4.7 timing belt

When going through rock auto I didn't see the Aisin(which is what I would agree is best). This is the thought I had as well. But it just has such low miles I didnt really know if it was needed.

according to aisins site, this is the right kit.

 

Timing belts have both a mileage OR time replacement schedule. If either passes, it's best to replace it.

I have the aisin kit and thermostat and rubber ring gasket on order. Is there a paper thermostat flange gasket also?

Gasket material is always worth having around. Get the thickness you need, and double thick just in case. Templating isnt hard, and you can make punches by grinding an edge on the right size or slightly smaller pipes.

 

No, the o-ring around the thermostat is all that seals it. No gasket required.

 

i replaced one with 300k on it that looked better than yours (and yes. it was indeed the original. i personally knew the owner.)

 

Wow, maybe it's age that's making mine look worse.

 

I know I could RTFM to get this info, but if anyone has it on the tip of their brain, what is the age part? Mine was replaced about 20k miles ago (@50k-ish miles), near its 10yr anniversary.

Interesting . . . I'd heard that before as well.
When I bought my 2006 DC last November, it only had around 56K miles on it, but he just had the timing belt replaced before I bought it.

I'm coming up on 90k mi on the second timing belt and have been feeling a little anxious. I'm feeling much better now. May I'll even put it off until next year.

 

I just pulled my timing belt this week — 2000 tundra v8 — 70,000 miles — 2nd owner
original owner is a friend and had all service receipts — no evidence of it ever being done, toyota had no record of it either

old belt looks new, if it still had the paint markings you would not be able to tell old from new

I did however have some red crystalized substance just above and below the stationary idler pulley — evidence of a water pump leak — luckily I had planned to change that as well

 

Run a car fax report on the vin and it should show you the service records.

 

I got the belt ready to come off. I had to bump the starter to get the crank bolt off. My Snap-On impact didn't fit. Worked like a charm though.
I see I should replace my crank seal so I'm gonna order that. Hopefully Toyota has it in stock. Lastly, this....

Anyone else have what looks to be a bent crank sensor?
Thinking I can leave well enough alone. It looks like it is easily serviceable if it goes bad.

 

I've never seen the sensor on mine yet but as you noted it's easily replaced if necessary. If it's working I wouldn't bother with it. However, I would replace the cam front seals also while you're there. They may not be leaking but you're there. Far less costly to do it now.

Edit: Wait a minute. I just noticed a mark running down the center of the sensor. Any idea what it's from?

 

Probably dirt being slung off the inductor ring or belt material being slung. I would at least loosen the 2 bolts holding the crank sensor in place and clean all the debris out, and see if you can reposition it at all.

Did any of you get your seals aftermarket? Wondering if I should put an order in on Amazon now or check local parts stores or wait until Monday and check with dealer.

I'd strongly encourage you to go with OEM.

 

Environment has a big effect on rubber. Extreme Heat/cold, humidity etc.
