I've been having some bad and puzzling vibrations the last month or so. Only happens during acceleration, gets bad at about 20 MPH...then goes away...then gets bad again at 50-60, then goes almost away at higher speeds....goes away completely when I let off the gas.

    I replaced a badly worn out tie-rod end....little change.

I replaced my warped brake calipers, and CV axles....no change.

I removed the front leveling blocks....not change.

I replaced my completely torn out center bearing....little change.

    I replaced the rear U joint.......vibration GONE!

And when I got the joint out, I could tell that the two bearings that still had a little grease in them where just fine...and the two that had gone dry where trashed with broken needle bearings and rust everywhere.

I should have greased the driveline first thing when I bought the truck but I kept forgetting. It was something I always did every six months on my old 94 toyota but I was out of grease...etc etc.

But it really does matter, and a dry rusted U joint will seriously ruin your ride and make you wonder what is going on.

In-fact...I'm still out of grease for my gun.....any recommendations for driveline grease? I used white lithium for my old truck....but the left in the rear sliding section of the driveline was pink and translucent...

Thanks for the reminder. I'm definitely a lazy sod when it comes to preventative greasing. Think I'll try the Superlube - mainly because of the name.o_O

Good to know that for once I didn't step in a pile of ...M&Ms.

So your sudden project is to lube your truck, while my sudden project is to remove the anti-seize from my spark plugs. Your road is easier, if you have a lift that is.

I just finished flushing my wife's heater in her Expedition. Ford has these quick disconnects on the heater hoses that are everything but quick disconnects. Took two days of off and on struggling to finally get them disconnected. Scrapped and bloody arms and knuckles later, I thought I'd earned a break. Nope, I've got goo on my plugs that I have to clean off. Seriously, my horses required less from me. Well, except money - horses are truly expensive. And off topic...again.

Would you think a tampon would work to remove the goo from the spark plug hole's threads?:eek2:

My burly old 1/2" drill is going to have issues with this, I'm sure. This might be video worthy! Chucked tampon swinging away like a drunk on a bucking horse.

I've always done this with every oil change. Coming from a 4th gen 4Runner, the driveline likes to clunk at stops if its not properly lubed up. Just did it out of habit and moved the service over to the Tundra.

Mobil1 red just ran out last week finally after a couple years and picked up a tube of the Shell Rotella HD grease for $2.50 on sale.

So, does my 2002 not have zerks because it’s RWD?
Any pointers on how to grease her up? Do I need a needle?

1/2 of my driveline zerk fittings are frozen. Not sure if I should hit it with a torch or something else.

So do I just get as much grease as I can around my U joints and carrier bearing anyway?

    Is this true? I thought 2WD had 5, and 4WD had 8? I must've read som'n funny somewhere.

Can't tell you how smooth my truck is driving after greasing everything up several days ago. I didn't realize I was getting little vibrations here or there. Feel like I'm sliding across hot butter in a nonstick pan while driving now.

    Nope.

You'd have to remove them altogether to add grease. But they are considered non-serviceable, just replace if they go bad.

Thanks. So far so good. Carrier bearing bushing has a minimal tear / wear but no vibes or noises.
