these are the correct u joints. Identical to the oem ones I pulled out. 2wd have different u joints than the 4x4s. I made sure to get the 4x4 joints

Well if you Happen through Portland bring it with you and we can bend it. There are no shortage of people with Benders down there though thats for sure. I probably used half dozen peoples when I was in San Diego.

Yeah I don’t blame you. I didn’t want to say anything negative but we’ve all heard what’s going on there. It’s a shame. Such a cool place, lots of small businesses providing amazing food and beer. I’m glad I was there before things got out of hand.

no vibs on take off leave me to believe u joints and angles arent the issue but the slip yoke slop might be. with the suspension compressed the slop all but goes away

 

Could be… but bad ujoints aren’t necessarily going to cause a vibration on take off. Even an out of balance driveshaft may not cause a vibration on takeoff. Did you get your shake after the work was done?

When i left Portland was still OK but SD was getting Bad. My parents are native San Diegans even but I knew I couldnt stay at early age. Now Portland is horrible, i for the first time since moving really enjoyed SD when I went to mive my dad a few weeks ago (to Eastern OR as well) for first time since I left

 

San Diego is probably the cleanest and well run big city in the entire state.

 

And being from East County it was even better. Crowds and costs and traffic though....

To stay on topic of the thread.....Today I stripped my carpet. Tomorrow you will see why.

 

After the lift. Which was after the u joints. Spaced the driveshaft to correct angles, no change. Next step is a driveline shop balance it. It’s a weird vibe though. It comes and goes if I’m at 70 consistently long enough

 

I was getting bad though inconsistent vibrations at highway speeds. I had a stuck caliper, vibrations was from the warped rotor.

 

brakes are fine. i do need to do the front diff bushing. but what im dealing with is a rear end vibe for sure.

 

Interesting stuff, keep us posted. Since the vibration happens at high speeds only, from what I’ve learned… it could possibly be a Ujoint(which are new so unlikely) and an out of balance driveshaft. If you haven’t balanced your driveshaft after changing out parts, could just be something as simple as getting it balanced. I tried lowering my center bearing to correct the angle and it didn’t help at all. My issue ended up being an out of balance driveshaft because my slip yoke wasn’t installed in the correct position after being removed for maintenance.

After reading about your front diff bushings, it reminded me of a similar issue I had with my ‘63 Cadi. It would run smooth but once in a while I’d get a vibration. It turned out to be a differential bushing that was causing the vibration but my bad bushing was in the rear. Every now and then the bad bushing would slip and cause the differential and driveshaft to come out of alignment with the transmission and the smooth Cadi would start to vibrate. Once I replaced the bushing, she smoothly sailed the streets again.

It was just that ugly dark brown color, I did inspect the cap it didn’t look too rough. New radiator (denso) from Napa, had to drive to MD to get it so I could replace before the sun got too high today. New cap & thermostat as well. Planning to do fan clutch in the near future before pulling that tandem axle trailer to get my next project (09 Camry). While removing the radiator I moved a small bit of foam aside and found the crack. Buttoned everything back up and inspected trans fluid lines, everything looked a great red color. I’m hoping to do a drain and fill later this evening when it cools off a bit if the war department doesn’t give me the stink eye. Truck made it back home through bumper to bumper traffic for an hour and a half so I’ll call it good until new hoses and fan clutch arrive.

 

Exactly. If the arrows are pointing towards the outside... you definitely have adjustment available to even the cross camber and maybe even bump caster up to 2.6 degrees.
