Speakers humming/white noise with new everything from tech12v

So I have a 17’ non jbl CM and couldn’t take the terrible sound system anymore, so I opted to go down the rabbit hole of a upgrade while keeping the factory HU. I researched read reviews and went with tech12volt, James had a decent deal for $1100 and fantastic reviews so I ordered all new speakers, (2)10’s, Jbl club amp, sub box,his wiring harnesses etc. Figured it would be a no brainer just take my time and Install per the instructions. Cool, super easy you’d think. Run the wires plug it all on and boom, bitchin system. Not the case for me, I have the dreaded hissing /white noise sound from my speakers. (Not to be mistaken for the alternator whine). Spoke to James and he says “Bluetooth causes it to make that noise, he Recommended I upgrade the HU and I’ll be good. So I ordered the kenwood ddx9907xr for $9XX.00 which came with everything needed. I Installed it 90% of the way and turned it on and I still had the same noise. F&$K!!!! So I paid the local shop to tune the amp and make all the wire fit behind the HU and check my install incase I missed anything for there hourly rate. They said it seemed to be good and they would keep looking for more money to fix the sound. I called James he thought maybe it was the amp so I swapped it out however same issue. WTF. James and I have been talking but he think its something to do with the truck, he has never seen this before. Ive been looking at videos, reading threads to see if anyone has had the issue and come up with a fix.

Now I’m in this $2200 and have this low humming white noise sound that I hear over my Bluetooth calls and radio at low volume. Im pissed anyone able to help with suggestions.


Here is what we have done: let me know what I’ve missed:

⁃Gains all the way down, I can hear it
⁃ With the head unit off & volume off I can hear it
⁃ With the rca disconnected I hear it
⁃ Removing the remote wire and jumping it from hot on amp I hear it.
⁃ Picking up and holding amp hot/red amp wire away from everything and all wires I can hear it
⁃ Ground is to factory amp screw hole with paint removed sits on bare metal
- double checked ground with running a wire directly to battery
- Grounded wire from headunit to amp james idea
- Disconnected tech 12volt remote start
-Disconnecting one speaker wire at a time from amp no difference

 

Sorry for all the questions:

1. Is the noise thru all speakers?
Front door, rear door, dash speakers (if connected)?

2. How did you run the amp power line from the battery?
What route did you take driver's or passenger's side?
DO you have any speaker wires running close to/along side that amp power wire?

3. What gauge is your speaker and amp wire?
Is it copper or CCA (copper-clad aluminum) wire?
Who made the wire?

4. What kind of fuse (and what size) did you use between the battery and the amp?

5. Are the dash speakers connected to the HU, the amp, or connected at all?
I know you stated disconnecting 1 speaker at a time.
Did you try disconnection just the dash speakers?
If you disconnect (unplug at the speaker) both of the side dash speakers it will disconnect the center as well.

6. Did you run the new Bluetooth mic that came with the Kenwood?
That shouldn't be the problem since you had the issue before the new HU.

7. Did you remove/bypass the stock factory amp?

You know it's not the HU, or the amp.
Since you disconnected each speaker I'd guess they aren't the problem.

I'd guess something is grounded somewhere in the system.
Make sure all your crimped or soldered wire connections are tight and covered, with no stray wires sticking out.
If you used the AutoHarnessHouse amp adapter, triple check your wiring.
The different colors can make it all confusing..

1. Is the noise thru all speakers? Yes just door speakers, dash speakers are silent and just replaced them with new ones
Front door, rear door, dash speakers (if connected)?

2. How did you run the amp power line from the battery? Amp wire from battery on drive side to firewall to passanger side where it goes through the gromet to under passanger seat.
What route did you take driver's or passenger's side?
DO you have any speaker wires running close to/along side that amp power wire? I even lifted the power wire and suspended it from oh shit handle with no differnce still buzzing.

3. What gauge is your speaker and amp wire? 4 gauge wire kit was provided by tech12volt not 100% sure who made it didn't pay attention ill look what wire says this evening

4. What kind of fuse did you use between the battery and the amp? It came in the Kit, I will double check, I mounted the fuse to driver side fender between top of hood shock(when closed) and battery

5. Are the dash speakers connected to the HU, the amp, or connected at all? Dash Speakers are connect to HU (I upgraded them to Audiosfrog GS25) when i swapped out to new phonix amp, I will disconnect them later

Have you done anything else aftermarket electrical besides the audio? Definitely has the symptoms of a bad ground or dirty power, but not really sure how you'd go about tracking that down. Maybe start pulling fuses, but that sounds terrible lol

 

When you replaced the HU did you run RCA's to the amp and do away with the harness? If so then there has to be something in the harness connecting the door speakers to the amp. Did you sand down the paint good when hooking up the ground?

 

I had some crackling noise/white noise when I hooked up my system (also tech12volt) into a new Kenwood HU and 5 channel amp. I searched for a while at the amp and speakers, only to finally discover a ground wire behind the HU came apart and was not grounding correctly. I re-made that connection and it fixed the problem.

Just the stereo stuff.

It is interesting to me that this issue started with the new equipment and wiring.

Did James make the harness for the new amp for the underseat connections, or did you do it yourself using the AutoHarnessHouse adapter with the

So you can hear it the HU and amp off?

Did you run new speaker wire to the speakers or are you using OEM stock wiring?

Being you had the issue with the Entune and also with the RCAs unplugged with the Kenwood, I'd assume it has nothing to do with either HU.

 

Run a ground cable temporarily all the way to the battery ground and connect it to the amp and see if it still does it

 

He tried that, it is in the OP.

 

I have the tech12volt remote start, which i unplugged from OBDII and it still made noise, James also assured me that one has nothing to do with the other. I have power running to my leer top that is tied into my driver door locks has power from battery (Going to check that tonight)
I have NO idea how to chase any and all the grounds.

Yes i pulled new RCA from HU down center console to under passenger seat to amp. Yes i went down to bare metal in cab for the ground. agreed something in harness is grounding out.

 

Following this thread because of audio issues in my Tundra. Seems to be more tied into the use of bluetooth for spotify etc...etc...or if on calls.

Sometimes lose all audio and then when switching off bluetooth to CD or FM etc....still will not have sound. Until you turn truck off then back on which kind of reboots the system.

Have had the issue with both factory HU and now the Kenwood flush mount CD/Receiver.

Was described as possibly being from the factory amp shutting things down if it is not getting enough of a constant signal.

Have an appointment soon to try and bypass or eliminate the factory amp to help fix (fingers crossed) this issue.

 

I had issues with my factory HU and loss of connection etc. toyota replaced with a new/refurbrished lemon and on the 3 HU we figured all my issue started when i paired my wifes Apple ear pods, and it was searching for them, Once I removed them from my bluetooth list... problem solved.

 

A bit of shot in the dark, pull your harness connectors apart and make sure you don't have any bent or smashed pins in the male parts of the connectors...

And only the door speakers not the dash speakers?

 

What kind of rca's are you using?

With the stereo on, disconnect the rca's at the amp, is there still static?

 

Yes With the Key on position and i manually power down the HU to be off, i hear noise through the door speakers nothing from the dash.

 

Not sure one the brand they seemed nice they came for tech12v , Correct if i pull my RCA there is still noise.

 

I will double check.

 

Can you post a picture of the control knobs/switches you have on the amp?

If dash speakers are running via the HU and are good, while the door speakers are exhibiting a high noise floor, I would recheck your gain setting.

Try simply lowering it all the way and see if the noise reduces.

Sorry if I've missed something that has already been covered, this thread is getting a lot of attention. But from the quick read through, even with the speakers and HU not playing an over adjusted gain will raised the static noise that is present in the system.

I have tried that, on a JBL 5 channel and Phonix 5 channel same noise

 

If we assume a faulty component, what would be the most likely culripts? Head unit? Amp? Is there anything else that would explain how this noise is coming out of all of the newly installed speakers? Could all of the speakers be bad?

 

EMI on the door speaker wires?

run one new speaker cable to front door speaker and see if sound goes away on that speaker maybe

 

If OP tried two amps, I feel confident that would rule out the amp at least.

I know the Kenwoods have settings to adjust/boost the gain from the HU itself. Under the audio settings page there are options to increase the input volume from different soruces, also the sound effect page has loudness settings as well as room size, both can raise the noise floor.
