Also, 63k inspected trucks in a population of 20.8 million is not small. Refer to post 5438.

I cannot seem to figure out how to do a multi-quote…but… I can certify that your breakdown of doofus’s error is 100% accurate. I wasn’t going to crunch the numbers for him like you did but anyone who suggests a sample size of 63,000 isn’t sufficient (for any population) doesn’t have a basic understanding of statistics. His disclaimer should have said “I have had one statistics class and think I know what I’m talking about” lol I’m not writing this in a mean spirit doofus isn’t the first to try to use statistics incorrectly to support his opinion. Beyond this post I will not contribute any further to the derailing this 2022 thread! :)

Supply and demand. If nobody is buying them, they will have incentives direct from Toyota. If they can't keep them on the lot, they will have markups.

Fantastic! Thanks, gents. I guess the website’s data is valid and 15-19 F series compares favorably with the Tundra.

Hopefully because they're dragging their feet any prospective buyer got impatient and bought something else, leaving plenty of supply come EOY.

I completely agree with you at the SR trim or WT trim levels but if the manufactures are going to offer high end models, with high end features, the interior quality should match. It's been said a 1000 times but the interior plastics used in these trucks is shit. They show everything. Now I don't have any squeaks or rattles in the first 9000 miles and seats are comfortable enough so I don't have any complaints there.

I had a Platinum Tundra, the regular RAM Laramie interior is a major upgrade. I believe the realistic “out the door” price is fairly similar between them. Although the people I know that have these usually get the extended warranty.

Not a chance.... Prices both new and used have skyrocketed because of limited availability. Supply and demand. Crazy prices at least though Fall. Prices for the 2022 Tundra in Florida will be well North of MSRP for at least 6 months after they appear on lots. And that will take awhile before they are not pre sold.

:facepalm:Reposting this since you apparently missed it before:

Take any vehicle from 2015-2019. I doubt you're going to find many powertrain issues (again, electrical problems, leaky rear windows, frame issues, etc are ignored by DL) with any vehicles that are only that old. Look at just about any model on that site. Newer models rate higher. That's the thing with long term reliability...the whole picture doesn't come into focus in the first few years. This is why the deep dive of data is shown for 2017 and older model years below on each model's page.

I agree to an extent. I don't need all the bells and whistles which is why I choose the SR5. But I do need it to be comfortable. I spend a lot of time in my trucks whether it be for work or towing my trailer on the weekends when I still had it. So comfortable seats is high on my list because I spend 2-8 hrs a day driving my truck for work.

Or a lot of domestic owners say things like "no, I haven't had any problems with my truck. Only had to replace the transmission twice in the last 200k miles." It's like there's a different expectation of what reliability is between Toyota and everyone else.

Yup, the classic Toyota fanboy is something else. I've owned 4 Toyota trucks in my life, and just got into a 21 F150 Powerboost XLT. I love it. 2k miles and no issues. Also getting 25mpg, and just about the fastest and most comfortable thing I've ever driven.

I drive a brand new 2021 F150 for work. It has under 200 miles on it right now. The window motors are already screwy. Same on my manager's identical truck with under 500 miles. Meanwhile, everything on my 05 Tundra works flawlessly. I don't care how fancy something is if there's always bugs to work out. I'll stick with boring but reliable.

With all due respect, I’m not sure that’s accurate. I ran through the reliability scores on Dashboard Light focusing on the models that had data up to 2019, which is the most recent data point in any model. There are models that fit your argument. However there are quite a few that do not. Here are a few examples where more recent entries performed approximately the same or worse than their predecessors:

The real question boils down to-- do you actually keep your vehicles long term, or do you like to tell people you buy a vehicle for its reliability, and then sell it before the 5-7 year mark?

I would bet at least half on this forum swap trucks out every 2-3 years. Why pay more for old tech, bad mpg, and dated design just so you can tell people you buy Toyota because of "QDR bro" and "domestics are trash"

Is that Pre-pandemic? Hard to compare values now, as every vehicle is inflated. I know the 4runner, tacoma and tundra are always in the top four resale values in north america.

It’s apples to apples. My 2019 tundra I just sold was valued at 39000 pre pandemic, and I just sold it for 55k.

Firstly, and I say this in turn with respect: nothing you're observing is as simple as you're trying to make it. Check out the Yearly Defect Ratio graph below. I have an email out to DL to ask how they get the general ratings at the top and what the metric is for choosing model year ranges, as these do not align with each vehicle's generations. I haven't heard back yet. But let's look at the examples you've given...

Regarding the Tahoe..looks like the 2016 skews the 2015-2019 range down. But the newer years on the YDR graph are better.

The MDX has a higher rating for 2014-2019 than previous. Not sure why you included this.

The RDX's "newer range" of vehicles starts at 2013. This is a curiously long model year range to group together. Again, if you go scroll down to the YDR, 2015+ vehicles rate better.

The latest model year range for the 3-series again goes all the way back to 2012. Look at YDR...there is a one year outlier (2016). Otherwise, 2014-2017 fared better than industry average.

You're right about the Escalade. Newest years have issues. Legit counterexample!

The Sierra's ranges have only gone up. Not sure why you included this. Models newer than 2019 have the highest rating. Again, they're not really old enough for trends in powertrain issues to show themselves.

2020+ Sonatas fared better than 2015-2019, which weren't that great.

The Rio's numbers, while awful, got generally better over time.

2020+ Souls fared better than 2015-2019. All are awful. Basically, avoid Kias.

2007-2017 C-class Mercs fared better than industry average. There are two years in there that report higher than average problems. 2015 appears to be the worst, and it looks like this skews the 2015-2019 range downward. Arguable counterexample

The newest Altimas fared better. Not sure why this was included.

2013+ Pathfinders are atrocious. Legit counter-example!
Looks like the other two Nissans included are legit counter-examples as well. Basically, avoid Nissans.

2015+ Imprezas fared better in YDR than previous years.

Lastly, regarding the GTI, 2011-2017s are all better than industry average for yearly defects with one outlier 2015. Not a counterexample.

The fact that there are only 5 counterexamples proves the rule that newer models are more reliable.

I watched it and it looks like they have topped the 200 series which is an amazing vehicle in its own right. I'm still holding out hope that we will see the 300 here in the States (other than in Lexus form).

I also see a lot of the new Tundra design ques in it, as well as new Sequoia hopefully. Maybe the Tundra will truly be a truck version of the Land Cruiser this go around. If so, I am sold.
