Has anyone done this and is it worth it I’ve already done the doors and rear inner and outer which helped tremendously but I want to take it a step further. I noticed the floor had thick carpet material underneath it but I’m not sure about the headliner.

The roof made the biggest difference for me. Well worth the Saturday spent making it happen...

I did the entire interior of my DC...

Inner/outer door skin, floor, pillars and back wall at near 100% coverage with 80mil CLD; the roof a little less than that. I followed that up with 3M Thinsulate SM200L on the door cards, floor, pillars, back wall, and ceiling (doubled or triple layers as space allowed).

Definitely an improvement, I did it for noise reduction not necessarily sound quality

How much does this stuff weigh? Would lining the whole interior with this stuff be ~100lbs?

    .7lbs=1sqft I used 3 boxes for a total of 75 pounds.

    https://www.amazon.com/Noico-Insula...dening-Material/dp/B07TKXMPH7?ref_=ast_sto_dp

    1 box (36 sqft) = 3lbs I used 3 boxes for a total of 9 pounds.

6 rolls of tape at around a total of 2 pounds,

Total of 86 pounds for full coverage on a double cab.

For a crew max full coverage it will be 4 boxes of each product which bumps total weight to around 114 pounds.

I would be curious how the roof liner went back up. I’m doing my 21 tundra pro when audio gets done. I have my C7Z06 corvette done.

    Reverse of removal. :)

There were no interference issues if that is what you were wondering.

I was curious if the liner still looked like factory and you had no issues putting it back up. Thanks.

With my layer of 80mil CLD and then SM200L, you can't tell any difference. I probably could have gone with SM400L easily

Mind giving me a quick explanation of the two different deadening materials you installed. It’s like you have a base layer of the foil stuff and then a top layer of the rubber stuff.

The silver stuff is sound deadening pads, and the black stuff is peel and stick insulation. Made a huge difference inside the cab. Between cutting out the pounding noise when it rains, to keeping the interior colder or warmer depending on season. Would do again on my next one in a heart beat!!

I am about to do this to my 2021 Trd Pro. Any updated instructions on the headliner removal? Also can I take out the headliner out with no issues if i don't remove the rear seats?

Yes it did, I think we had to go from upper corner to lower to sneak it out. But it went just fine

I’d love a quieter cab, even though the noise doesn’t bother me too much. But 114 lb worth of deadening material? Thats almost 10% of my 1270 lb payload.

I did the whole cab on my crewmax just not the roof. That will be my next project.

Interesting - I’ll admit the cab is noisy - but at the same time it’s still a truck - so noisy is a relative term.

Doing the doors helped a lot I think - and it simply makes them FEEL solid when closing. I kinda wanna do the same thing to my tailgate - for no other reason that elimination of that hollow sound when licking using the remote.

As to adding to floor/roof - obviously more exterior noise comes from floor - but you have a degree of insulation from carpeting. A headliner is thin and I can’t recall ANY vehicle I’ve seen with any type of factory insulation on the roof - just metal and thin fabric.

A lot would do with what your goals are/operating environment. I mean if your a high end audiophile - I see it. If you operate in a noisy environment and need a quiet cab - I get it. To me these are the extremes and for 85%+ of us - doors alone are the best bang for the buck.

Again - customization and it’s what YOU value and need. It’s a relatively cheap mod and will yield a difference I would think to those in the minority easily worth the cost of time/materials.

Only concern I would have would be side airbags/interference - but no reason to go that far down onto the rails from the rooof toe - just hit the large flat portions.

Unfortunately for me, it was a necessity. The rain was so loud in the truck, I would not be able to drive my truck in the rain. I have tinnitus from a couple rounds of chemo I was lucky enough to do a couple of years ago now, and that nuked my ears, they are super sensitive these days.

Guess I'll be in the class of people, overloaded most of the time, but barely...

Yes, no sound deadening went over the airbags, or interfered with them at all, I am not worried about them deploying in a collision, I am sure they will act just fine. It's not like I put a roof rack on!! ;)

I’m so sorry to hear that. I record music all day with headphones on. I’m terrified of tinnitus. Too many older guys who have been doing what I do for far longer have debilitating issues with it. I keep my listening levels very low exactly for that reason.

The headliner is the only thing I’m worried about tearing up taking it out and then putting it back in it looking like crap. My 2019 ram comes with a good layer of foam on the roof and I was hoping the tundra did the same but apparently not.

I think sound quality is only one benefit of this.
Studies prove that sound deadening can reduce driver fatigue significantly.
Easier to hold conversations in the truck as well as not having to have the stereo on such a high volume.
That constant noise can wear you down. Also the MOD helps with insulating the truck against heat and cold. It effectively makes your air conditioning and heater more effective and less necessary. It protects the components like wires and lights that have no shielding from the blazing hot sheet metal on the roof and floors.

Insulation - yes I can see that.

Driver fatigue - I see as less of an issue - what percentage of Tundra drivers operate their vehicle for greater than 4 hour stretches on a regular basis? It’s a half ton - not a semi.

Besides, the factory safety system of stopping for gas every 3 hours while towing seems to work for most the give the driver breaks and force them to get out of truck and move about.

Using the CLD and Thinsulate combo compared to CLD/CCF/MLV in our 4Runner, definitely seems to do more for temperature insulation, and matched with fairly dark ceramic tint on everything (and near clear ceramic tint on the windshield) did wonders on our last trip through the SW deserts a few weeks ago.

While I'm sure I'm part of a small (tiny?) percentage of people on here, some of us do very long drives. We are doing our second of three East coast to West coast and back trips next week, and my girlfriend and I do 4 or 6hr stints and switch (one sleeps one drives) for most of the way to maximize time at our destinations. That, coupled with the LRA fuel tank and her having a toilet in the back seat means we're rolling for looong stretches at a time

Whats the black stuff you put over the killmat ?

The roof is the last thing I have to do, just waiting for cool weather.
