The logic follows that cooler oil is better, and a large thin walled filter in airflow kept the oil cooler, with the water cooler, is that line of thought negated? If i planned on dragging 10k lbs across the desert should i pull the water’cooler’ and replace it with an oil radiator?

Not necessarily. At some point there are probably zero benefits and maybe even negative returns, idk. All auto manufacturers do extensive testing under various extremes, so I have no doubt that the recommended type and size is sufficient for their particular application.

Years ago I had a friend who worked in R&D and product testing for Harley-Davidson testing bikes here in Az at the old GM proving grounds subjecting them to very brutal conditions to try and determine the failure point of a system. It was rare that a unit would fail these tests.

I’m thinking ima make both of these trips. Noticed big bear campsite is sold out if I read the threat right. Sure I can find something close by. Big Bear is only a couple hrs away.

Got a nice awakening this morning from a Element across the street that got its cat stolen last night. Ill be honest though, listening to him turn it off and on, trying to figure out what happened at like 8am was entertaining to say the least. Definitely might order one of those Pod6 cat skid plates though now, I dont really wanna have another cat stolen.

Hide a fuel pump kill switch, and ‘break down’ in a beautiful spot. Have it ‘fixed’ by morning.

Thats rough. From my understanding they go for OEM Cats so if you have aftermarket ones now, should be safe. But then again, even the aftermarket ones are an arm n a leg now, especially here in Cali.

which side of Atlanta you on? I’m about 2 hours north of Atlanta, but got some friends that live in the canton area. So I’m done that way fairly often. My headlights look so terrible with everything else on the truck on lol

Question, last night I changed my rear diff oil and it only took 3 quarts to fill up. I thought it took 3 and a half or 4 and a half?…. Can’t remember but sure it was more than just 3 quarts.

could it be cause the 4.56 gears are larger and the new LSD is taking up more space?

    What you all think?

Maybe you had a @Hooptytrix lean going on when you changed it?
I always get ocd with it and jack the side of the truck opposite the drain plug to get it ALL out. Then let it back down and fill as usual.

Put on new Toyo Open Country H/T 265/65R 17. Bought same kind when first buying the truck in 09. This makes the 3rd set and been very pleased how they ride. Alignment was a tad off but unnoticeable to me.
The manager that test drove after said it had a very slight pull to right. We'll see after things settle in. Thoughts on alignment numbers ?

Slight pull is due to cross camber.

Thanks, is that something he could have adjusted out ? Had about a 5 mile stretch of back country road, fairly well kept and straight. There was very little pull to right when letting go of steering wheel.

    Possibly.

Take pics of the position of your adjusters in the lower control arms and I could better tell.

Today I replaced that metal fork-clip that holds the brake line in place. I had mangled the old one last year(shocking) and didn't think about it until Noah pointed it out.

I also re-torqued all my LBJ bolts. I had the same issue that I ran into last year. Neither of my torque wrenches would click. Then I remembered a trick that Noah told me he has to do with his. Instead of going immediately to the torque spec he needs, he has to increase it gradually. Get it to click at 30 ft lbs, then 50, and so on. I tried that today and I got 6/8 LBJ bolts to click which was better than zero. Nice tip @Tundra2

Today I greased my UCAs… finally. Been on my to do list for a while. Apparently they should be greased every 3-6 months and even more so if going off-road. Hopefully this eliminates the squeaking from the front suspension.

Replaced passenger side front door check and drivers side rear door check to keep the boss happy. She keeps complaining about it shutting on her when loading the munchkin, will add a more detailed write up to the door check problems thread later this evening after I get the offspring down for bed.

Did you just hook up the grease gun or did you loosen the bolts to the UCA?

Anyone looked at a 2nd gen door check to see if it fits? I'm wondering if they have heavier doors and a better hold.

Anyone able to contact that valiant george guy on IG? Tried messaging and adding him a few weeks ago but no response to either. I was interested in his reinforcement plates.

I just pour in some fresh while the plug is out. Not like the volume they sell ever matches the volume the engine wants - always gotta buy more.
I just pour in some of that extra until it comes out clean at the bottom.
