Anyone running 39 km3 on their tundras?

Did you do that while locked in the front? I can see the rack going, been there done that. but 3 axles and a stub?

 

I was about to knock Toyota for not offering just that one part, but you know what, running what are practically 40" tires on a "stock" IFS is asking for trouble. Are you the first one to run 40s off-road on a Tundra with stock drive-train? Traditionally, people move to SAS when going that big.

Probably ok on the street. Not ok off-road. I have to thank you for teaching the rest of us what not to do. 4wd Trophy trucks running 40s cost 300k to build for a reason I guess. 2wd on 40s with a beef rear-end yes. Holy smokes.

 

Doesn't @Spvrtan run 40s? I'm curious what kind of issues he has run into.

 

If i was smart enough to make the wheel speed sensors work I would consider this.

I’m on a 7” BDS, with my rear more actually at 8”. Lower center of gravity is ideal but you ain’t getting over bigger obstacles that way.

 

Yes, locked in the front when things broke. I’ve got RCV axles on order. Also actively working on getting custom chromoly stub shafts made. And trying to figure out how to increase the pressure in the stock steering rack so that I can at least get myself out of sticky situations.

 

There’s been others before me on 40s and yes doing a SAS is the way to overcome this but I feel that IFS is just more of a challenge that I want to take on.

 

Correct. I ran 40" MTZ P3s for 3 years. I recently switched to 40" Trail Grapplers about 4 months ago. I'm still on my stock steering rack. The only issue I ran into once was unrelated to the tire but more a weak point of the 4.5" bracket lift: the soft spindles. I bent one going ~55mph in a wash and hit a ~2' boulder around a turn that I didn't see. I've never broke a CV axle.

I'm going to 42" tires on 20" wheels later this year.

You all think falcon wildpeak 35’s would fit on method 17” mr702s 8.5 , 0 offset on full king suspension with spc adjustable ACUs ? Or should I go 33’s I also have c4 front end and rear so I don’t have to worry about front end. Could really use help before I return stuff or place final orders thank fam

 

Yes, but you'll need a pretty aggressive CMC.

 

Life on 39s didn't last long and I ran into a shit show of problems. Found a set of 40s on Craigslist that I couldn't pass up. Still have the same problems but they are being addressed. Chopped off 4" from the wings of the rear bumper and trimmed the rear fender another 4" as well.

Anyone interested in buying my 39s?

 

I've contemplated just going from 35s to 37s on my 05'. The switch is way more involved than just buying tires. I'd have to chop a bit more in the front, regear again, ($2000+) tub the rear-end because the 35s already rub under full compression, upgrade steering to hydro ($?$?$?), or at least reinforce and add hydro assist, then I'd have to modify my tire carrier to hold bigger tires. It's a huge undertaking to say the least.

 

We're you able to get upgraded stub shafts? I just busted mine a couple of weeks ago. I am also running 40s

Nope, the stub shaft is actually quite complicated to make and because I have a low number of orders my priority on the to do list is quite low but it will get done. My recommendation to you is to buy a front diff at the junkyard to get the stub shaft. While you're there get 2 front diffs so that you can have a spare.

I’ve gotten pretty good at taking apart that front end as long as I’ve got a spare and some seal, then I’ll keep pushing on

 

I thought about 37's but my buddy who works at a trusted 50 year old off road shop who's worked on countless tundras told me you don't even gain any ground clearance over 35's and only lessen maybe a half inch or so of distance between front/rear tires. Doesn't seem worth it to me unless ya need to compare dick sizes.

 

Y’all need to buy a shitty keep to dystrophy. You can tow it home with your tundra (if you have a transmission cooler of course....)(couldn’t help myself)

 

I like that. That’s the kind of mess I like to try in the Tundra. Key word is “try” I don’t always make it but at least I tried.

 

I still have them and I’ll be hitting up Moab in the spring. If I still have them I can take them out there with me for $1000, if you’re interested - to meet there of course

 

I ran 40's on my 2018 but I also had a 12" Bulletproof lift. I loved it, but too many people had issues getting in and out. Anything shorter than a 12" lift may require fiberglass fenders or a ton of metal chopping.
