An epiphany hit me today. My tundra will pull a sequoia camper trailer. Roof tent, awning, kitchen, etc will be built into a gutted sequoia. Complete with frunk, lights, lockable doors...

In the past 72 hours I've

    • touched up and reinstalled my skid row oil pan skid.
    • put a coat of Meguiar's #7 followed by Griot's 3 in 1. Paint looks about as good as one could hope for a 19 year old truck.
    • removed my hard lines, and re-bled my master cylinder in a last ditch effort to fix my soft pedal. I thought I had it squared away a month or two ago but I didn't. Unfortunately, my pedal is now worse than ever. :rofl:My wife was like "aren't you about ready to give up on this". I can't help but laugh at this point. What an giant shit show this project has turned into. I'll report back after I try bleeding the system again. I will say that the first time I had my wife press the pedal last night, a bunch of air came out of the master cylinder.

My mc replacement went smooth as silk, but i let it gravity bleed a whole lot. Went through 2 bottles of fluid trying to find a bubble that didnt exist. But i started at the load sensing valve, then did the main bleeding. Its softer than a brand new car, but i like it. Got about an inch of ‘not much more than nothing’ but then it starts to grab. Really helps modulate when youre following tailgaters and brake riders.

Well, I threw a major kink into this when I did the big 14WA calipers. It's been a nightmare ever since. I'm at the point where I'm seriously considering going back down to 13WL's. It's gotten so annoying I don't even like driving my truck and the thought of selling it has crossed my mind.

Oof. I wish id known of the 14wa before doing mine, but if none of your fittings are juicy, you should be able to sort it out. Im running double pad springs and aside from the mc, my problem was grooved pins. The worn out pads were catching on grooves in the pins..

If you haven't already, you might tighten the rear star wheels a couple of clicks and adjust (outward) the LSPV rod a couple of turns. That will bias the brakes to the rear slightly and decrease the pedal travel and improve its feel.

I drove mine on jackstands to set the rear. Made sure both rears started to grab at the same time. Since the replacements, ive done alots of in and out with the ebrake. Also, have done a full two footed stander, and verified things get hard. My excuse is the fact that i fiddle with OD and can feel the drag. And its super happy right now. Loose tie rod end and all.

Adjusting the LSPV has done literally nothing for me. Hasn't helped a bit.

You have been dealing with brake issues forever.

I know, I should have quoted the previous person. I see that recommended a lot and I was just saying it hasn't helped me at all.

Yes. If I do anything at this point, I'll go back down a size to 13WL calipers. I found this post on TacoWorld. It's not about our trucks but I think he might be onto something in that last sentence.

So, I tried the one man brake bleeding method and I'm realizing that no matter which method I'm doing, the truck has to be running. How are you guys doing with with the truck off? After 2-3 pumps the booster locks up and you can't budge the pedal with the truck off.

How would you tow it? Like flat tow with one of these RV triangle things, or?

That’s weird. Last time I did the two man bleed by pumping it 3 times and holding it down with force on the pedal while counting out loud; bleeder then slowly opens the valve and I let them know when it gets down to the floor so they can close it. Rinse and repeat 3 times to insure all the air bubbles are out and then move to the next wheel and do it over again.

I don’t recall the truck being on at all.

Yeah that makes it sound like an issue as I’ve never had the vehicle running to bleed brakes.

To be fair, I didn't try that method. I cracked open the bleeder valve and then walked over and pushed the pedal. It doesn't matter though. I had my wife help me bleed them just now and it didn't help. Fuck this truck. I'm about to park it under a dead tree during a thunderstorm.

It'll absolutely suck air in when you lift the pedal if the bleeder is still open.

Yeah can’t bleed that way. Also make sure to just open the bleeder enough to allow fluid out, too much and you open it up to air and you need positive out flowing pressure when you close the bleeder or like said above it will suck air back in and defeat your bleeding attempt

Finally pulled the trigger on pulling my rear end.
I took it to a shop twice and it's still got a whine above 50mph. I decided if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself.

This was the pattern I had before I pulled everything apart. It's a little toed in.

The backlash was really tight. Only 3 thousandths while the Toyota FSM calls for about 5.1-7.1 thousandths. I have new oem pinion bearings I'm going to install. My old ones that were supposed to have been replaced were a little rough and definitely not new.

They said they replaced all the bearings, but all were worn OEM ones except for one. The threads on the pinion for the pinion nut are hammered for being a new pinion gear, I'm worried I won't be able to get the new nut threaded on it.

Hmm. I’d definitely be finding a new shop and asking for some money back if they charged you for a bearing that wasn’t replaced unless I’m misunderstanding you.

What way? Maybe I'm not explaining it right. How else do you one-person bleed? I'm doing exactly what I watched online.

But again, I didnt end up doing that. I had my wife assist and I bled the whole thing. I got a bunch of air bubbles out but it ultimately didn't help. I'll have to try something else next.
