Most of those employers have been making money hand over fist. The days of being loyal to a company have long faded away, if they ever truly existed. I'm certainly not upset that companies can't get employees to work for them for the stagnant low wages they've been using for decades.

Employers can fix the issue by... increasing the wages they pay to get the workers they want. You know like free markets are supposed to do.

 

I'm not educated enough to make any more predictions, or calls on what a free market should do. I'm always looking to learn though.

For the record... I removed the bolts on the diff cover by hand. No tools except for the one bolt that doubles as a bracket for the rear brake line. That ones at the top.

 

You know you're not making enough money as a senior person every time you get a promotion, they give you a 'compression' raise in addition to your 3-5% because you've been there too long and haven't been promoted in ages. They do it to bring you to the same level as those who are now in your new position. Don't ask me how I know.

First Gen Frame Part #s

 

Looks like it was never changed. I don't think my father has ever changed diff fluid and he's still driving around in his POS 95 Ranger. Sadly his frame is in much better condition than mine and he's never washed the truck in his life.

 

It wasn't. Chevy was Papaws first. He lent it to "good church going people." More than once. They hauled logs, and shit with it for over a year, and not once changed the engine oil. Just topped her off once in a while. That's the only reason the engine didn't fuckin blow.

It's funny, at work I only use it to drive screws. Everything else I take apart with hand tools because the screws and bolts are so tiny and fragile. I'll use it for nearly everything on a vehicle as long as I have the space.

Couple of interesting headlines today.

 

We're hiring on lubies (lube techs) at $15.00 and can barely get them to come in. Of the 5 we have right now, I'm reasonably sure 3 have brain damage.

 

We keep the sleeper in the garage as to not scare the neighbors. Almost at 300k miles. I love this little thing for daily driving, and it actually does quite well in the snow.

 

Have they talked about raising the pay for that position?

 

That's a big raise from what we were paying.
I think it's in the order of a $3/hr raise.
The techs got big mad because of lubies were getting real close to 'real tech' pay rates. (for starting techs, or those who've been passed up for raises)

IN has a very low cost of living compared to most states, so our pay is subsequently hard to compare to other states.
Our real estate costs (up until the last year) have always been a good barometer of how much cheaper it is to live here than other places. My first house was on the edge of Indianapolis in a ~180 home subdivision. .3 acres, 1680 sqft, 2bed, 2 bath, on a slab with a fenced in yard.
I bought it for less than $100k in 2006.
When I sold it in 2016, I sold it for $112k. IN is cool because it's cheap to live here, but sucks if you like to travel because your money just doesn't go as far outside the state. (because you don't have as much)

Speaking of other HiWay Smells, since it just became legal on the Island, been smelling a lot of it driving around town. I swear its messing us up as a society. Goofy People made Goofier. Reason nothing is getting done and why one needs to explain things 17 times for them to understand.

Tor is out there for anyone that wants to keep it private. I can barely get people to switch to signal and proton mail. Tor is never going to happen. Allowing companies to filter communication was our biggest mistake.
