What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Welp, she's still not liking 100+ ambient temps.

The temp rises about 1/8" from where it normally runs at after it sits at idle for a bit. It no longer keeps climbing though. So overall a success, just not staying as cool as I'd like.

 

How's the condition of the belt? Is it slipping maybe?

 

Belt seems fine. I can just rev up to 1500rpms and temps drop back to 'normal'.

 

Acrylic can be formed to curves with heat.

 

Interesting. Sounds like the water pump and/or radiator then.

 

I ordered the fan clutch so I'm going to give that a shot. I get the same temperature creep at idle or occasionally in stop and go traffic. Like you said though, revving up to 1500rpms and getting air flow from the engine fan brings the temperature down to normal.

Are you on your original radiator/ thermostat?

 

My coolant and transtemps get considerably higher when outside temp is 100+. Its interesting because 90* doesn't show any real rise.

 

The best way to get tobacco smell out of your truck. Give it a few ozium spritzes a day for a few days when you're done driving. When you do drive, roll down the windows. Bam the smoke smell is gone in a few days.

Would be a certain awesomeness to a back glass in two part (plexiglass?) where the top 1/2 could be lowered to the outside of the lower 1/2 so you could have the top 1/2 open for venting & full value of magic back DC window. Would be good if you had dawgs back there too.
A little panels overlap for water resistance. Guess you'd have a double track within the lifting backglass frame.

 

Do you rinse out the radiator? A lot of little crap gets caught up between the fins. I try to use the hose to clear out road grit with each truck warshing.
But don't really get the heat here to know if I'm succeeding.

I felt a difference when merging from hwy A to hwy B. There was full use of 8cyls & a downshift happening when I felt 'a difference'....
Heard a difference couple miles later when I was fortunately 3 blocks from home. Tried to be coming into my block.
Dad has the red, I have the yellow & green. I went yellow for a change.

I seem to have lost a hangar somewhere along the way & failed to notice until... too late.
At least it's behind the muffler. Sounding throaty though. Need to check things out down under & see what's what.

 

From experience the Walker stainless is about $200 and mounts right up.

 

I installed a GPS speedometer, cuz my tires are big and OE speedo is false as a result. Has some cool features, I like it.

The sticky-pad you get with it didn't work well for me so I used adhesive Velcro. My phone is officially relieved of speedometer duty. Happy with this product.

I used the cig plug next to the hash tray and routed the wire under the dash, pretty easy.

Can change the brightness and colors of the different categories, speed, altitude, direction, etc

I haven't tried the acceleration or braking tests yet but a pretty neat feature.

Pumps been replaced IIRC. Dealer did the timing belt and water pump by previous owner.

Radiator yes, not 100% sure on t-stat.

Yes. It has a calibration feature and I manually synchronized it to my phone GPS which is spot-on according to roadside radar setups.

 

in theory if you put a bright flashlight on the other side, you should see it shining through the fins. In theory. Doesn't take much to clog up the fins - morning dew+dust+pollen+road salt.... clogged

Well wait, you mean the coolant gets hotter while at idle? I meant driving around in general. During temps under 100 my coolant tends to stay 194-200 but anytime it is 100 or hotter outside the temps seem to jump by a greater amount than the ambient temp (for example if its 105 my temp goes around 215).

At a stationary idle I haven't looked really, when its that hot I want the truck moving.

 

I like this a lot. Probably could add a fuse tap if the 12V was important to you.

Correct. Only while sitting still at idle do I see a rise on the gauge after things heat soak a bit.

 

A fuse tap on the interior fuse box instead of using the the 12V ug for the cigarette lighter if it were important to you for phone charging, blow up doll inflation, etc.

 

I used the Quiet Flow series. They have cheaper but that's supposed to be stainless.

Other cheap option is a cherry bomb and you're out $30.

 

Busted, you nailed it. That's how I get to use the HOV lane.
I thought about hard-wiring it but then realized I was feeling too lazy.
The easy way only took about 10 minutes and I washed my hands of it. I still might hard-wire it if I get bored one day.

 

Aluminized steel pipe like that is lucky to last 2 years.
