Needing advice starting 2006 tundra Build

Okay I got stuck badly over the weekend on the last snowbank by the ranch I work at from time to time. Going to be buying lots of stuff this week for the truck since I'm pretty pissed off at being stuck for almost three hours in a foot and a half of snow lol.

 

I even almost got stuck in the snow this season in my 1st gen. Without my rear locker I would not have gotten out. I'd start with good tires and a rear locker to get through snow if that's your main goal right now.

 

Snows pretty much all gone here I unfortunately hit the one uphill patch on the entire mountain and sunk it into the side of the road trying to make it uphill. I've been lacking on actually buying parts, but by tomorrow I Should more than likely have some stuff ordered. I would expect the load range C to have something to do with it. Thinner/softer sidewalls.

 

I would check out Stealth Custom Series for wheels. Love my Ray10s and I put them on my girlfriends 4Runner and she loves them as well. I liked the offset better compared to the Methods and the looks of them.

It might. I am thinking about replacing at least two of my tires so I have some freshies and 2 complete spares. I might be thinking about load range e.

 

Hit Vinn up, he has "blemished" stock as well, also if you follow them on instagram they post when stock will be available. Vinn is very picky about the blemished wheels, I really had to look at each one of mine to find the issue and they definitely were nothing most people would even notice.

I have the E and aired down I have never had issues with the KO2's in any terrain.

 

Hey does anyone know if Accutune sells the king 2.5's with the extended travel or is it just regular travel, and is it worth the hassle of going somewhere else to get the extended travel?

 

Best I can tell from the listing accutunes are standard travel. It’s more than likely gonna be await for kings.

Filthy motor sports has the option for extended travel and control arms if you wanna buy all at once.

I had good luck getting my ADS coilovers from headstrong off-road

If you wanted to man you could look at Fox coil overs. Those guys running fox shocks have found a fix using Tacoma parts to fix the brake line rubbing issues.

 

Honestly if I have to wait a few months to even see a fulfilled order i might just do that, as far as the fox's go how does one go about the Tacoma parts? Do the companies selling them just do the mod for you now?

Post 15-22 has the info and necessary parts, but they’re emailing fox and requesting the Tacoma parts. Linked so I wouldn’t screw the part numbers and stuff lol.

Bought a baja designs light harness splitter second hand for cheap to cut up, and see how they stripped the wires back.

Looks like they use @FrenchToasty's muyi connectors which is good news.



Looks to me like they halfed the 14 AWG wire, and crimped a brass terminal over the joint.

Heat shrink over the crimp. I don't know about it. What do you guys think? Crimp or solder for this? Crimp is certainly easier, but I don't have any kind of Crimp terminals like that.

 

I've been taught/raised to always use crimps in a car/truck.
Solder is prone to cracking when subjected to vibration. And cars/trucks vibrate. A lot.

Much better than add-a-leafs and I wouldn't even consider a block. Get those and ICON ext travel coils (700 lb spring if Double cab) and some Camburg uppers and you are set.

So I think I've hit a rather inconvenient road block, Suspension. Anyone have a source for buying a pair of fox or king coilovers? Ill take used and abused at this point.

Update: I found one shop that can get me a pair of fox 2.5's extended with reservoirs for 1500 shipped, any reason not to do this besides brake line issue?

 

My only question for you would be why are you set on Fox or King? How do you plan to offroad with your truck?

 

Have you ever made the run up to Boulder City? I've wondered how a slightly lifted/modded 1st Gen would do?

 

I've had digressive suspension for other vehicles, not a big fan. I just received the fox's in the mail getting them installed with diff drop and uca's for 660 with an alignment from bucks 4x4 in garden city Idaho.

 

I've been in Idaho for a year now and basically work 7 days a week. Hopefully in the next few weeks I'll be able to go wheel around up there and will let you know. Ill ask the guys at the shop if they know much about it as well.
