call around and ask for prices to smoke test?

 

Got a quote for a gas tank ($800) after it was leaking fuel everywhere cause the hose popped off, though they said to wait until it was actively leaking to bother. I was thinking one of the control units were worth replacing first?

Ya, lucky indeed. And not even the first time I've driven a truck leaking gas a good distance....

Anywell, it made it a few trips this weekend and it's got an appointment next Thursday to get diagnosed, likely a smoke test, etc. Hoping it's not too bad coastwise.

 

Update: smoke test back, needs a charcoal canister......$530 all done..... Super excited....
