LED Headlight Burn Out....

Lost the low beam on one of my Techmaxx LED headlight bulbs tonight. Kinda disappointed, but for the price ($35ish range) they worked well for the past few years.
Any thoughts on a decent replacement? Not looking for Morimoto $$$ (and I've searched the forum on this topic) and was just wondering what the general consensus was.

Works well with a set of superbrightleds.com load resistors. One per headlight.

Don't forget that them morimoto 2 strokes are pushing $350 or whatever. Go ahead and do those too so @Professional Hand Model will hush about it.

 

Also, forgot to mention. These are not clock-able. If you don't know what that means then you've never adjusted a set of LEDS.

These are plug, and play. They were pushing $50 when I bought them, but they were new on the market then.

I have the other Katanas that have a fan on them that do clock. They are the newer version of the fan cooled type BUT they don’t have a driver box like the original Katana which only lasted me 14 months (in DRL Mode). I’ve disconnected DRL Mode and barely drive at night since I’m usually here harassing and heckling others. Time will tell on their longevity.

Tundra2 has their other newer version without fan.

The new Katanas work nicely when I do drive in darkness. They are a great value ($37). Value meaning they put good light on the road at a great price. They aren’t going to be life changing bulbs like some here thought they would be and then go and complain about them. Still better than $50-$60 for a 100 hour incandescent.

Did anyone mention Morimotos 2.0 LED?

I have these, recommend by @Professional Hand Model. It’s been a few months and no issues, easy plug and play, didn’t have to cut the dust boot either.

 

Are you guys clocking these at 90 degrees vertical for the LED side throw?

 

No. The clocking allows for easier install depending on your boot/clip on your vehicle. Nice idea you have though.

Another note: Tundra2 bulb doesn’t have that cup over the one module like most. That cup is what focuses the beam similar to and incandescent cup.

When installed, they are 90 degrees vertical to side-throw the light. Very similar to what you guys are using. Super bright, yes. They work well with low beam (as long as my fogs are on for lower spectrum filler). If I hit high beam... forget it. Throws shards of light everywhere and useless. LEDs aren't really made for the OE style reflector buckets. Did you guys modify your buckets somehow.... or?? I'm considering going to a quality halogen so I can use my high beams again.

 

I have aftermarket headlight assys and haven't modified them as there is no need. My low beams are good and the high beam has some shard/rays, but I’ve rarely ever needed them. My Fogs are the PerfectFits LED and are outstanding.

 

I probably have the same aftermarket headlight assys as you. Sounds like you're in the same boat as me then. My fogs are also LED and fantastic filler for the very good low beam that the LED headlights provide. That combo is almost too bright though. I occasionally get flashed. My other complaint about the LEDs is that they run cool. I live in a climate that is cold about 70% of the year. Halogens do a much better job of keeping ice melted on the lenses. I'm still on the fence with this. One thing's for sure, these LEDs are 100 times better than the OE when I received the used truck.

Never been flashed as I used/followed the FSM aiming specs with the Akkon Aftermarket Housings. I don’t have the Cold Ice Problem here like I can imagine you have. Those Morimoto LED 2.0 have a built in special breather/heater for such a situation.

I adjusted them properly after I installed and remember it being a wonky adjustment system. Like manipulating plastic gears with a screwdriver or something... it was odd.

Work really well in my Alpharex Pros for the low beam and they are adjustable to get a better light pattern.

 

The 2017 has different reflector buckets.

Yes, I understand. It's the 2017 Tundra headlight REFLECTOR bucket which differs from the FGT bucket... wherein lies the difference in how the vehicle throws (reflects) light. For this reason your comparison is moot.

 

OP never said what year he had, was just trying to help Mr. Gatekeeper. My apologies.

 

Not gatekeeping, just trying to clarify. It was posted in the Gen 1 section so probably safe to assume he's got a Gen 1. There is a difference in how the different headlight assys emit/reflect light.

They were in the mailbox yesterday. Will be put in today sometime.

 

Clocking may make install easier, putting the connector in a favorable location, but its true purpose is to place the LED "bulb" portion facing towards the reflector in a manor that it reflects the light appropriately. Usually facing down.

 

I think they're side-throw, meaning they throw light from two sides. They'll clock in to throw light right and left in the reflector bucket. That's how mine are anyway.
