Rock Slider Suggestions

Finally got the email last night that my Cali Raised Trail sliders are ready for pickup. Super stoked, probably pick them up after work Friday.

Definitely. I am hoping to do the install pretty soon. I will be installing them with the Valhallas sheild so I will try to get some detailed pics.

 

Looks awesome! You have the trail editions right? Doesnt look wide enough to be the step edition. I went with the rhino lining to help the family with grip. I am also hoping the install goes smoothly with my smaller gas tank. That seems to be the area most people have issues with their larger tanks.

 

Did you drop the tank or just used the bracket handle tools that they provide? I wonder if it would be easier with the 26 gallon.

 

Got it. If i didnt have the Valhalla plates I would have them do it, but i have a feeling they would run into snags and want to charge me for the minor tweaks it would need.

Just want to say thanks for posting about Explore overland- I had never heard of them. I almost bit the bullet on WKOR, but I never liked how sudden the kick out is. I just looked at explore overland sliders and really like the gradual bend on the kick out. I'll be placing an order soon and report back.

 

RCI powder coated sliders with top tread plate. Install took about 4 hours total. Used a floor jack and 2x4 to hold the sliders in place and get them into position. Takes 5 bolts on each side, but currently only have 3 bolts installed on the driver’s side slider. The driver’s side is tough because the frame of the truck is next to the gas tank (38gal). It is going to make those last 2 bolts hard to install. Dropping your tank would make it easiest but I’m trying to avoid that. You will also need to unclip your brake lines on passenger side in order to tighten one of the bolts, but the 5 bolts on the passenger side are all way more accessible than the driver’s side. Overall very happy with the fit and finish. I like the “low profile” kick out but also wouldn’t have minded a wider kick out either. Also got RCI’s full aluminum skid set. Would recommend their stuff to anyone looking for solid armor that is all bolt on!

 

@pvn.beluga how're you liking the WKOR rock sliders? I'm still debating on WKOR or RCI. There is about 200$ difference (shipping, taxes included) between them. Seems like WKOR offers a bit more coverage but the RCI is direct bolt-on.

 

I took a look at the RCI instructions and it doesn’t look like they are any more “bolt on” than the WKOR sliders. Same 5 bolts on the side of the frame (but WKOR uses .5” bolts instead of 7/16”). WKOR doesn’t list the bottom drilled holes as optional though, but it’s the same concept.

 

Yeah, after doing more and more research Im leaning towards WKOR

 

I actually haven’t received mine yet, but @TRDFerguson could chime in on his experience with it so far.

Mine should be arriving this upcoming week. It’s raining quite a bit this upcoming week so I may not be able to install it until the following week after.

Will post photos of installation and give a review of what I think about it!

 

So went yesterday to pick the sliders up and sure enough there was like 8 separate gashes and holes in the rhino lining. They are sending the sliders back for blast and recoat, just my luck.

 

So my WKOR sliders shipped today, almost 10 weeks to the day from order, exactly as promised. I expect they won’t arrive until next week, but I’ve got everything ready for install. Can’t wait.

 

Mine are currently in Pennsylvania. Should be another day or two before it arrives at the local hub!

 

Ordered the WOKR rock sliders today! Just a heads up. Prices have increased another 100$. Fortunately I did my quote before the increase so they honored the original quote.

 

I also found an old code on IH8MUD for 5% off that they honored. I just remembered this. Check for it on Google and see if they’ll tack it on.

 

Damn! $1380 base for .188 DOM, PC, no plates. Luckily I got it for $1500 total!! Glad you’re jumping onto WKOR!

Oh yeah! I totally forgot to mention this. Told them I was on the forums and they added on the forum discount!

 

AND IT’S HERE!!! Ordered on Apr. 7th, arrived today (Jun. 30th).

I ordered the WKOR sliders last December during their sale. Received them mid February as promised. Natalie at WKOR responded to my numerous questions during a time when I know they were swamped with orders. She was very polite and had a ton of patience with me. I received the sliders and they took great care in packing these. Not a single scratch or blemish in the powder coat. That was unexpected as they were shipped to the East Coast. If I recall the shipping weight was close to 250Lbs! Because my truck is new, under warranty, and I am concerned about giving rust a head start, I didn't want to drill any holes in the frame. I don't plan on sliding these on rocks anytime soon. I just wanted a step and a barrier for door-dings. So I simply bolted them on with the 5 bolts per side in the existing factory holes in the frame. They're super sturdy and do not flex at all when I bounce on them. Unflattering pictures are attached. I can't say enough about the quality of the workmanship and their customer service. I highly recommend them and their sliders .

 

I'd recommend having multiple drill bits as

Drill your holes and coat each hole with rust bullet. That's what I did and it is hard as a rock. I'm not concerned about the holes rusting.

 

FFS, this install was straight forward, but difficult. I was only able to knock out the top frame bolts, so still have to drill out the holes for the remaining bottom frame bolts.

Tried to drill out the frame holes this morning, but I ended up smashing my left eye with the drill battery. Took a chunk of skin and was bleeding every where...

@YotaBro take a photo of your rear driver side cab mount. I'm not sure if it's similar to my 2021, but it was a PITA to get to (had to borrow my fiance's small hands in order to get the mounting plate w/ the rod). It's just a really awkward position behind the gas tank. Also, a socket will not fit in that tight space next to the driver's side rear cab mount. My 19mm wrench can only fit at certain angles. I was using a long pair of needle nose pliers to turn the bolt until it tightened the sliders against the frame.
