What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

You know after seeing this, I wouldn't be surprised if that's how most of the moisture is getting into my tank nowadays from that gnarly, rusty gasket which is probably worse on my tundra. Seems like I'm always adding some heet every few months and the truck generally runs rougher after a rain storm. Great job, PHM!

 

Thanks. I read a review of one guy with 70k on his Tundra which was throwing codes. He did a ton of work fixing parts to clear the code to no avail. Ended up being his Gasket was gnar gnar.

I really filed and cleaned it up as best as possible. The FIPG on Gasket should hold her into the future. Had to fill in those gaps with something.

Did a oil change after I got off work, that fumoto valve is handy randy! Greased all my joints, including UBJs, and I got super lucky, all my drive shaft zerks were aiming right down at me!!! I was digging thru the neighbors recycle to make sure they were compliant with the new non recyclable addendum. Found a sweet ramp so my frame wouldn’t get all oily when I pulled the filter!

About to order a master cylinder. Aside from oem has anyone used c-tek, raybestos, or buck arnley?

I usually have to throw the “good stuff” in the neighbors can or the alley can............because........my mom digs thru mine!!!!! Then I find shit I threw away back at my house or over at hers!!! I even went as far as throwing Festivus decorations away at my kids school......she found those too!!!!!

Was it you who said you used some sand paper to get some lines going on the dip stick to make it read easier after a oil change? It’s like I filled it with water, can barely see it! I used my money makers and started to poke the dip stick above the high dot until it came up with a dab on my finger, just below the high dot.

 

Yeah. I never did it, but I saw someone recco cutting some hash lines on the stick for better readings.

 

The one I installed a few months ago is Raybestos from Rock Auto. No issues with it yet but I haven't had it long.

 

Well done sir! I've been waiting in anticipation for you to do this! Might message you with some questions, because I am very close to doing this job myself (Denso pump is on backorder but gaskets, etc. arrived). Any pointers for the task? Can't find that evap canister gasket part number, your tank looks different than the diagrams, but that super clean RTV job is tempting if my gasket is bad.

When I towed my truck away from the shop that quoted me $2K for this job, they made up some B.S. about the sender unit absolutely needing to get replaced and that's why their price was so high. It made me scared since I am not replacing that, but I still didn't believe them.

 

Technically it did serve a second/better purpose, better than most. Maybe I could even tri-cycle it, and use it to light my smudge pot(I don’t own a smudge pot......yet)

 

Thanks. I just looked for that Evap Gasket and I think its part of the tank which is probably why it didn’t come off. I’d just FIPG it if I was you.

When handling the Pump Assy be careful with it. Try to keep it flat without too much moving it. Its easy to bend or break one of those fine delicate arms or wires if not careful. I taped the Float Arm to the main body to keep it from rebounding back and forth when turning the Full Assy around to work the Unit. Just take your time and it will be fine.

Most of my time was clean up using wire brushes, blowers, and micro fibers towels before during and after pulling the unit out. You’ll want to keep things as clean as possible to prevent debris from going down inside. Some stuff slipped by and dropped out in when I was filing. Next time I’d use a cardboard rectangle and tape it up inside the tank and throw a microfiber on it to catch the fine dust. I figure the filter will catch that little stuff that went down today. You just don’t want chunks of dirt and little rocks dow in there like was on mine when it was pulled out.

That little clip on the bottom of the Pump is testy to install because its so small. I’d FIPG the screw/bolts next time if I could do it over again. The washers are split and maybe why the water intruded. I FIPG’d both sides of the Gasket matings and some did come up the holes, but I could have loaded up the split washer more once the Threading started.


Other than that its easy stuff.

 

After further review, you are right. Also, I went back and saw the Pizza was a Triple Meat Lovers which is another .75 deduction.

Windshield wiper arms were not coming all the way down and started to hit the side of the pillar. Tried to Loosen the bolts and readjust. The I applied to much force and something broke .

wipers won’t move now. Going to figure it out in the morning.

 

FWIW, VW Vanagon gas tanks get all stinky and need to be re-gasketed at about 20 years (so just under 10 years ago for my 1990). Seeing some FGTs ready for a reseal in 2021 appears to be a similar timeline.

Our 460 makes me want quieter tires. I haven't done the front floor or the roof yet, but I've done sound deadening about everywhere else on my truck. With quieter tires, a little more deadening, and wheel well liners, my truck could be gx460 quiet. At least road noise wise. My exhaust and intake are louder than the stock gx setup.

 

So technically eating the animals is a reduction in methane right? That seems dependent on the end users exhaust setup though. I'd have to math it, but my gut says it's a wash.

 

I saved my packaging from last night's impossible burger to use next oil change. Doing my part, no pizza box here. Whirrled peas.

 

The nissan titan has an even worse oil filter to cross member arrangements. I think it pours right onto a sway bar bracket that's shaped like a "U" and catches the oil. I adopted the method of using aluminum foil to make a little aluminum land bridge over frame bits so it would drain into the pan. Not sure a piece of cardboard would have worked for that one. Seems good enough for the slightly better toyota design though.

 

Yes it probably does wash out, but at least I feel better about not eating friends and the other best part is it makes me feel virtuous. I do have lots of extra flatulence, too. My flatulence smells better now than when eating meat so the extra flatulence I now have is an offset I can be happy about. Win win.

 

I'm going to use an actual penguin to catch my oil next time. Just to offset whirled peas.

If I could go without meat, I'd do it. More just because it would be great to grow everything I eat. Sadly, without meat I'd likely just gain back the 20lbs I just lost. So many carbs in everything tasty. I try to minimize that stuff unless I'm hiking or doing something pretty physical.

 

Just don't use a duck. I think it just runs off their backs.

 

Well stop doing less outside and breathing all that extra air our friends need to survive. Our plants depend on them you know. They need oxygen too!

 

Plus they're harder to catch. Little bastards just fly away. Then that damn dog laughs at you. Oh wait, that's something else. Nevermind.

@speedtre This is my top priority when comes buying local. There are obvious health benefits and it seems to be harder to control people who feed themselves.

took advantage of some rain we got and marked the low level where the pond side is just trickling into the pump side. (Plus an inch or so).
I know it doesnt have anything to do with my tundra, but this is the thread it came up in.

this is just my template. 12mm thick liner will be stretched and trimmed.
