    Mods, what mods?
I'm using a generic bluetooth OBD adapter (https://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-Scanner-Diagnostic-Vehicle-Compatible/dp/B07CP5ZJVQ/) and Torque Pro (https://www.tundras.com/threads/torque-pro-on-android-auto.56661/)on my Android phone. I bought Torque Pro a few years ago and have used it on a few vehicles. It works great. The GUI isn't intuitive, but it works for me.

Do you plan on using it for continuous real-time monitoring? If so, you might want to set up an old tablet for that. Check out the developer's forum here for some ideas on the vehicle stats to monitor: https://torque-bhp.com/forums/?wpforumaction=viewtopic&t=160.11

Just bought one of these on Amazon & bought the torque pro app too. Set up was relatively easy. I'll be using it for the first time while towing this weekend. Anyone know what temps I should be looking for? I've heard over 250 is cause for concern while pulling my 28 ft travel trailer.

    Function before sparkle.
Light comes on at 300. That’s when the engineers are worried.

Another vote for MX+. It’s a pricier option but works great and you get access to unlimited OEM specific add-ons for all major manufacturers and can setup different car profiles for using them and saving data.

What reader did you get? Also how'd you set up the trans temps. I'm not sure how to do that with torque pro.

Just started a new thread for trans temps. Go to the screen with all the gauges, you select the gear in the bottom left, it'll give you options for what kind of display style you want. Then you can scroll down & select what you'd like it to display. That's ok the Torque Pro app for androis.

The instructions it comes with are easy to follow for set up.

But that's what I'm trying to figure out. It read everything nicely once in connected to it via bluetooth. Can seem to get any reading on trans temp.

You've got it right - you either pay to play or figure out how to manually set up the PIDs. The link you posted has that info in there.
