FOX 2.5 with external reservoir

So these followed me home today... I swear!

They're going in for a full-service rebuild and cleaning.

They are the older version and there was an update that they released with using their Tacoma bottoms to keep from hitting the brake lines.

I already emailed Fox as soon as I got home with them just waiting on a reply.

Info here: Just wanted to know if you guys had any experience with them and reviews.

Its strange how much thread is above the coil nut. On mine, which are probably the same age, I barely have room to back that nut off and I have 2" of lift. Do the coils have a number on them? Mine are 650lbs I wonder if those are 600lbs and that might make sense. Maybe just another strange variance, Fox seemed to put this model together carelessly and made small changes here and there over the years.

From the scars around the lower coil I see these have a brake line or two under their belt. Bury them and never speak of them again.

 

I’m just Hand Model and really wanted to say this this morning (this this is a hard double combo to use). You are a really cool suspension guy and I feel like maybe I’m reaching a new level seeing how we are on the same page. I’ll sleep good tonight and give myself a Feather Duster Award.

I’m hoping someone can enter into used parts purchase rehab and get some help. We may need an intervention here guys. We’ll do this with Love.

Thats the kind of furniture I would have if my wife had no say in the matter.

 

There was a dude in an art class I took awhile back that made a rocking bench using Bronco coils. The back supports were either wood or metal and in the front the coils suspended the bench. It was functional and looked cool as heck.

 

A friend of mine made a pair of chairs like that for his porch. They're sweet.

 

OK guys, been MIA but what did I miss?

Were these a good buy or not?

I figured they would be better after rebuild than my 5100's on Eibach 650 springs.

These are 2.5 with 700 lbs springs I think.

Talking with FOX right now for the brake line fix with the spring retainers 05-On Tacomas.
PN 234-00-383 and to verify what these are.

Haven't found a part number yet on these though.

 

Thats good info. Looks like @toyotech2016 found out about that retainer and used it. I'm not really sure if that would fit but I'll definitely measure to find out. Much like his experience my banjos are getting smacked and slowly leaking fluid. I bet they loosened up like his did.

Those may need to be uncranked. Alot. So much thread showing on the top. Looks like a lot of tension on that spring, probably for more lift. Probably unnecessary. Hard to know if it's a good buy yet or not. Depends on how much you paid and whether you get them working in your rig or not. They are a nice piece of kit.

 

Thanks for the clarification, yeah I wasn't really worried since I basically bought it with rebuilding in mind.

Still waiting for a word back from FOX and then I'll have them done.

 

I picked up some brake lines from Sean pistol. I think they were originally from Solo motorsports. Would these help with the clearance issues? I think they were just like the ones in this suspension gallery. I'll post pics tomorrow.

Hopefully, someone can chime in, I got SS brake lines and the 14WA big brake upgrade going in with this.
So I'm not really worried about it.
It's just to post more info on here for people to use as reference and since it's getting rebuilt might as well fix any flaws with it too.

But in other threads told me to get these banjo bolts to fix the issue.

You only need the bolts but this set was like $5 at the time, So I just got them anyway since they're so cheap, and its better to have them on hand than not.

 

Mine is the same way on my 07. A lot of thread left, but it s level the way it sits now. I could raise up the front higher than the rear. Thats the trend for the youngsters although it s kind of hokey.

 

UPDATE: 4/30/21

So been sick and MIA in bed because of it (Not COVID related LOL!) but I got the lower replacements today.

So long story short you have to email the service department in order to get the replacement, if you email sales they will charge you.

Explain the situation and pictures of your suspension hitting the brake line and then ask for part number #234-00-239-A for the Tacoma.

Then they will ask you to fill out the service request form with some pictures and send them your service number.

It will ask you to send your suspension to them but in the email just tell them you want the parts and are getting it serviced locally at one of their authorized dealers to save shipping.

But you will have to enter CC info on the form but they won't charge you other than $1 to confirm the card.

Then they will send it out to you, I got mine in 2 days.

Hope this all helps and I'll update more when I get the shocks back from the shop.

 

Dude thats great to hear. I'm gonna email them too. My calipers developed a really slow leak from the banjo bolts getting smacked around. Thats exciting.

Only complaint would be that they took a few days between responses to emails.

Got them back today, freshly rebuilt and with new Tacoma bottoms.

They look great so far but height settings were kept until install.

I'm still getting things done, slowly but surely so stay tuned!

 

I asked them what they can do about my brake lines getting smacked and my tires chewing through the reservoir hoses. They said they were reviewing and never responded to follow ups. That was maybe 2012 or 2013, hopefully they forgot.

Just sent them a polite email asking for the parts, fingers crossed.

Edit- they just replied saying this happens when aftermarket control arms and/or tie rods are used. Strange response, fingers still crossed.

You still have a lot of threads showing. I'm curious why and curious if your nose will point to the moon when you install those. Get them on!

 

Yeah, i'm trying to get my squat on!

I have taller rear leafs going on too but the rebuild shop said that they were fine and to adjust them when installing.

We'll see it'll all be done in a few months. Regear, supercharger, and paint is lined up.

 

Sounds good. Just for reference mine hardly have any thread up top, I'm a little worried about if I will be able to get the same height with the new lower mounts. I'm trying to keep the arms as flat as possible.

Side note, their website still says to use this model (the one ending in 420 ) with aftermarket uppers. Strange to associate the problem with their own recommendation.
