    Hello All
Im new, and close to joining the Tundra fam. Ive had 2010 Raptor for 11 years and am about to order a 2021 PRO. Looking for opinion if the 2021 is for me.... I prefer a V8 so jumping on the last year of the V8 production sounds pretty good to me. I can get over the dated interior if the truck is relatively low maintenance. I know historically Toyota has a good brand. I test drove a new Tacoma and felt it was underpowered.
Thank you in advance for your input.

Question does it need to be a pro? They are marked up more than other models. You can build a more capable and save money with a different model. And welcome

Thank you for the info, outlaw.taco I appreciate the feedback, super in depth and just what I needed to hear.

Kanobi, just like the Raptor I like to buy a truck that is drive ready for a year or two and then tastefully mod to keep interest.

Just got one and I love it but.....will they let you order one? Supply is low because of the chip shortage. My local dealers wouldn't let me order one I had to get lucky on the internet. I'm thinking they about to halt production of the 21's.

Toyota doesn't do ordering like GM. Just have to find one that's already out there.

Good luck to you op. Might be a bit of a challenge to find one in the current market but they are out there. If you see one be prepared jump on it.

Hands down the best half-ton out there. My only gripe is low-ish payload. But spend time at the domestics’ forums, and you’ll see that it’s not that far off from their optioned out crew cab short bed payload numbers.

First OP - just do it. The good news is if you buy at MSRP and go to resell - short term depreciation will be near zero.

Ordering - it’s different. There is no “cafeteria” style order like Ford - you don’t say “I want xx with this option, delete this and this” it’s - I want a Pro - what color do you have and what accessories are coming on that - can I remove what I don’t want (and then add what you want as most accessories can be added on the lot). Toyota has distribution who are each given a list of “you are getting xx number of Pros and here’s the breakdown of color and crewmax and double cab) - the distributor in turn allocated to their dealers based on “pre sold” and then if pre sold is not there - allowed inventory. Ultimately- pre sell takes almost all allocations in normal times and now it’s worse.

You give the dealer a $500 refundable deposit - they place your request and secure an allocation and let you know approx delivery date.

Now as to “dated” interior and lack of ummph in the Tacoma.

The interior is as dated as any Chevy in my opinion with GMC being just above - the Ram/Ford - Ram is nicer interior - but some cheap elements there in my opinion. Ford - aside from the Raptor I have not seen many I don’t expect to see being driven by an AARP cardholder. I swear they make things large and easy to read out of the need for their owners - do they come with a large print owners manual too ?

The lack of ummph - you will find on the Tundra too - and it’s not a lack of power - it’s a lack of a pedal commander issue. I found more acceleration on a 6cyl Ram than the Tundra - but flip on the tow mode or put in a Pedal Commander to increase pedal response and you see a difference. The power is there in a Tacoma - it’s just tamed down for daily driving like alot of Toyota’s - MPG over sport feel.

I’m a fan of the V8 - but I’m also the first to say don’t fear a turbo 6. It’s all about wants/needs and goals. If you want acceleration and need towing - the turbo 6 will likely be a positive gain…but understand this will likely conflict with a goal of minimal maintenance and 15+ years of hassle free ownership.

Right now it’s anyone’s guess as to how long the turbos hold up for. I personally think 10-12 years is a reasonable guess. 5 or under would be unreasonably short and 15+ just doesn’t seem possible for the average user. Right now the V8 has been a 15+ year offering - so likely it will drop - but that said the market will probably accept as 12 years life of a truck is about the average for a big 3 offering. Not that things will be “junk” in year 13…just that will be the point where you begin to experience bills beyond the $500-800 range more frequently.

Regarding the cafeteria style ordering, I had some flexibility when I ordered my 2021 Platinum. It came with some standard stuff (i.e. tray charger, rear USB ports, bed lights, etc.) but then I was able to change the running boards (opted to remove them all together), add/remove bed rails, add/remove tonneau cover, want these wheels with these tires, color matched handles/mirrors, etc. Now, this is all pretty basic stuff. Anything that is done in port can be changed. Anything shipped from factory cannot.

Pros can be ordered just like any other Tundra.

You get color and cab choice and then a list of the accessories that you can add on.

I have the Toyota ordering slip somewhere that clearly details the option list.

Ive also posted it on this forum before as well.

At this point an order might not be possible as Toyota is likely finishing up currently placed orders and may already be back ordered past their deadline date.
