It’s nice to have those skills since a Toyota Service Manager once told me to fix a squeak in my dash, his guys could tear a dash apart to fix it but it would never go back together correctly.

Just start taking out every screw and 10mm you can find. It comes out with relative ease.

Realistically there are fasteners behind the glove box, radio, knee bolster and console (if you have one). I would also suggest removing the steering column shroud and A-pillars.

After that, it’s just clips and a balancing act. Also helps to have 4 hands.

Thanks. As usual, I ran into a different obstacle and will continue rocking the hand held for the foreseeable future.

I used an adapter harness to grab power/ground/etc at the dash for my radio (toyota 86 also).

I bought an adapter harness that fit the OEM amp and ran 14ga wires back to the OEM amp plugs, along the center console hump to under my rear pass seat, to bypass the amp and use the onboard 86 amp.

You could also buy crutchfields harness for the 05/06 access cab. They seem to be the only one that carries the correct one. https://www.crutchfield.com/S-Pl6VHSXKU6q/p_120708121/Metra-70-8121-Amp-Bypass-Harness.html

    Here's the part #'s I saved.
    70-8113 radio
    70-8121 amp bypass

These may fit but have to be extended. I bought the ty3 and extended it.

    AXABH-TY4
    AX-AB-LX3
    AXABH-LX3

Totally worth the effort. The OEM amp is anemic at best, stock speakers and the 86 radio onboard amp is a huge difference.

    @FirstGenVol

I worked in this area of the plant during 1st gen production. I hope this boosts your confidence. The 1st gen Tundra instrument panel was not a modular unit. Meaning, it was assembled inside the truck. The assembly sequence went something like this, start to finish: A/B ECU; main wire harness to cowl(firewall); parking brake, AC, htr blower; brake pedal; IP reinforcement (large round bar supporting weight).

There were very few parts attached to the IP skin(dash) before the skin was installed into the truck. This makes partial dis-assembly easier than the subsequent generations that were modular units. The passenger airbag, speakers, and a few misc parts were assembled to the skin before it was installed, but not much else. Removing lower console, lower IP, etc, then the skin and the rest is pretty straight forward.

So, you should be able to dis-assemble it as far as you need and then stop.

Get the ones for the double cab and they will fit the double cab.

You'd have to check the difference between 04 and 05/06 headlights, but I thought it was just the extra little marker light. Also the 04 sequoia might be the same headlight. I have an 06 so it's not something I've had to worry about.

So I know this is going to be incredibly vague and like a total shot in the dark but I’ve had a few drinks and I’m gonna ask anyways.

What kind of bolt on, resonator back, exhausts were available for our trucks?

Reason being is that the parts truck had this exhaust on it that I just couldn’t bring myself to not keep. There are no markings, the muffler seems stainless, the tips are black and it honestly sounds really good.

I’ll snap some pics tomorrow and maybe this will be easier to diagnose.
