Toyota batteries are hot piles of garbage, so I wouldn’t be surprised if you have a dead cell. Jump it tomorrow and take it to the dealership to get a new one under warranty.

On my 08 I had about the same experience as you... I got stranded in H town and luckily for me the auto parts store came to me with a new battery... as we were pulling out the old one discovered the "J" bolt/ clamp that secures the center section across battery was extremely over tightened... after getting my 19 that was the first thing i looked at and damn if it wasn't too tight... apparently they use a pneumatic wrench thats set to an absurd torque... I would advise everyone to look at the damn battery cause if it's not cracked yet, it will be... setting up for extreme corrosion on cables/posts.

Take the battery to get tested and see if it will hold a charge, then again, new truck, under warranty, if you have a dealer close by might as well just take it to them instead.

Mine lasted 1 1/2 years. The OEM batteries are junk. I went to Batteries Plus and got the Northstar X2 AGM battery. It’s been 2 trouble-free years now.

I would have taken it to the dealer and have it covered under warranty, but I didn’t want to waste my time for them take the car for a day, test the battery, order a new one, etc. only for the replacement battery to leave me stranded somewhere again later on.

It was a 30 min trip to Batteries Plus and I was done.

I had it jumped and it started right up. Drove for 30 min. around town and parked it.
Pushed the start button and it started like nothing had happened.
I have no aftermarket electronics on it but I do have the factory remote start.
I have all the electrical testing equipment I could use at home so in the morning I'll test for voltage.
There should be no reason for a new car battery to not last a week since last drive.
    Will keep you posted.

Only 3000 miles in 9 months means pretty low charging time, and all modern vehicles have some constant load on the battery when parked, pretty minimal, but constant. Lots of short trips too? That’s another bad one.

A half-hour drive brought your battery’s state of charge to 25% at best, and that’s with an electron tail wind. ;)

A slow charge (2-5A) overnight, then have the battery load tested.

A battery maintainer or solar charger would be a great idea for a vehicle driven that infrequently.

Well, that's the first time in all the cars I have bought that the battery wouldn't last a week?
There's more to it I'm thinking so I'll dig into the battery itself tomorrow.
I'm betting I have a bad cell and the excessive heat today caused it to fail.

OK, I multi metered the battery running and got 13.5 to 13.7 volts.
Battery alone the best it would show is between 10.7 to 11.3.
    I'm thinking a bad cell.
    I'm calling the dealer now.
Service guy said that with all the electronics in them now you have a constant drain with the computer being on all the time.
They will check the electrical system for me but, he feels it needs to be driven more to support the charging requirement.

The OEM batteries are hot garbage. I had issues with mine as well, including one embarrassing one where my battery died after watching one movie at the drive-in and I had to get jumped. I called Toyota, brought it to the dealership and it tested fine after they charged it. I held my ground that it’s unacceptable that I can’t let the truck sit for a weekend without it dying, or getting really weak. Eventually, they replaced it with one of their TrueStart batteries and an 84 month warranty.

Once you get the battery issue resolved you may want to put a maintenance charger on the vehicle to keep the battery fresh while the vehicle sits unused. Something like a Battery Tender. I keep one on my lawn mower, tractor, and motorcycles during the winter when they are not used often.

I’m a big fan of the CTEK tenders/chargers, they aren’t cheap, but it’ll last, they work very well, and you can buy some with neat features built into the charger (motorcycle, regular battery, reconditioning mode, AGM specific modes, etc)

Okay so in a couple weeks my 2021 which I bought in early May will be parked in my driveway for 11 days without being started. Any preventive measures I should take? I will be driving it about 20 miles as the last trip before it is shut off in my driveway.

My 2016 battery was junk too. Had the dealer replace it and that one lasted about 18 months. Gave up on Toyota batteries…no more issues. Also, keep it on a tender if I know it’s going to sit a while.

    No.

But everyone should own a good booster pack and some sore of volt meter/battery tester, just in case. So if you do come back and it's dead, you can easily boost it yourself.

Anytime I ever left an auto for over a week I always disconnected one terminal. Went overseas traveling for two months once in dead of winter here, got out of airport, hooked up battery, started right up with no problems. Kinda strange to drive again after a few months of not though, especially considering the roads were iced over with freezing rain and snow.

Keeping this rig on a trickle charger is not in the cards as my parking location for the truck is about 100 feet up a slight hill adjacent to our condo.
Driveway is small and holds the wife's Acura. The vintage 2000 Trans Am (immaculate condition) lives in the garage.
The fact that we are talking about trickle chargers for a new car in CA. is total BS, don't you think?

My guess is that you have a sub par battery with some kind of defect. Dead or damaged cell. This isn't terribly uncommon with stock batteries, though many last for many years, many do not. My WRX's batter shit the bed after about a year. Replaced it and never had another problem.

The other possible scenario would be that you are experiencing some kind of parasitic drain. This could be due to tons of things from loose connections, bad wiring, improperly installed aftermarket components, or even rodent damage.

If you can afford to park a fairly new Tundra most of the time, then you can afford to buy a decent battery. Just sayin' WTF!! :boink:
Hell, buy and install a cut off too, end of problem.
