    Ok, I can fix that.

As for your fuel issue, @Sirfive mentioned fuel lines related to your fuel smell/leak which is somewhat more important than a vacuum leak. The pic showing Input and Return are your fuel lines. Try and keep that separate from your vacuum leak as far as trouble shooting.

As for your vacuum line issue, from my couch the below pic you posted seems to look fine but with all the info you have been given plus pics, surely you can see the proper way. If you still are unsure, post up a new pic showing everything the best you can and those that can help will try to assist.

Ok but given there was no fuel smell before and these hoses don't seem to have been on these tubes before I'm guessing the pic I posted of where they are now (with one ziptied) isn't correct. Just needing to understand which is wrong and where it goes instead.

Flip flopped the hoses again and still getting the fuel smell. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong here?

Okay now it's having a good amount of difficulty starting for some reason and also still throwing off gas fumes smell. Rolling the dice fingers crossed taking it for a quick trip 20 minutes each way hopefully this will sort out whatever it is

Try to blow air (with your lungs) through as many ports as you can on that evap box. It might be stuck. Dunno if it would help to have it up to temperature. I assumed that box has a line from the fuel tank vent and thats where it says to blow. Also, when its running, look at all the fuel line connections for any signs of leaks.

We'll try that when I get back but I'm not confident the hoses are even set correctly at this point given the conflicting photos and diagrams. Also now it's doing a very odd chirping sound it seems to increase with speed but I can't determine if it's related to being on the throttle or not

Hoses I have didn't want to fit to match the diagram and had to be forced/ziptide. Can you confirm both of those nozzles get hoses on your application?

Just stopped and pretty sure the truck dumped a half gallon of fuel on the ground for as long as it took me to pick up something and the gas gauge seems to confirm that

Somehow the engine is running fine knock on wood and no check engine lights totally normal outside of his very odd chirping that increases with speed but doesn't seem to match throttle input

Ok, so mine are opposite because the hoses won't fit any other way and in fact I ripped the one with the zip tie trying to get it to work.

Made it home (no idea how) and gas smell/chirping still very prevalent. No leaks in engine bay, looked under it to find the truck was pouring gas out of the gas tank somehow and leaking all over the rear driveshaft I just replaced and the hot exhaust pipe. Fucking done, this was it, last fucking straw.

No idea, apparently this isn't for me. I've got a veritable bomb sitting in my driveway that I needed to go pickup some fencing with and at a total investment this point approaching $10k I thought I'd be able to use. But nope. So fuck all these people all over the internet extolling the virtues of this fucking truck. God-damned nightmare.

Oof. But, fair. You’ve had a bad experience. My condolences dont mean jack, but you have them, and you’re probably pretty close to having a forever truck you can enjoy punishing.

Appreciate that but this whole endeavor was to be a cheap solution to just barely needing a truck, and not wanting to have to borrow one for the once a month occasion.

It's not gone anything like I'd expected and I'm trying to avoid falling victim to the sunk cost fallacy here. As while I've already dumped money into a brand new drive shaft, full trans rebuild and brand new steering rack, etc. I know the rear end is rotted and I patched it with epoxy but that won't last and I've not touched the brakes yet which in sure will need a complete overhaul, the timing belt which likely hasn't been done in forever, and all the suspension likely needs replacement as well. All on a truck with, 260k, a rough body w/rotted wheel wells and a plow that was working when I got it but stopped working as soon as I tried to get it into the garage for storage.

Misses talked me into limping it to a shop just down the road to get a quote on fixing whatever the fuck the problem is now but feeling about as disheartened as is possible. Driving it is truly a white knuckle experience, wondering what's to fail next and potentially leave me stranded.

Just keeps getting better, sat for a few days while I waited for shop to be available. Now it won't start, kicks over and then dies immediately. No matter the configuration of the hoses. Oh and it's leaking fuel for who the fuck knows where

These trucks are getting old. I would not suggest buying one unless you want and can do the work yourself. Otherwise it's going to be an expensive adventure. Like buying an old muscle car, but you're not a wrencher. Having someone else fix it up at shop labor prices will quickly make it more expensive than it's worth. I'm also not sure all of the things you replaced needed replacing. So you spend a lot of money not fixing the problem you're trying to fix. I haven't spent $3000 on my truck for repairs the whole time I've owned it (16 years), but I am the one doing the maintenance and repairs. I know exactly where it's been and what's been done to it. I'm sorry you've had so much trouble with yours. I think your gas leak is just hoses swapped to the wrong places pressurizing instead of venting the tank. You need a gear head buddy that can help you sort through the issues to save you time and money. Otherwise, you're at the mercy of the shop.

Agreed and know a reasonable amount, figured I could learn as I went....didnt think I'd be signing up to be dropped in the ocean 50 miles from shore....but on the hose issue why would switching them back not fix it? Possible I could just hook up my little Ryobi tire filler and blow the line out?

It sounds to me like the previous owner did some sketchy things with the vacuum hoses on your truck. You can iron the situation out though, but you need to slow down. Get a Haynes manual and the factory service manual, both of them. Then you need to go through all of the hoses and check that they are hooked to the right components and are in good condition. Their correct routing is in the manuals. Check every single one of them, and the fuel system ones too. Put a piece of tape around the ones you have checked and don’t stop until you can swear every single one is correct. If the fuel leak persists after that, pull the bed off so you can see what is going on at the fuel tank. Biggest thing is to slow down and start working through the issues systematically. You can do this thing though, don’t be discouraged!

Update: apparently it was leaking fuel from the hose going to the motor from the tank...this explains why I was losing fuel so quickly and seems may have been caused by pressurizing the tank from the misrouted evap hose as someone mentioned above. $260 later for new hoses and a new fuel filter (said the one in there looked original). I've got a running truck again (knocks on all the wood), but they mentioned I should plan on replacing the tank sometime soon as it's not looking well ($800 apparently).

Didn't bother to check cause the truck started and drove home....but they didn't bother to reconnect the hoses under the hood....

Since the ends started to split, I just ordered new ones from Toyota ($60 WTF?!). And the more I compare all the photos and diagrams to my own engine bay the more frustrated I get as none of it seems to line up. I may just take the new hoses to the shop have have them deal with it, which feels pathetic but I'm sick of making costly mistakes with this thing.

So Toyota can't figure out how to order the hose going into that unit that doesn't have a bend (the one the tape is up against). I got the one with a bend but two special orders later they can't get it apparently. I'm still completely lost which hose goes where, as looking at all the diagrams and other trucks posted here, I think my hoses are wrong in a few places but I really can't figure out which goes where. It starts and runs as shown in the photo so I don't want to make anything worse, but I know they need to be connected, so I'm hoping someone can idiot proof this and help me figure out what goes where. Thanks in advance.

Post a pic of the vacuum line sticker on your hood.

also, has the evap been checked for flow?

Map looks the name but has a different code at the bottom. Also rerouted things based on that (which I think is what caused the massive fuel leak last time). See last pic and if anyone confirm it looks right I will owe you a thousand thank yous.
