Gas tank on the right side with exhaust on the left. We figured they moved the tank over to the right, but its confirmed now at least for this model.

Looks that way, weight savings there will be used to increase payload

I wonder if the locker will be backwards compatible? Toyota could make some good money on that one.

The rear pics are pretty much exactly the same as the spy shots posted on TFL Truck back in March.

My big question: is that a steel or composite bed?

The primary issue with that is did Toyota revise the rear end so much that it is not backwards compatible? Toyota probably made a few changes to the gearset for efficiency sake, obviously going to be taller gearing, and the fact that the axle is now multilink.... If I was to bet, I'd put a little money on it not being interchangeable

Are those coilovers still 2.5? They look closer to 2.0 but maybe it's just a bad angle.

If you zoom in on this picture at the bed for and that right side wheel well, the bed looks just like the Tacoma bed. My guess is same composite style as the taco.

    Hot Take:

2.93 final drive mated to a "world beating" 8spd slush box. No locker/LSD available because "there just wasn't any demand from our customers". The new gear ratios and extra gear-hunting programming ensure that you never see north of 1200rpm outside of tow/haul mode. Fortunately the 3.5V6TT makes torque at 1000rpm thanks to a pair of tiny turbos out of a Japan-only kei car, but they fizzle out north of 4k rpm.

Carbon fiber composite bed is in the works, but will need another 15 years R&D to ensure it meets Toyota-spec. Target max 1500lb payload in Regular cab long bed.

EPA rated 22mpg highway (<55mph) because the composite bed hasn't left planning yet. The only lightweight modifications are the change to coil springs and aluminum front knuckles.

SR trim RWD RC starts at $38k. TRD Pro appearance + shocks package bumps an SR5 to $75k.

Axle looks about the same size as the current truck, although the drain plug is on the the opposite side of the pumpkin. Hopefully they retained the 10.5” ring gear and 4.30:1 rear end, a 10 speed up front should have enough ratios to make that possible and still get good fuel economy.

The skid plate doesn’t appear to have an access hatch for the oil filter, so Toyota screwed us again on that.

Toyota reliability is unmatched. I considered a GMC 2500 but still can't get myself to take that level of risk.

The oil filter on the V35A-FTS ‘21 variant in the Land Cruiser 300, which is probably what we’re getting, is located at the bottom of the engine block in the front on the driver’s side.

Appears similar to the mounting location on a Ford Raptor.

That's a bummer, huge gripe of mine. Makes so much unnecessary extra work, my 21' t4r is the same way so I'm gonna have to install aftermarket skids.

Same material as the Tacoma, I'm guessing. More weight savings and higher payload.

I’m buying but in a couple years. I’ll be buying a PRO or other high end trim level. I can’t wait for the more comfortable ride of rear coil springs. I don’t care about losing the V8 and I’ve decided that with the PRO I will MOD less and that’s what I want. I’m going to leave the next one as close to OEM as I can.
