Drove home today and noticed the AC compressor sounds like a humpback whale in heat. I can only hear it with the fan set at low and if I feather the rpms while sitting at idle.

Hope that’s not an early indicator I’ll need a new compressor soon.

 

Hopefully just belt slippage but more likely is clutch slippage. Have a look at the compressor with the A/C off and engine running and have someone slightly rev the engine (1500rpm or so) and then turn the A/C on, if you see the clutch chatter/slip while it's screeching, then your clutch is worn. Sometimes it's available as a replacement instead of having to replace the entire compressor which would be nice since you wont have to open the system.

 

I can’t really hear any screeching with the AC off, only when it’s on. I’ll have someone rev it when they come by later today.

 

Sorry, I just realized I forgot to add the part about turning the A/C on after reving the engine slightly. I edited the original post.

Think I've found my suspension squeak. Sway bar link where it attaches to the lower control arm. 200 miles with no squeak so far after spraying only that with PB blaster.

Wonder if it's rubbing on the arm.

 

You have the suspension maxx links? Maybe the metal bushings aren’t lined up vertically/correctly?

 

Barely flaps at 75mph, not an issue at all.

 

Yes, Maxx links. Could very well be. I'll have to compare drivers side versus passenger side and see what it do.

 

I’m noticing all the squeaks from front end now. And I’m just driving normal roads. No Kentucky craziness.

 

Jumped on Toyota's website and entered my VIN to get the breakdown on the factory options the truck has and discovered that the timing belt, etc., was replaced at a dealer at 110k in 2015, so I'm going to put off replacing it all myself at this time. I've already pulled the covers back and done a visual and the belt is in good condition, so I'm confident it's (relatively) safe at this time.

Also getting the lower fan shroud ordered since it's missing.

 

Damn you guys werent kidding about the Suspension Maxx end links leaving hardly any clearance for getting to that lower nut, keeping the whole thing from spinning. Im thinking of grabbing a wrench from harbor freight and grinding it down to fit in the slot. Although someone in here posted that stubby wrench to buy. Does that fit in the slot without much if any modification? Its 14mm correct? Thanks!

 

I know the ARB bumpers take some bracket shenanigans to work, but if this guy got it on a Sequoia, I can get it on a tundra right?

I was the one that mentioned the stubby wrench, no modification needed. It should slip right on depending on how the bolt is oriented. If the bolt is oriented off, turn it by putting a wrench just on the top nut.

9/16" for the bottom bolt has worked best for me. Top nut is 14mm. The stubby wrench will catch on the LBJ/ rotor cover and you can tighten it from the top.

 

It's my favorite bumper. I don't care that it looks like Bubba. The hoop is perfect.

I second this! Last summer I was having issues finding antifreeze spewing outta the blue. Turns out when the supercharger was taken off my truck they left the hacked up shroud on and it didn't direct airflow to cool as designed and was causing this. It wasn't the only.problem but a big contributing factor.

Mine was lost long ago by some shop, but the sequoias lower shroud wouldnt fit. The plastic tabs were a tad too close together, and the metal clips didnt line up. I’ll order one or hunt a jy.

Believe that entire shroud I got for the replacement was from a sequoia...

 

But dc’s are sequoia ridgelines.

Everything looks identical, just different enough. Sequoias is stamped suv and tundras is stamped v8

The truck did fantastic. it was loaded up with some cooking stuff and 3 people. it wasn't a super gnarly trail, but there were some washes and ruts. I felt the rear bottom out once or twice, and ready a few coil knocks up front, but I also had 40lbs of air in the tires and no way to deflate or reinflate. I know, shame on me.

as far as grip is concerned, I never even took it out of 2WD.

 

Every once in a while I do enough truck gang shit to keep my truck gang status.

Compare that picture to this picture from a similar run on OEM suspension. (Angles aren't quite the same... but real close.)


I was 100% riding on the one bumpstop I still had at the time.

 

Actually, I think I had two scoops on the OEM run based on pictures which would have been closer to 3,000 lbs.
